Margaret Barnhardt
KANNAPOLIS —The funeral will be Sunday for Margaret Walter Barnhardt, 75, 2915 Vale Ave., who died Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) at Avante At Concord.
Born Dec. 1, 1925, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Barnhardt, a daughter of the late Martin M. Walter Sr. and Minnie Allman Walter, was educated in the Cabarrus County Schools. She was employed in the sewing room at Cannon Mills.
Survivors include husband Earl “Lynn” Barnhardt; daughter Sherry Clary, China Grove; brothers Melvin and Clarence Walter and Martin Walter Jr., all of Kannapolis; sisters Pauline Parker,Concord, Jerline Helms, Ridgefield,Ohio, and Alma Lequire, Frances Slough, Lessie R. Hudson and Doris Turner, all of Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, conducted by the Rev. John Helms. Burial, Mount Moriah Church cemetery.

Sybil Faggart Bost
KANNAPOLIS — Sybil Faggart Bost, 63, 2540 Deal Road, Mooresville, died Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center. He had been in declining health for a year.
Born on Sept. 8, 1937, in Rowan County, Mrs. Bost as a daughter of the late Harold and Lois Albright Faggart.
She was a member of Grace Covenant Church, where she was involved in many activities, including teaching Sunday School and Happy Hearts.
Survivors include husband, Perry Bost; son Derek Bost, Mooresville; and brother Dennis Faggart, Lancaster, Pa.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Grace Covenant Church, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Weatherby. Burial, Concordia Lutheran Church cemetery, China Grove. Whitley’s Funeral Home in in charge.

Carl Union Childress
KANNAPOLIS — Carl Union Childress, 83, 295 Lucky Drive NW, Concord, died Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.
Born on June 5, 1918, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late Gus “Curly” and Cordia Stallings Childress.
Mr. Childress retired in 1980 as a truck driver for ABF Trucking Co. and was a member of Teamster Local 51. He had been a member of Miami Baptist Church and served in the Army during World War II.
His wife, Vivian Watson Childress, died in 1982.
Survivors include daughters Geraldine C. Plott and Barbara C. Yates, both of Concord; son, Carl Childress Jr., Harrisburg; brother William Childress, Salisbury; sister Helen C. Stutts, Mooresville; 11 grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Richard Pethel. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mildred Coffey
Mildred DeWeese Coffey, 87, 8 Pine Tree Road, Salisbury, died Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) at her home.
Born Oct. 23, 1913, in Salisbury, Mrs. Coffey was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Sallie Miller DeWeese.
Educated in the Salisbury Schools, she graduated from Boyden High School and Mars Hill Junior College and received a BA degree from Meredith College, Raleigh.
She taught the fifth and sixth grades in Spencer and East Spencer before retiring in 1978 after 32 years teaching. Mrs. Coffey was a member of First Baptist Church, Country Club of Salisbury and Amicitia Book Club, of which she was also charter president.
Her husband, Dr. James C. Coffey, died on June 18, 1987.
Survivors include sons Dr. James C. Coffey Jr., Shallotte, Robert Dixon Coffey, Kannapolis, Dr. Ralph A. Coffey, Asheville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Sunday, City Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Tom Roberts. Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the home.
Bertha Myers
LEXINGTON — Bertha Irlene Wilson Yarbrough Myers, 86, Cornelia Drive, formerly of Kildee Drive, died Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Lexington City Cemetery.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Sandra Phillips, 2382 Helmstetler Road.
James Luke Pruitt
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — James Luke Pruitt, 85, Sacramento, brother of John and Bill Pruitt, of Cooleemee, died Monday (Aug. 6, 2001).
Born May 3, 1916, in Commerce, Ga., Mr. Pruitt was a member of Allen Chapel AME Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Florence Pruitt, and son Donald Pruitt.
Survivors, in addition to his brothers, include other children Johnny Benton, Janie Rankins-Mayle, James L. Pruitt Jr. and Ronald Pruitt; other siblings Lizzie Teasley, Janie Vinson-Haynes and Claudine Belton; and numerous grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at Macedonia Baptist Church with burial at Sunset Lawn Memorial Park.

Thomas Sherrill
KANNAPOLIS — Thomas Eugene “Fatback” Sherrill I, 57, 1433 Village Park Road, died Thursday (Aug. 9, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, after a serious illness of several months.
Born Aug. 9, 1944, in Rowan County, Mr. Sherrill was a son of the late Windell and The late Odessa Moody Sherrill.
He attended Aggrey Memorial High School and was last employed as a professional lather in construction. He was a member of Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church.
Survivors include wife Karen Rolle Sherrill; sons Patrick Williams, Salisbury, and Thomas E. Sherrill II, of the home; daughter Odessa Sherrill, of the home; brother Charles Sherrill, Anchorage, Ak.; and sister Elizabeth Gillespie, Kannapolis.

Albert C. Stapleton
MOUNT ULLA — Albert Clark Stapleton, 70, Triplett Road, died Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) at his home.
Born Aug. 1, 1931, in Webster County, Ga., Mr. Stapleton, was a son of the late Albert C. and Mildred Dennard Stapleton. He retired as a tool maker from General Tire Corp.
He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Smith Masonic Lodge 85 AF &AM in Georgia and First Baptist Church, Cleveland, where he was active as long as his health permitted.
Survivors include wife Mattie Jamieson Stapleton, whom he married Sept. 8, 1956; sons S. Clark Stapleton, Davidson, Mike Stapleton, Statesville, and Greg Stapleton, Mount Ulla; sisters Ruby S. Gunnels,Montgomery,Ala., and Joyce S. Daniel, Richland,Ga.; and six grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Cleveland First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Dancy III and Dr. Kenneth Hyde. Burial, church cemetery.
