SALISBURY POST

As a parent of a Salisbury High School student, I was appalled at what greeted me when I went to the Friday night football game at East Rowan.

East has a large boulder out in front of their school and it had been painted, big and bold, with the words “—— go home” (the blank is for the student’s name). As if that wasn’t bad enough, when we entered the stadium and sat in the visitors section, what did my eyes see? A huge banner taped high in the stands on the East Rowan side that read “Momma’s boy ——,” along with some other things written that I could not make out due to the distance of the football field.

The student this was directed at happens to play for the Hornets of Salisbury High. He is a former East Rowan student, there on a transfer. His family lives in the Salisbury High district and he chose to come to his “home” school this year. Irregardless of how people feel about that decision or this student, this was a blatant sign of disrespect and poor sportsmanship. Iwould hope that all kids would be taught better than to behave like this and get away with it.

Iam shocked that coaches and especially the administration would allow such behavior. They are supposed to set an example for our students. How would any of you feel if such a thing happened to your son or daughter? I dare say you wouldn’t like it one bit; I know I wouldn’t if it were my child.
