after a three-month illness.

Alice Riley Dellinger
The funeral will be Wednesday for Alice Riley
Dellinger, 89, Salisbury, who died Sunday (Aug. 5, 2001) at Rowan Regional
Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 16, 1911, in Mecklenburg County, Mrs.
Dellinger was a daughter of the late Robert Hellard and Annie Lillian Fite
Riley. She was educated in the Mecklenburg County schools and was a graduate of
Charlotte High School.
She retired after 30 years from Cannon Mills,
Kannapolis, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury for more
than 50 years.
Husband Edward Marvin Dellinger died Nov. 29,
1988.
Survivors include daughters Paula Kenna,
Yadkinville, Terry Wolff, Salisbury, and Ann Craig, Waxhaw; sisters Ruth Pigg,
Midland, and Catherine Upright, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one grandchild; and one
great-grandchild.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First Presbyterian
Church of Salisbury, conducted by Dr. Robert M. Lewis. Burial, family plot,
Rowan Memorial Park.

CHINA GROVE — Mary Louise Nance Gibson, 75, 522

Floyd Lee Hurlocker
CONCORD — Floyd Lee Hurlocker, 82, formerly of
24 Green Acres Circle, died Sunday (Aug. 5, 2001) at Britthaven of Charlotte
after three years of declining health.
Born Aug. 24, 1918, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Hurlocker was the son of the late Luther Hurlocker and Mary Starnes Hurlocker.
He was employed with Linn-Corriher Mills Inc. in Landis until his retirement.
Survivors include son John Lee Hurlocker, East
Spencer; daughters Nila Jean Gilliam, Beckley, W.Va.; Patricia Ann Bell, Mount
Airy; brothers Fred Hurlocker and Luther Ray Hurlocker, both of Mount Pleasant;
sister Pauline Thomas, Concord; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Carl Eugene Miller, 83, Salisbury, died Monday
(Aug. 6, 2001) at Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury.

Lee Frank Morgan
Lee Frank Morgan, 74, 525 Stoner Morgan Road,
died Sunday (Aug. 5, 2001) at his home after two months of serious illness.
Born Dec. 6, 1926, in Salisbury, Mr. Morgan was a
son of the late Leroy and Theola House Morgan. A graduate of Dunbar High School,
he received his Realtor’s license from Davidson County Community College. He
was a self-employed carpenter, brick mason and cement finisher.
A lifetime member of Yadkin Grove Baptist Church,
he was a member for 62 years and served as church janitor, bus driver, Sunday
school teacher, senior choir member, trustee and ordained deacon, including
chairman for 18 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army and a Shriner, he was a member
of J.C. Price American Legion Post 107 and Eureka Scottish Rite Lodge 45.
Survivors include wife Sue Hoover Morgan;
daughter Suzette Bailey, Salisbury; sister Lorraine Strawder, Granite Quarry;
and a grandchild.

Velma “Penny” Brooks Weaver, 70, Linwood, who died Monday (Aug. 6, 2001) at
her home after several years of declining health and a week of serious illness.
Born May 5, 1931, in Rowan County, Mrs. Weaver, a
daughter of the late Arthur and Ann Chambers Brooks, was educated in the Rowan
County schools. She retired from N.C. Finishing Co., and was a member of
Christian Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband, W.C. “Dub” Weaver,
whom she married May 17, 1949; sons Jerry Brooks, Henrettia, Ray Weaver,
Salisbury, and Warren “Butch” Weaver,Yupon Beach; sister Betty Tilley,
Linwood; and five grandchildren.

retired as a painter.

Mary Sherrill Hager
MOORESVILLE — Mary Frances Sherrill Hager, 68,
Mooresville, died Monday (Aug. 6, 2001) at her home.
Born Dec. 8, 1932, Mrs. Hager was a daughter of
the late Tommy Sherrill and Nell Armstrong Wilson.
She retired from Burlington Mills in 1998 after
34 years and was a member of Southside Baptist Church, BMW Mission Group and Joy
Sunday School Class.
Husband Lonnie Ray Hager and son Terry Hager
preceded her in death.

Eugene Leslie Hill
Eugene Leslie Hill, 86, 615 W. Fisher St., died
Monday (Aug. 6, 2001) at Brightmoor Nursing Center.
Born Sept. 22, 1914, in Cumberland Gap, Tenn.,
Mr. Hill was a son of the late John Emory and Lucy Eversole Hill.
Educated in the Cumberland Gap, Tenn., schools
and the Civilian Conservation Corps, he was a civil engineer with the Manhattan
Project at Oak Ridge, Tenn., and later worked for Union Carbide for 27 years.
Mr. Hill served in the Marine Corps in World War
II and was a member of the Oak Ridge, Tenn., congregation of Jehovah’s
Witnesses, and the Oak Ridge Jaycees.
Wife Imogene Ledger Hill died on Jan. 21, 1999,
and daughter Mildred Stookesburry died in 1995.
Survivors include sons Leslie Ray Hill, Surfside
Beach, S.C., James Edward Hill, La Follette, Tenn., and Amel Lee Hill,
Mooresville; daughter Peggy Ann Fracker, Orlando, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren.
Services: A memorial service will be conducted

daughter of the late James Sylvester and Frances Lillian VanPelt Long.
She worked for Cannon Mills Plant 1, No. 5 spool
room, retiring in 1971 after 50 years. She was an active member of Kimball
Memorial Lutheran Church.

Born in Blacksburg, S.C., Mrs. Suddeth was a
daughter of the late Preston and Elizabeth Dempsey Wilson. She was a homemaker
and member of North Pacolet Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husband Esley Lee
Suddeth, daughter Evelyn S. Lane and son John Preston “Jack” Suddeth.
