The article by Brad Hodges on school transfers that appeared in the Post on Aug. 23 needs clarification.
From information supplied to him by Rowan-Salisbury Schools, Mr. Hodges correctly noted that, since the 1998-99 school year, 53 students transferred out of Salisbury High School. However, Mr. Hodges wrote, “Salisbury High School granted permission to 53 to students to attend elsewhere.” That statement is incorrect.
After a search of transfer files for the years 1998-99 through 2001-02, personnel from Rowan-Salisbury Schools produced only nine documents that indicated approval by me for a student to transfer away from Salisbury High School. Forty-four students were “granted permission” to attend elsewhere by a higher authority than the principal of Salisbury High School.
