SPENCER — The funeral will be Saturday for Kenneth Ray Coley, 66, 312 N. Yadkin Ave., died Thursday (Aug. 23, 2001) at W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center after several months of declining health.
Born Sept. 2, 1934, in Stanly County, Mr. Coley, a son of the late Wade H. Coley and Veda Smith Coley, was reared by Evelyn Smith Coley, his stepmother and aunt. He was a graduate of Albemarle High School and was a Baptist.
A veteran, he was in the U.S. Army for 23-1/2 years, serving in Vietnam, Turkey and Germany. He retired from W.A. Brown Refrigeration Co., Salisbury.
Survivors include wife Carolyn Shuffler Coley, whom he married Nov. 24, 1984; son James Livengood, China Grove; daughters Vickie Honbarger, Woodleaf, Sue Sherer, Rock Hill, S.C., and Michelle Hellerman, Fort Bragg; brothers Richard Coley, Monroe, and Todd Coley, Albemarle; sisters Doris Boger, Rockwell, Edna Mitchell, Salisbury, and Debbie Carter, Matthews; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Davis, a son of the late Roy and Daisy Goodman Davis, was a kiln fireman. He was a Baptist and a den leader of Cub Scout Pack 825 in Newland.

The funeral will be Saturday for Edna Faye Hamilton Kesler, 52, 240 Honeysuckle Lane, who died Wednesday (Aug. 22, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after eight years of declining health.
Born Feb. 20, 1949, in Rowan County, Mrs. Kesler, a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Edna Blanche Clodfelter Hamilton, was a graduate of Boyden High School.
She was a former manager of Goodwill Industries and a former employee of Roses Department Store. She retired from Friedman’s Jewelers.
Survivors include husband James R. Kesler; son James R. Kesler Jr.,Salisbury; brother Robert L. Hamilton, Mandin, N.D.; and sisters Becky Snow, Auburn, Neb., Linda Norman, New Bern, and Sylvia Patterson, Rockwell.

ALBEMARLE — Lula Virginia Lilly, 85, 528 Elizabeth Ave., died Thursday (Aug. 23, 2001) at Britthaven-Piedmont Nursing Center.
Born May 6, 1916, in Stanly County, Mrs. Lilly was a daughter of the late Primus and Eva Davis Allen. She was educated in the Stanly and Montgomery counties.
A retired domestic worker, she was an evangelist and a member of Greater Mount Zion Ministry. She was a former member of Barringer’s Chapel Baptist Church, Norwood, Saint Paul Friendship Church of God and Corner Church of God.
Her husband, Rufus Pavo Lilly, preceded her in death.
Survivors include foster daughter Lynette T. Huntley, Norwood.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Barringer’s Chapel Baptist Church, Norwood, conducted by the Rev. Broce Sowell, pastor, and Bishop A.V. Lindsey. Burial, church cemetery.

ALBEMARLE — Daniel Leo Morgan, 69, 33729-B Ridge St., died Wednesday (Aug. 22, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct., 12, 1931, in Rowan County, Mr. Morgan was a son of the late Henry Richard and Fannie Josephine Troutman Morgan. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Airborne.
Retired, he had been a construction superintendent with Sebrell and Griffin Construction Co.
His wife, Peggy Sue Greene Morgan, died in 1995.
Survivors include sons Mitchell Morgan, Albemarle, and Mickey Morgan, Gold Hill; brother Ralph Morgan, Salisbury; sisters Myrtle Fleeman, Gold Hill, Maryphene Eudy, Charlotte, Ruby Almond, Pearline Carver and Ruth Turner, all of Albemarle, Evelyn Cranford, Salisbury, and Betty Morton, Rockwell; and four grandchildren.

Born in Rowan County, Mrs. Morrison was a daughter of Virginia F. Hogue, Cooleemee, and the late Charles James Hogue. She was a 1972 graduate of West Rowan High School and attended Winston-Salem State University.
