Clayburn Andrews

WINTER PARK, Fla. — The Rev. Clayburn M. Andrews, 85, Albert Lee Parkway, died Saturday (Aug. 4, 2001).

Born in Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. Andrews was a minister and a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene, Apopka, Fla., and the Nazarene World Missionary Society.

Survivors include sons Ken and Duane Andrews, both of Salisbury, N.C., and Bob Andrews, Tennessee; daughter Maxine Smith, Orlando; brother Ray Andrews, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Calvary Church of the Nazarene, Apopka, conducted by the Rev. Jim Page.

Visitation: 5-8 tonight, Loomis Funeral Home Chapel, Apopka.

Ellene Burke Barnes

CHINAGROVE — Ellene Burke Barnes, 76, China Grove, died Saturday (Aug. 4, 2001), at her home.

Born Aug. 19, 1924, in Alexander County, Mrs. Burke was a daughter of the late Luda Burgess Burke and Hayden Burke Jr. She graduated from Taylorsville High School and retired from Mountain Rest Home, where she was a supervisor and activities director.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Taylorsville.

Survivors include son Richard Hayden Robinette, Charlotte; daughters Ann Barnes White, China Grove, and Kay Barlow, Salisbury; brother James D. Burke, Statesville; sister Mary Neil Little, Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside 2 p.m. today, Taylorsville Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Wade Easom. The body will be cremated. Evergreen Cremation Services in charge.

Visitation: None.

Alice Riley Dellinger

Alice Riley Dellinger, 89, Salisbury, died Sunday (Aug. 5, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Mildred Hardy

KANNAPOLIS — Mildred Wyatt Hardy, 68, 433 Oak Ave., died Sunday (Aug. 5, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born April 15, 1933, in Kannapolis, Mrs. Hardy was a daughter of the late William Wilson and Iola Link Wyatt. She retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills Plant 1.

Husband David Monroe Hardy Sr. preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters Leslie Cline, Salisbury, and Diane Canady, New Ellenton, S.C.; son David Hardy, Kannapolis; brothers Norris K. Wyatt, Kannapolis, and Eugene R. Wyatt, Philadelphia, Pa.; sisters Joyce Wyatt Bowlin and Lorene Wyatt Hooper, both of Kannapolis; and four grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert D. Howard. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Lee Frank Morgan

Lee Frank Morgan, 74, 525 Stoner Morgan Road, died Sunday (Aug. 5, 2001) at his home after two months of serious illness.

Born Dec. 6, 1926, in Salisbury, Mr. Morgan was a son of the late Leroy and Theola House Morgan. A graduate of Dunbar High School, he received his Realtor’s license from Davidson County Community College. He was a self-employed carpenter, brick mason and cement finisher.

A lifetime member of Yadkin Grove Baptist Church, he was a member for 62 years and served as church janitor, bus driver, Sunday school teacher, senior choir member, trustee and ordained deacon, including chairman for 18 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army and a Shriner, he was a member of J.C. Price American Legion Post 107 and Eureka Scottish Rite Lodge 45.

Survivors include wife Sue Hoover Morgan; daughter Suzette Bailey, Salisbury; sister Lorraine Strawder, Granite Quarry; and a grandchild.

Services: 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev Joseph Parks. Burial, National Cemetery Annex, Hefner VA Medical Center, with military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 11:15-11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

Charlie Allen Owens

LEXINGTON — Charlie Allen Owens, 73, 1576 Tyro School Road, Tyro community, died Saturday (Aug. 4, 2001) at his home.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Lakeview Baptist Church.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Rosemary “Sisie” Blevins, 4606 Giles Road, in the Tyro community.

 

‘Jo’ Sonnet

CONCORD — Annie Laura “Jo” Plyler Sonnet, 501 Cold Springs Road, died Sunday (Aug. 5, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Velma B. Weaver

LINWOOD — Velma B. Weaver, 70, Linwood, died Monday (Aug. 6, 2001) at her home.
