Ronald Olyn Ballard

KANNAPOLIS — Ronald “Ron” Olyn Ballard, 52, 1504 Moose Road, died Saturday (Aug. 11, 2001) at his home.

Born Dec. 9, 1948, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Ballard was a son of the late Lewis Charles and Pauline Wheless Ballard. He worked for several companies in the construction industry.

Survivors include wife Janice Pierce Ballard, Millers Creek; son Ronald Todd Ballard, Millers Creek; sister Linda Jacobs, Leland; and brothers Larry Ballard, China Grove, and Paul Ballard, Charlotte.

Services: Memorial service, 4 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel.

Visitation: The family will receive friends after the service.

Liston H. Burleson

ALBEMARLE - Liston Hoyle Burleson, 85, of 28625 Canton Road, died Sunday (Aug. 12, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont.

Born May 4, 1916, in Stanly County, Mr. Burleson was a son of the late Homer Cleveland and Ethel Verona Efird Burleson. He retired from the cutting department of Wiscassett Mills after 40 years of service and was an agent and claim adjuster for Stanly Mutual Fire Insurance Company for 35 years. A member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, he had served as a teacher and superintendent for the Sunday school and was a scoutmaster of the Endy Troop. A member of the Moose Lodge, he served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army during World War II.

His wife, Hazel Beatrice Griffin Burleson, preceded him in death.

Survivors include son Roger G. Burleson, Arlington, Ga.; daughters Patricia Harward, Norwood, Iris Hill, Central, S.C., Myrna Lynn Lombardo, Raleigh, and Sandra Archer, Murphy; brothers Clegg, Max and Retha Burleson, all of Albemarle; sisters Ramelle Freeman, Eunice Morton, Faye Morton, Sue Page and Carolyn Slack, all of Albemarle; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Pine Ridge United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. H. R. (Buddy) Compton with military rites by the Albemarle Stanly County DAV. Burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Canton Road.

Emma A. Helms

Emma A. Helms, 86, 650 Rimer Road, died Monday (Aug. 13, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

Margaret Mullis Leafe

KANNAPOLIS — Margaret Mullis Leafe, 82, formerly of 305 E. 4th St., died Monday (Aug. 13, 2001) at Transitional Health Services.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Annie R. Troutman

ROCKWELL — Annie Bell Rodgers Troutman, 79, 180 Carter Loop St., died Saturday (Aug. 11, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, after a lengthy illness.

Born Dec. 20, 1921, Mrs. Troutman was a daughter of the late Wiley Lonzo and Lillian Nora Rumple Rodgers.

She retired from the sewing room in Cannon Mills Plant 1, Kannapolis, after 30 years, and then worked as the “biscuit lady” at the Rockwell Hardee’s for several years. She later began quilting and donated baby quilts to hundreds of children across the state.

Mrs. Troutman was a member of First Baptist Church of Gold Hill.

Survivors include husband Harry Troutman; son Gerald Troutman, Winston-Salem; sisters Edith Blackwelder, Lucille Brown and Irene Donaldson, all of Kannapolis; and brother Edward Rodgers, Kannapolis.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Toney Parsons. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Margaret Laurents

KANNAPOLIS — Margaret Marie Barton Laurents, 75, of 509 Blue Jay Drive, died Sunday (Aug. 12, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, following a serious illness.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Gary Monroe Shue

CHINA GROVE — Gary Monroe Shue, 54, of 116 Rutledge St., died Saturday (Aug. 11, 2001) at his home.

Born Sept. 16, 1946 in Cabarrus County, Mr. Shue was a son of the late Paul Franklin and Fannie Mae Shoaf Shue. He had been employed in the west finishing department of Fieldcrest-Cannon for 30 years.

Survivors include wife Peggy Christy Shue; son Gary Wayne Shue, Mooresville; daughters Patricia Ann Hunsucker and Patty Bruce, both of China Grove; brothers Blondie Shue, New London, Buck and Toy Shue, both of Mount Pleasant; sisters Peggy Cranford and Frankie Rowland, both of Mount Pleasant, Sarah Harkey, Concord, Marcia Barringer, Misenheimer, and Sue Christy, Kannapolis; and three grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Sipe.Burial in West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
