Norman F. Brinkley
KANNAPOLIS —The funeral will be Thursday for Norman Franklin Brinkley, 81, 106 N. East Ave., who died Monday (Aug. 13, 2001) at his home.
Born April 1, 1920, in Kannapolis, Mr. Brinkley was a son of the late James F. and Mary Clayton Brinkley. On Nov. 30, 1982, he retired as captain of the Kannapolis Police Department following 37 years of service.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Allen Graham Lodge 695 and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. A Shriner, he was a member of Oasis Temple, Charlotte.
During World War II, he served three years in the U.S. Army with the military police in Panama City, Fla., and a year in Europe with the 100th Infantry Division. He was a member of Poston Perkins VFW Post 8989.
Survivors include wife Mildred Wike Brinkley; sisters Annie Ruth Fisher, Thomasville, Edith Thornburg, Lincolnton, Janice McCombs, Staunton, Va., and Helen Lawton, Ocala, Fla.; and brothers Homer Brinkley, Charlotte, and J.B,. Brinkley, Pismo Beach, Calif.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr. Tom Cabaniss. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park. Full police honors by Kannapolis Police Department Honor Guard.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on North East Ave.

LEXINGTON — Barbara Woods Houck, 50, Old Linwood Road, died Monday (Aug. 13, 2001) at her home after 12 years of declining health.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Mount Carmel Freewill Baptist Church. Entombment, Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Old Linwood Road.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —Dr. Paul E. Howard, Jacksonville, Fla., died Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at his home.

CHINA GROVE — Ruth Haywood Hudson, 81, 330 Rose Ave., died Wednesday (Aug. 15, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

SPENCER — Lula Koontz Kesler, 91, Spencer, died Wednesday (Aug. 15, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Lucille F. Miller
LEXINGTON — Lucille Foster Miller, 86, Robert Floyd Drive, died Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Thursday, Lexington City Cemetery.
Visitation: None. The family will receive friends at their respective homes.

C. Dwight Pyatt
The Rev. C. Dwight Pyatt, 72, Salisbury, died Tuesday (Aug. 14, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 26, 1928, in Marion, Rev. Pyatt was a son of the late Rev. James Davis Pyatt and Carrie Shaver Pyatt. He was a graduate and valedictorian of Weaverville High School class of 1945. In 1947, he was a graduate and salutatorian at Brevard College, where he received his A.A. degree. He received his A.B. in 1949 and his M.Div. in 1952, both from Duke University.
Rev. Pyatt was ordained a deacon in 1950 and as elder in full connection in 1953 in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.
He served the following United Methodist churches: Fair View, Mount Mourne, 1952-1955; Homestead, Charlotte, 1955-1959; Fair Grove, Thomasville, 1959-1963; Central, Spencer, 1963-1968; Long’s Chapel, Lake Junaluska, 1968-1972; First, Maiden, 1972-1973; Pine Grove, Winston-Salem, 1973-1978; Pleasant Garden, 1978-1982; New Salem, Statesville, 1982-1984; Cole Memorial, Charlotte, 1984-1988; Wesley Heights-St. Timothy, Lexington, 1988-1990; and Midway, Lexington, 1990-1992, from which he retired.
Survivors include wife Hilda Arndt Pyatt, whom he married Oct. 5, 1955; sons the Rev. James L. Pyatt, Denver, N.C., Timothy D. Pyatt, Chapel Hill, and Andrew C. Pyatt, High Point; and five grandchildren.
Services: Memorial, 4 p.m. Thursday, First United Methodist Church of Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Thomas L. Griffis, pastor, the Rev. Sherri E. Barnes, associate pastor, and the Rev. Joe Casey, a retired United Methodist minister. A private graveside service was held earlier at Fair View United Methodist Church Cemetery, Mount Mourne.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the church after the service.
