Ina T. Bowles

MOCKSVILLE — Ina T. Bowles, 77, McClamrock Road, died Thursday (Dec. 6, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born Aug. 28, 1924, in Davie County, Mrs. Bowles, a daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Comer Smith Tutterow, was a homemaker. She was a member of Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Lester M. Bowles; sons Ed Bowles, Salisbury, and Bill Bowles, Mocksville; daughter Kay Caudle, Mocksville; brothers the Rev. Grady Tutterow, Mocksville, and Glenn Tutterow, Greensboro; sisters Ruth Tutterow, Greensboro, and Mary C. Parker,Mississippi; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Hope Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Clyde Phillips and the Rev. Aaron Carter. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Oak Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Eaton Funeral Service.

Harvey Lee Byrd

DAVIDSON — The funeral will be Sunday for Harvey Lee Byrd, 75, 5951 Vinewood Road, who died Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2001) at W.G. “Bill”Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury.

Born Dec. 20, 1925, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Byrd, a son of the late John Henry and Carrie Howie Byrd, served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He formerly attended Kirkwood Presbyterian Church. Retired, he had worked at several area textile plants, operated a sawmill and was formerly employed with Davis Enterprises in Salisbury.

Wife Betty Smith Byrd died March 5, 1999.

Survivors include son Jeffrey Byrd, of the home; sister Ruth Byrd, Kannapolis; and brother Paul Byrd, Mooresville.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Lady’s FuneralHome chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Randy Wall. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Vinewood Road.

 

Ethel M. Chrisley

LEXINGTON — Ethel June McGraw Chrisley, 83, Cow Palace Road, died Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2001).

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel. Burial, 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery, near Pulaski,Va.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

 

Edna W. Eagle

The funeral was this morning for Edna Wyatt Woodie Eagle, 89, Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home, who died Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 6, 1912, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Eagle was a daughter of the late Lonnie and Myra Wyatt Wyatt. She was educated in the Wilkes County schools. A former winder tender at Corriher Mills, she was a Baptist.

Husband Arnold Woodie died in 1954, and son Ralph Woodie died in 1986.

Survivors include sisters Bonnie Holland, Gettysburg, Pa., and Anna Lee Williams, Lancaster, S.C.; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 this morning, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt. Burial, Westlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 10-11 this morning at the funeral home.

Ruby Otis Faison

The funeral will be Sunday for Ruby Otis Faison, 80, Salisbury, who died Thursday (Dec. 6, 2001) at her home after an extended illness.

Born Nov. 26, 1921, in Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Faison was a daughter of the late Harry Milan and Anna Mae Ellis Otis. She was educated in the Buffalo, N.Y., schools and attended a business school in Buffalo.

During World War II, she was a petty officer in the U.S. Navy. She was a homemaker and a cafeteria worker at West Rowan High School.

A member of First United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Daisy Hedrick Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342 and the YMCAY-Wonders.

Husband Ernest Garland “E.G.” Faison Jr. died July 31, 1992.

Survivors include son E.Garland Faison III, Charlotte; daughters Barbara F. Couch, Durham, Elizabeth F. Clark, Nashville, Tenn., and Carol Faison-Cook, Salisbury; sister Dorothy June Bloom, Clearfield,Pa.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Thomas L. Griffis, senior pastor,First United Methodist Church. Entombment, Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum. Military rites by Rowan Veterans Council.

Visitation: 3:30-6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Wincie Hogan Greene

ALBEMARLE — Wincie Odessa Hogan Greene, 73, 730 Corbin St., died Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2001) at her home.

Born May 1, 1928, in Troy, Mrs. Greene was a daughter of Bertha Kelly Hogan, Asheboro, and the late Earl G. Hogan. She retired as a winder from Wiscassett Mills and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Her husband,Floyd AllenGreene, died in 1988.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include sons Ronald Dale and Bobby R. Greene, both of Albemarle; daughters Brenda G. Cole, Albemarle, Theresa G. Efird, New London, and Elizabeth G. Morton, Troy; brothers Roy Hogan, Troy, and Lester Hogan, Mocksville; sisters Betty Stewart, Sanford, and Mildred Allred, Cedar Falls; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. MarkMedlin. Burial,Norview Gardens, Norwood.

Visitation: The family will be at the home on Corbin Street.

 

Nettie Hipps

Nettie Hipps, 81, 2857 Hollywood Drive, died Thursday (Dec. 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Sarah C. Hosch

CLEVELAND — The funeral will be Sunday for Sarah Francis Campbell Hosch, 77, 3475 Chenault Road, who died Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Oct. 2, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Hosch was a daughter of the late Claude Campbell and Fannie Elizabeth Lytle Campbell Morrison. She graduated from the Rowan County schools and was a retired employee of Cannon Mills.

A member and elder of Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, she was a member of the Usher Board, Senior Choir, United Presbyterian Women, the Trustee Board and the Building Fund committee.

Survivors include sons Johnny Bernard Hosch, Norfolk, Va., Roy Lee Hosch, East Point, Ga., Claude Hosch, Oxford, Rodney Campbell, Ricky Eugene and Billy Hosch and Robert Lee Hosch Jr., all of Cleveland, and Giles Adair Hosch, Salisbury; daughters Bernadine Jones, Mattapan, Mass., and Kathleen Amos, Cleveland; stepdaughter Inita Robinson Gaither, Mocksville; sisters Elsie Mae Morrison, Nannie Morrison Bost and Rosa Morrison Chisholm, all of Baltimore, Md.; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Linda Lampkin Parker. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Doris N. Knight

LEXINGTON — No funeral services will be held for Doris Nones Knight, 81, formerly of Warrenton,Va., who died Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2001) at Brian Center Nursing Home after several years of declining health.

Davidson Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Mary Jane Knox

CLEVELAND — Mary Jane Knox, 101, 3685 Woodleaf Barber Road, died Thursday (Dec. 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

She was born Sept. 13, 1900.

Jeanne Lamar

LEXINGTON — Alma Jeanne Hodge Lamar, 68, formerly of Plant City, Fla., died Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2001) at Lexington Health Care after two years of declining health.

Services:11 a.m. Saturday, Davidson Funeral Home chapel. Entombment, Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of son MichaelPruett, 144 Freewill Circle.

 

Hazel Davis Leonard

GOLD HILL — The funeral will be Saturday for Hazel Davis Leonard, 81, Gold Hill, who died Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2001) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Born Sept. 9, 1920, in Rowan County, Mrs. Leonard was a daughter of the late John Edgar and Nannie Rodgers Davis. She was educated in Rowan County schools and a graduate of Farm Life School.

A member of Zion United Methodist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer for many years and a member of the United Methodist Women. She retired from Carolina Maid, Granite Quarry.

Her first husband, Burley Treece, died Feb. 11, 1967, and her second husband, Theodore Leonard, died Jan. 13, 1997.

Survivors include daughter Sue Stiller, Richfield; stepson Ted Leonard,Rockwell; stepdaughter Gail Vanhoy, Gold Hill; brothers Clifford and Ralph Davis, both of Salisbury; and two grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Zion United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dale Bost, pastor, and the Rev. Johnny Daniel, pastor,East Corinth Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: Church fellowship hall after the service.

The funeral will be Sunday for Bernice Thirdgill Patterson, 73, 1123 Crestview Drive, who died Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, First Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Leamon Brown. Burial will be Monday.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
