ALBEMARLE —Faith Lee Rinehart Burris, 86, 32146 N.C. 740 Hwy., died Saturday (Aug. 25, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont Nursing Center.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

 

Avril Sink Byerly

LEXINGTON —Avril Mae Sink Byerly, 70, Lexington, died Saturday (Aug. 25, 2001) at Golden Age Inc.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday Pilgrim Reformed United Church of Christ.

Visitation: At the church after the service.

Colleen Rose Correll

MOORESVILLE — Colleen Rose Correll, 44, Barber Loop, died Sunday (Aug. 26, 2001) at her home.

Born Feb. 22, 1957, in Concord, Mrs. Correll was a daughter of Bobby Lee Correll, Kannapolis, and the late Priscilla Drolette Correll. She worked as an associate in the Lawn and Garden department at Lowe’s Home Improvement and was also employed at Greg’s Bar-B-Que.

She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a member of Gold Wing Chapter L2.

Survivors, in addition to her father, include companion Kerry D. Plyler, of the home; son Charles Lee Correll, Greensboro; sister Kathy Correll, China Grove; and brothers Kevin Dale and Armand Douglas Correll, both of Kannapolis, and Bobby Lee Correll Jr., Lexington.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Centenary United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Champion. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation:6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Calvin-Cook Funeral Home.

Avery ‘Buck’ Gobble

ALBEMARLE —Avery Lester “Buck” Gobble, 93, 44036B Hwy. 24/27 E., died Sunday (Aug. 26, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont Nursing Center.

Services: 7 p.m. Tuesday, West Albemarle Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 6:30. Burial, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: At the church after the service.

Virginia N. Harrington

KANNAPOLIS — Virginia Nicholson Harrington, 81, 509 W. Eighth St., died at her home Sunday (Aug. 26, 2001) from cancer.

Born Nov. 30, 1919, in Royston,Ga., Mrs. Harrington was a daughter of the late Edward and Mattie Lou Nicholson. She retired fromCannon Mills Co. Plant 1, sheet department.

Survivors include husband of 67 years Dewey B. Harrington; son Lynn Harrington, Dallas,Texas; stepmother Ida Nicholson, Kannapolis; two granddaughters; and four great-grandsons.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Weldon Key. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 12-1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home on West Eighth Street.

Mabel R. Hoffner

Mabel Roberts Hoffner, 97, formerly of Salisbury, died Sunday (Aug. 26, 2001) at Hospice of Atlanta, Ga.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

William S. Huffman

William Sylvester Huffman, 85, 420 N. Boundary St., died Saturday (Aug. 25, 2001)at Rowan RegionalMedical Center after a period of declining health.

BornFeb. 16, 1916, in Marion County, W.Va., Mr. Huffman, a son of the late Charles Harrison and Lucy Florence Huffman, attended the MarionCounty schools in West Virginia. He retired as a truck driver from Red BallTucking in Charleston, S.C.

A veteran, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

His wife, Mabel Skinner Huffman, preceded him in death.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

The body will be cremated. No services will be held.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Emma C. Huneycutt

RICHFIELD — Emma Lee Clark Huneycutt, 84, 40741 Ridenhour Road, died Saturday (Aug. 25, 2001) at Stanly Manor.

Born July 12, 1917, in Anson County, Mrs. Huneycutt, a daughter of the late William Henry and Esther Rebecca Clark Huneycutt, retired from Wiscassett Mill Co. She was a member of Cottonville Baptist Church, Norwood

Her husband,Eddie Ervin Huneycutt, died April 20, 1988. A daughter, Alice Ruth Huneycutt, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons Ted Huneycutt, Misenheimer, Melvin Huneycutt, Richfield, and William Huneycutt, Albemarle; daughters Betty H. Vanhoy, Richfield, Evelyn H. Chance, Albemarle, and Esther H. Aldridge, Oakboro; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Stanly Funeral Home chapel, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev.Reese Linnell and the Rev. Claude Burleson. Burial, Cottonville Baptist Church cemetery, Norwood.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Betty H. Vanhoy, 40727 Ridenhour Road.

Spencer Lyerly

GASTONIA —Spencer Lyerly, 81, Queensgate Street, died Sunday (Aug. 26, 2001) at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

A native of Rowan County, Mr. Lyerly was a son of the late Topsy and Mary Catherine Beaver Lyerly. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion and St. James Lutheran Church, Rockwell.

His first wife, Margaret Riddle Lyerly, preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife Anne Gardner Lyerly; sons Robert Lyerly, Huntingdon, Pa., Richard Lyerly,Williamston, S.C., and Raymond Lyerly,Savannah, Ga.; brothers John Lyerly, LaJolla, Calif., and Bill Lyerly, Dallas, N.C.; sister Edith Boone, Pensacola, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Services: 9 p.m. Tuesday, Carothers Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev.Carl Fisher. Burial, 11 a.m. Wednesday, National Cemetery,Salisbury.

James P. Nantz

James Preston Nantz, 65, Salisbury, died Saturday (Aug. 25, 2001)at his home.

Born Dec. 11, 1935, in Rowan County, Mr. Nantz was a son of the late Clarence Preston and Cora Lee Pope Nantz. He retired from Raggs Incorporated in Rockwell and was employed with Wal-Mart, Salisbury.

He was member of West Corinth Baptist Church, Mooresville.

Survivors include son Timothy Nantz, Lexington; daughters Linda N. Litaker, Charlotte, Julie N. Haughton, Batavia,Ohio, Diana L. Young, Salisbury, and Denise N. Ackley, Easton, Pa.; sisters Elizabeth Compton and Lois Williams, both of Mooresville, and Mable Lee Leonard, Faith; brothers Oscar and Gray Nantz, both of Mooresville, and Johnny Nantz, Mocksville; and 10 grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Randy Crowell. Burial, WillowValley Cemetery.

Ralph C. Shepherd

KANNAPOLIS —The funeral will be Tuesday for Ralph C. Shepherd, 72, 208 Heintz Ave., who died Saturday (Aug. 25, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a year of declining health.

Born Nov. 27, 1928, in Wilkes County, Mr. Shepherd was a son of the late Charlie Franklin Shepherd and Gaye Wyatt Shepherd Little. He served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War.

A member of Mable Avenue Bible Church, he retired as an electrician in 1990 fromMoss and Moore Inc.

He was preceded in death by sons Roger Dale Shepherd and James Ralph Shepherd and daughter Gaye Shepherd Tucker.

Survivors include wife Margaret Miskelly Shepherd; daughter Tracy Shepherd Staley, Harrisburg; sister Bonnie Ratliff,Kannapolis; brother Charles Ray Shepherd,Kannapolis; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

ALBEMARLE — Inez Byrd Simmons, 78, 410 Moose St., died Sunday (Aug. 26, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont Nursing Center.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

James C. Torrence

James Calvin Torrence, 42, 2275 Bradshaw Road, died Saturday (Aug. 25, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Paul Daniel Younger

KANNAPOLIS —Paul Daniel Younger, 74, 2920 Centergrove Road, died Saturday (Aug. 25, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after four months of declining health and three weeks of critical illness.

Born in Guilford County, Mr. Younger was a son of the late George Pender and Nellie Hudgin Younger. Employed for several years by CannonMills, Concord, he retired from the town of Landis. He attended Harvest Baptist Church.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World WarII.

His wife, Dorothy Mae Long Younger, died in 1994.

Survivors include daughters Pauline Y. Myers, Richfield, Glenda Fay Y. Upright, Salisbury, and Brenda Y. Lindley, Stanfield; sister Thelma Reese,Greensboro; brothers Fred Younger, Chesapeake Bay, Va., and Albert Younger, Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Harvest Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Larry Lamberth. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30. Burial, Pine Hill Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Burlington.
