Mary Allen Goodnight

KANNAPOLIS — Mary Allen Goodnight, 86, 1008 Churchview St., died Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2001)at Transitional Health Services.

Born March 21, 1915, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Goodnight was a daughter of the late Paul Taylor and Annie Smith Litaker. She retired from Cannon Mills Co. and was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church.

Her husband,Paul Barringer Goodnight, died in 1984.

Survivors include daughters Carolyn Sweatt and Jeanie Fisher, both of Kannapolis, and Julia Barbee, Midland; son Eddie Goodnight, Concord; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday,Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Howard. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation:6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Carolyn Sweatt, 1018 Churchview St.

Memorials: Lakewood Baptist Church, Mission Fund, 806 Kluttz St., Kannapolis, NC 28081.

 

H.T. Harris

H.T. Harris, 75, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2001) at Spencer Health Care, Spencer.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

James P. Hartline

The funeral will be Friday for James Preston Hartline, 79, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Aug. 7, 2001) at his home.

Born Oct. 3, 1921, in Rowan County, Mr. Hartline, a son of the late Amos Preston and Myrtle Felts Hartline, was educated in the Rowan County schools. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre with the U.S. Navy.

The retired operator at College Shell Station, he was a member of First United Methodist Church, Fulton Masonic Lodge 99, Scottish Rite Bodies, Oasis Shrine, Rowan Shrine Club, Spencer Moose Lodge and Salisbury Elks Lodge.

His wife, Marie Eller Hartline, died Jan. 13, 2001.

Survivors include sons James P. “Jimmie” Hartline Jr. and Larry A. Hartline, both of Salisbury; daughters Nancy Hannold and Janet Hartline, both of Salisbury; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m.Friday,Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev.Thomas Griffis, senior pastor, and the Rev. Sherri Barnes, associate pastor, First United Methodist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park. Masonic graveside rites by Fulton Lodge.

Visitation:7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Jimmie Hartline, Salisbury.

Robert W. Koscielniak

CHINA GROVE — Robert Wayne Koscielniak, 44, China Grove, died Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born June 18, 1957, in Montebello, Calif., Mr. Koscielniak was a son of Edward and Juanita Gabbard Koscielniak. He was a graduate of San Gabriel High School, San Gabriel, Calif., and Pasadena City College, Pasadena, Calif.

A Catholic, he was the chief executive officer’s secretary for Kellogg Oil Refinery in Houston, Texas.

Survivors include brothers Joel B. Koscielniak, China Grove, and Charles Koscielniak, Claremont, Calif.

The body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, was in charge.

 

Neta E. McCall

Neta E. McCall, 81, Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury, died Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2001).

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

Leroy Reese

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Leroy Reese, 63, 702 Bergen St., died Thursday (Aug. 2, 2001) at Interfaith Medical Center.

Born July 8, 1938, in Salisbury, N.C., Mr. Reese, a son of the late Ed and Nathalee Byrdine Reese, was a graduate of J.C. Price High School and Livingstone College, in Salisbury, N.C.

He was a counselor for Black Veterans for Social Justice in New York City. A former member of Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ, Spencer, N.C., he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Army National Guard.

Survivors include brother Robert L. Reese, Salisbury; and sister Maggie Reese Witherspoon, New Jersey.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home chapel, Salisbury, N.C., conducted by the Rev. Dr. Larry Ellis, pastor, Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ. Burial, National Cemetery, Brenner Avenue, Salisbury, N.C.

Visitation: 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
