Albert G. Davis

MOORESVILLE — Albert Gene Davis, 70, Seneca Place, died Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at his residence.

Born Dec. 12, 1930, in Kannapolis, he was a son of the late J.T. and Sarah McWhorter Davis.

Mr. Davis graduated from Cannon High in 1948. He worked as a machinist at Cannon Mills from 1948-50, was a U.S. pilot from 1950-53 and worked for the N.C. Highway Patrol as a radio engineer.

He later worked for Western Electric from 1956-83, and from 1972 to the present, he owned Music and Electronics of Mooresville.

Mr. Davis belonged to Derita Baptist Church, Charlotte.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Flowers Davis, whom he married in December 1957; sons Mike Davis, Statesville, and Todd Davis, Mooresville; brother Charles Davis, Kannapolis; sister Phyllis Eaves, Fredericksburg, Va.; and four grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Harrison.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Whitaker Goodnight

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Sunday for Whitaker Belk Goodnight, 86, 1930 Brown Road, who died Thursday (Nov. 29, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born July 23, 1915, in Iredell County, she was daughter of the late Hugh Clarence and Ira Goodnight Belk. Mrs. Goodnight was educated in Iredell County Schools and was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College.

She was formerly employed as a school teacher and belonged to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.

Her husband, Henry Lamont Goodnight, died March 31, 2001.

Survivors include sons Cecil Goodnight, Raleigh, and David Goodnight, Denver; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Paul Pickler. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, and the remainder of the time at the home on Brown Road.

Rosa Huffman

LANDIS — Rosa Lee Crisp Huffman, 94, formerly of 410 W. Ryder Ave., died Thursday (Nov. 29, 2001) at Liberty Commons Nursing Center in Wilmington.

Born March 18, 1907, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Joe Crisp and Sally Crisp Honeycutt. Mrs. Huffman was educated in Iredell County Schools and retired from Linn Mills in Landis. She belonged to Landis Baptist Church.

Her husband, Ray Albert Huffman, died Nov. 4, 1990.

Survivors include son Kenneth Ray Huffman, Salisbury; daughters Hilda Cross, Wilmington, and Audry Edwards, Rome, Ga.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Landis Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis.

Thomas G. Lee

Thomas Glenn Lee, 54, Salisbury, died Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at his residence.

Billie L. Nielson

LEXINGTON — Billie Louise Nielson, 62, Happy Hill Road, died Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at her home after an illness of six months.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Sunday, Shiloh United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 5-7 tonight at the home of her sister, Betty Rose Ridenhour, 3089 Happy Hill Road.

Gavin A. Pupp

MOORESVILLE — Gavin Alec Pupp, 2 12 months, 651 E. Iredell Ave., died Thursday (Nov. 29, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 10, 2001, in Iredell County, he was a son of Michael Ellenburg and Brittney Pupp, both of Mooresville.

Survivors include grandparents Danny and Jan Ellenburg, Mooresville, Terry Pupp, Mooresville; great-grandmother Juanita Blackwelder, Mooresville; great-grandparents Bob and Faye Ellenburg, Cleveland, and Vernon and Delores Pupp, Los Angeles, Calif.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Neill Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bill Lynch and the Rev. Marion Fulk. Burial, Centenary United Methodist Church cemetery.

 

Jim Rogers

RICHFIELD — James Carroll “Jim” Rogers, 68, 21712 Rogers Road, died Thursday (Nov. 29, 2001) at his home.

Born April 7, 1933, in Stanly County, he was son of the late Minnie Hazeline Plyler Rogers and James Alexander Rogers.

Mr. Rogers was retired from the maintenance department at Pfeiffer College after 34 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a lifelong member of New Bethel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include wife Bettie Louise Misenheimer Rogers; son Warren James Rogers, Oakboro; daughter Myra Louise Long, Granite Falls; sister Barbara Rhyne, Raleigh; and five grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. today, New Bethel Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Reichley, former pastor; burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: The family will be at the home, 21712 Rogers Road.

Elvis D. Schooler

MOCKSVILLE — Elvis D. Schooler, 80, Lakeview Road, died Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a short illness.

Born March 13, 1921, in Hamilton County, Texas, he was a son of the late Reecie Florence Sayles and William Henry Schooler.

Mr. Schooler worked as a public accountant in Long Beach, Calif., for 38 years before moving to Mocksville in 1990, when he retired.

He was a member of Mocksville First Baptist Church and Elks Lodge No. 888 in Long Beach. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Genalee Henderson Schooler; sons Richard Schooler, Mocksville, and Stephen Douglas Schooler, Cypress, Calif.; brother Bill Schooler, O’Donnell, Texas; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: A private graveside service will be held Monday at Rose Cemetery, conducted by Dr. Van Lankford.

Visitation: 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Eaton Funeral Home.

Memorials: Library of Mocksville Elementary School, in memory of Elizabeth Schooler, 295 Cemetery St., Mocksville, NC, 27028.

 

August H. Williams

KANNAPOLIS — August Henry Williams, 84, 1004 Brantley Road, died Friday (Nov. 30, 2001).
