Nannie L. Blackwelder
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Sunday for Nannie Arlee Lefler Blackwelder, 88, 5420 Sam Broadway Loop, who died Thursday (Aug. 23, 2001) at Big Elm Nursing Center.
BornMarch 7, 1913, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Blackwelder, a daughter of the late John and Ida Lefler, retired from the spinning room at Cannon Mills plant 6, Concord. She was a member of Wil-Mar Park Baptist Church.
Her husband, Fetzer Blackwelder, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Willene Tarlton, Kannapolis; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Terry Brown. Burial,Oakwood Cemetery,Concord.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.At other times the family will be at the home on Sam Broadway Loop.
Nancy Call
MOORESVILLE — Nancy Alley Call, 66, 10885 Unity Church Road, died Thursday (Aug. 23, 2001) at Brightmoor Nursing Center, Salisbury.
Born Oct. 29, 1934, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Augnes Haiger and L.E. Alley. She attended Landis High School and was a textile worker.
Survivors include son Steve Fields, Kannapolis; daughter Amanda Shealy, Hickory; sisters, Hattie Alley and Willie Cook, both of Mooresville, and Mary Ellen Gibson, Wallace, S.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Larry Beaver, pastor, Main Street Baptist Church, China Grove. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The rest of the time the family will at the home of sister Hattie Alley, 10885 Unity Church Road.

Viola Rufty Myers
The funeral will be Sunday for Viola Rufty Myers, 92, Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury, who died Friday (Aug. 24, 2001) at the nursing center.
Born Sept. 10, 1908, in Rowan County, Mrs. Myers, a daughter of the late William Arthur and Bertha Owen Rufty, was educated in the Rowan County and Salisbury City schools. She resided in Morehead City for 30 years and returned to Salisbury in 1989.
She was employed in retail and had worked at Macanal Mills in Salisbury. A former member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, she was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was active in circles at both churches, Methodist Connection and in the Senior Games until 1989.
She was preceded in death by first husband, Cecil Kerr, and her second husband, H.B. Myers. A son, Richard Jess Kerr, died in November 2000.
Survivors include daughter Marilyn Kerr Hubbard,Salisbury; sisters Frances Rufty Barnhardt, Anne Rufty Glasgow and Mary Rufty Morgan, all of Salisbury; six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

LEXINGTON — Alice Marie McKinney Schwartz, 50, Billy Smith Road, died Thursday (Aug. 23, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after six months of illness.
Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m. Monday, Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Burial, Lexington City Cemetery.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
Ray Shepherd
The funeral will be Sunday for Shelton Ray Shepherd, 57, Salisbury, who died Thursday (Aug. 23, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 14, 1944, in Rowan County, Mr. Shepherd was a son of Rachel Rebecca Foster Shepherd, Salisbury, and the late Lester David Shepherd. He was a graduate of Boyden High School.
Owner/operator of Outdoor Designs, he was earlier employed as a supervisor at Fiber Industries, now KoSa, and owned and operated Care Free Lawn Service. He was a member of Haven Lutheran Church, Spencer Moose Lodge and AmVets.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include companion Peggy Bonds, of the home; daughters Jennifer Shepherd Burns, Anderson, S.C., and Dana Shepherd DiMarzo, Salisbury; sister Brenda Armes, Charlotte; and eight grandchildren.
Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Sunday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by family members. The body will be cremated.

Beatrice M. Williams
LANDIS — The funeral will be Saturday for Beatrice Moore Williams, 86, formerly of 108S. Meriah St., who died Thursday (Aug. 23, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury.
Born Nov. 25, 1914, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Williams, a daughter of the late Jackson T. and Martha Ellen Readling Moore, was educated in the Cabarrus County schools. She retired as a spinner from Linn-Corriher Mills. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Landis, where she attended Sunday school and was involved in the senior citizen group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Robert Williams, and children Ellen Williford, Shirley Patterson and Joseph Robert “Jackie” Williams Jr.
Survivors include brother Doc Moore, Yadkinville; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m.Saturday, West Lawn Memorial Park,China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Graham Nahouse.
