Vance Connelly

MT ULLA—Vance Brown Connelly, 90, Mt. Ulla, died Friday (Aug. 17, 2001) at Liberty Commons Nursing Center, after a period of declining health.

Born Sept. 25, 1910, in Rowan County, Mr. Connelly was the son of the late William Arthur and Terza Nancy Davis Connelly. He was educated in the Rowan County Schools.

Retired from Burlington Industries in Mooresville, he was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and the Adult Men’s Sunday School class.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Kluttz Connelly on Sept. 4, 2000.

Survivors include sons Robert C. Connelly, Mt. Ulla, Russell E. Connelly, Bonita, Calif., and the Rev. William V. Connelly, Oakland (Red House), Md.; daughters Margaret C. Faust, Cleveland, and Amy C. Padgett, Salisbury; brother, Paschal Connelly, Mt. Ulla; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Milbert Kurtz, church pastor. Burial will be in the family plot in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Lyerly Funeral Home. Other times, the family will be at the home of a son in Mt. Ulla.

Rona Epps Corriher

ALBEMARLE—Rona Epps Corriher, 88, 1214 Pine St., died Friday (Aug. 17, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, at Grace Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Sid Martin. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home.

 

Clarence “Poppe” Cox

CHINA GROVE—Clarence “Poppe” Woodrow Cox, 85, died Friday (Aug. 17, 2001) after two months of illness.

Born Nov. 28, 1915, in Alleghany County, Mr. Cox was the son of the late Joe and Alice Jones Cox. He was a car salesman until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Eubank Cox, on Aug. 2, 2001.

Survivors include daughter Sue C. Bare, China Grove; sister Ann Miller, Jefferson, NC; brother Clay Cox, Sparta, NC; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Services: A private memorial will be held Monday at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel.

Cree Haithcock Sr.

Edward Cree Haithcock, 93, of the Dukeville community of Salisbury, died Saturday (Aug. 18, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born July 31, 1908, in Warren County, he was the son of the late Henry and Kate Gillilon Haithcock. He was educated in the Warren County Schools.

He was employed with Duke Power for 48 years and retired as supervisor at Buck Steam Plant.

Mr. Haithcock was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spencer, where he served as deacon. He was also a member of the Spencer Masonic Lodge #543, A.F. & A.M. and was an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Ruby Truesdale Haithcock, whom he married November 27, 1933; a son, E.C. Haithcock Jr., Charlotte; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, at Summersett Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Franklin Myers, minister of First Baptist Church in Spencer. Burial will be at Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Summersett Funeral Home.

Alma Mae Hannah

ALBEMARLE—Alma Mae Bagwell Hannah, 80, 625 Bethany Road, died Friday (Aug. 17, 2001) at Stanly Manor.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel conducted by the Rev. David Alexander. Burial will be at Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home.

Lena Karene Hartsell

ALBEMARLE—Lena Karene Hartsell, 47, 24409 St. Martin Road, died Friday (Aug. 17, 2001) at Stanly Manor.

Services: 2 p.m. today at Centerview Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Vaughn and Mr. Jimmy Eudy. Burial will be at Centerview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Flossie Honeycutt

ALBEMARLE—Flossie Marie Mills Honeycutt, 81, 318 Cannon Ave., died Friday (Aug. 17, 2001) at Stanly Manor.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Clay Waters. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Park.

Nella Ann Lee

OAKBORO—Nella Ann Burris Lee, 87, 16667 Frog Pond Road, died Friday (Aug. 17, 2001) at her home.

Services: 4 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Dr. Phillip Hunter. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation: 3 to 4 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

 

Gladys Lee Snider

LEXINGTON—Gladys Lee Myers Snider, 96, Lexington Health Care, died Saturday (Aug. 18, 2001) at Lexington Health Care.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Fairmont Presbyterian Church.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home.
