Angel M. Apgar
LEXINGTON — Angel Mercedes Apgar, 1-day-old daughter of Kenny Beane and Edward Apgar, Robbins Circle, died Sunday (Aug. 5, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Thursday, Lexington City Cemetery.
Visitation: The family will be at the home on Robbins Circle.

Delma C. Bernhardt
Delma Cruse Bernhardt, 98, 710 Julian Road, died Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2001) at Genesis ElderCare.
Born March 16, 1903, in Rowan County, Mrs. Bernhardt, a daughter of the late George D. and Pearl Ritchie Cruse, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a seamstress and a homemaker.
A lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, she was active with WELCA. In 1983, the WELCA of St. Paul’s made her a life member of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary Auxiliary. The Women’s Missionary Society made her a life member in 1926. Also a member of the Altar Guild, she was a Sunday school teacher, pianist and a former member of the choir.
Her husband, Sidney Henderson Bernhardt, died Oct. 8, 1972. A granddaughter died Feb. 9, 1998.
Survivors include sons S. Ray and Bobby G. Bernhardt, both of Salisbury; sister Pauline McCombs, China Grove; five other grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, St.Paul’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. William S. Ketchie. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: The family will see friends at the church from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday in the fellowship hall. At other times the sons will be at their respective homes.

Mary G. Brewer
MOCKSVILLE — Mary Gallimore Brewer, 69, Edgewood Circle, died Tuesday (Aug. 7, 2001) at her home.
Born July 2, 1932, in Davidson County, Mrs. Brewer was a daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Mary Minnie Hill Gallimore. She was a homemaker. For a short time she was employed at Lynn Haven Nursing Home.
Her husband, Clyde Junior Brewer, died Sept. 20, 2000.
Survivors include sons Charles Brewer, Mocksville, Garry W. Brewer, Cooleemee, and Randy Brewer, Rockwell; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Lula M. Gunter
CLEVELAND — Lula M. Gunter, 78, 5080 Needmore Road, died Monday (Aug. 6, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born April 23, 1923, in Rowan County, Mrs. Gunter was a daughter of the late Everette and Temperance Steele Murph. She retired from Celanese, now KoSa, and was a member of South River United Methodist Church,Woodleaf.
Survivors include brother Pap Murph; sisters Elizabeth Williams, Neet Hood, Ruby Overcash and Shank Reavis, all of Woodleaf, Curt Miller, Salisbury, and Bub Murph, Cleveland.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, South River United Methodist Church, Woodleaf, conducted by the Rev. Bob McLawhorn and the Rev. Shirley Jones. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m.

Beulah Louise Hinson
KANNAPOLIS — Beulah Louise Hinson, 60, 1308 W. “A”St., died Tuesday (Aug. 7, 2001) at her home after 16 years of declining health.
Born June 9, 1941, in Rowan County, Mrs. Hinson was a daughter of Essie Beulah Barnhardt,Kannapolis, and the late Vestal Franklin Barnhardt. She retired due to disability from Linn-Corriher Mills.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include children Chris Moore, Kannapolis, Butch Bost, China Grove, Lee Williams and Donnie Bost, both of Fort Myers, Fla., and Danny Bost, Georgia; stepdaughters Jamie Moore, Salisbury, and Vickie Hilliard, Lexington; five grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Carl Eugene Miller
The funeral will be Thursday for Carl Eugene Miller, 83, Salisbury, who died Monday (Aug. 6, 2001) at W.G. Hefner VAMedical Center after a period of declining health.
Born Dec. 30, 1917, in Davie County, Mr. Miller, a son of the late Roy G. and Ossie Vera Snider Miller, was a graduate of Boyden High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Retired from Cone Mills, he was a former member of Samuel C. Hart American Legion Post. He was a member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church and Jordan Bible class.
Survivors include wife Elizabeth “Lib” Beck Miller, whom he married Dec. 24, 1939; son Carl Eugene Miller Jr., Rockwell; daughters Phyllis Martin, Harrisburg, and Gale Gibbs, Swannanoa; sister Margaret Eidson, Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

John Henry Pittman
CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Thursday for John Henry Pittman, 73, 1120 Beaten Path Road, who died Tuesday (Aug. 7, 2001) at his home.
Born Aug. 24, 1927, in Yancey County, Mr. Pittman, a son of the late Grady C. and Dora Callaway Pittman, was educated in the Yancey County schools. He was an explosives worker in the construction industry.
His wife, Kleeoon Dixon Pittman, died April 2, 1999.
Survivors include son David L. Pittman, China Grove; brothers Truman Pittman, Marietta, S.C., Bruce Pittman, Oklahoma City, Okla., and J.B. Pittman, Wheaton, Mo.; and sisters Marie and Lena Autry, both of Marietta, S.C.

Born Aug. 1, 1933, in Fort Mill, S.C., Mrs. Tipton was reared in Salisbury, N.C.

Juanita Williams
SPENCER — The funeral will be Thursday for Essie Juanita Williams, 81, Spencer, who died Tuesday (Aug. 7, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Aug. 13, 1919, in Spencer, Miss Williams was a daughter of the late H.S. and Flora Morton Williams. She was educated in the Spencer schools and a graduate of Pfeiffer Junior College, Misenheimer.
Employed by Southern Bell for 42 years, she retired in 1981. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Friends of the North Carolina Transportation Museum, and Spencer Presbyterian Church and the Sara Circle.
Survivors include sisters Ruth W. Workman, Spencer, and Virginia W.Grimes, Silver City.
Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Thursday, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Ruth Lenger, pastor, Spencer Presbyterian Church.
