Sarah Jones Brown

ADVANCE — Sarah Louise Jones Brown, 87, 4264 U.S. Hwy. 158, died Thursday (Aug. 16, 2001) at her home after a period of illness.

Born in Laurens County, S.C., Mrs. Brown resided in Advance for most of her life. She was a member of Smith Grove AME Zion Church, Good Samaritan Club, Davie Senior Center and The Eagle Network.

Survivors include sons Melvin and Elmer Brown, both of Winston-Salem; daughters Ruby Lyons, Advance, and Mamie Young and Pearlie Brown, both of Winston-Salem; brothers Marcellus Jones, Winston-Salem, Joe Nathan Jones, Salisbury, and Ulysses Jones, Thomasville; sisters Mary J.Dalton, Laura A. Barnes, Virginia Lanier and Peggy Anderson, all of Lexington, Elizabeth Jackson, Thomasville, and Mattie P. Roberts, Salisbury; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Graham Funeral Home chapel, Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Conita A. Hunt. Burial, Smith Grove AME Zion Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A. Victor Kirkman Sr.

LEXINGTON — A. Victor “Vic” Kirkman, 88, Greenway Drive, died Friday (Aug. 17, 2001), at his home.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, First Baptist Church. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation:6-8 p.m. Sunday, Davidson Funeral Home chapel. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Neila Ann Burris Lee

OAKBORO — Neila Ann Burris Lee, 87, 16667 Frog Pond Road, died Friday (Aug. 17, 2001), at her home.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is in charge.

Visitation:3-4 p.m. Sunday, at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home.

 

Donald Wayne Parks

The funeral will be Monday for Donald Wayne Parks, 58, Salisbury, who died Friday (Aug. 17, 2001) at his home after six months of declining health.

Born April 20, 1943, in Rowan County, Mr. Parks was a son of Rachel Ritchie Parks, Salisbury, and the late Donald Boyden Parks. He was a 1961 graduate of East Rowan High School.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam War, he served as a master printer aboard the USS Hunley. He was employed at Service Partners LLC Limited in Mooresville until his illness.

Mr. Parks was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

His first wife, Brenda Jones Parks, died in June 1988.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Vicki Shaw Parks, whom he married May 6, 1989; stepsons James R. Hill Jr., Cary, and Jonathan Shaw Hill,Lewisville; sisters Nancy Parks Cannon,Birmingham, Ala., and Phyllis Parks McGinnis, Rockwell; half sister Donalda Parks Salada, Fayetteville; and one granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl R. Sachtleben, pastor, and the Rev. John Tucker, associate pastor. Burial, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church cemetery.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Summersett Funeral Home.At other times, the family will be at the home.

Willie M. Watson

CHINA GROVE —The funeral will be Sunday for Willie McDaniel Watson, 92, formerly of Lentz Road, who died Thursday (Aug. 16, 2001) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Born Jan. 24, 1909, in Rowan County, Mrs. Watson was a daughter of the late John A. and Mary Katherine Creason McDaniel. She retired from the Cannon Mills sewing room and was a member of Bible Missionary Baptist Church, Kannapolis.

Survivors include son Jerry Edward Tutterow, Chattanooga, Tenn.; brother Ivy McDonald, Fuquay-Varina; sister Grace Ratledge, Mocksville; 10 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Hoffner. Burial,Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials: Bible Missionary Baptist Church, 11350 Old Concord Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
