Luvinia Boyd McCullough, 78, 604 Willow Road, died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center following an illness of several days.

Mildred Deal Arthurs

CHINA GROVE — Mildred Deal Arthurs, 90, 208 Ross St., died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at The Meadows, Rockwell.

Born Oct. 16, 1911, in China Grove, Mrs. Arthurs was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Malinda File Deal.

Educated in Rowan County, she retired from Cannon Mills and was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Margaret Weldon Sunday School Class.

Husband Roy Leonard Arthurs died Dec. 11, 2000.

Survivors include daughters Jean A. McCluney and Phyllis A. Heilig, both of China Grove; brother Paul Deal, China Grove; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. James Faggart. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park. An online memorial has been opened at www.linnhoneycutt.com .

Jessie Mae Bradford

CLEVELAND — Jessie Mae Bradford, 73, Cleveland, died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.

Lila Mae Hancock

COOLEEMEE — Lila Mae Howerton Hancock, 90, Cooleemee, died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.

Daughter of the late John and Mary Taylor Howerton, Mrs. Hancock was a member of First Baptist Church of Cooleemee. She had been employed as a cotton textile worker.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Alfred Owens Wagner, Kelly L. Cope and James Hancock.

Survivors include daughters Jean Baggett, Colonial Heights, Va., and Sue Steele-Correll, Cooleemee; and son Harold A. Wagner, Lexington.

Services: A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Wilma Jean Poole

GRANITE QUARRY — Wilma Jean Poole, 64, 734 N. Main St., died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born June 16, 1937, in Mount Ridge, Kan., Mrs. Poole was a daughter of Ellen Bell Berno, Topeka, Kan., and the late James Berno.

Educated in the Topeka, Kan., schools, she was a homemaker.

In addition to her mother, survivors include husband Clyde C. Poole; sons Tim Poole, Granite Quarry, and James A. Poole, Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter Barbara Poole Weaver, Granite Quarry; sisters Patricia Wells and Kay Rucker, both of Topeka, Kan., and Judy Schantz, Linden; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside service, 1 p.m. Tuesday, U.S. National Cemetery, Statesville Boulevard annex.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight and 12:30-1 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home.

Mary Hagler Talbert

SPENCER — Mary Lee Hagler Talbert of Spencer died Saturday (Dec. 1, 2001) at her home. She had been in declining health.

Born Aug. 18, 1918, in Davidson County, Mrs. Talbert was a daughter of the late Zula Elizabeth and C. Craig Hagler Sr.

Educated in the Cabarrus County Schools, she retired from Cannon Mills’ Swink Plant (No. 16) and was a homemaker and member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Salisbury.

Husband James William Talbert died April 17, 1967. A great-grandchild also preceded her in death.

Survivors include son Jerry O. Talbert Sr., Spencer; brother C. Craig Hagler Jr., Concord; sister Marie Pless, Rockwell; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside service, 3 p.m. Tuesday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Mark Brown, pastor, Tabernacle Baptist Church, and the Rev. Tony Fox, pastor, Rogers Park Baptist Church, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of son Jerry Talbert, Spencer.
