Tony Anthony
MOCKSVILLE — Goldman N. “Tony” Anthony, 62, of 498 Duke Whitaker Road, died Thursday (Aug. 2, 2001).
Mr. Anthony was retired from the U.S. Army.
Survivors include wife, Ruth Snow Anthony, step-daughter Angelia Swaim, step-sons Sammy Phillips, Ricky Hubbard and Scott Hubbard, father Guy Anthony, sister Dena Griffin, brother Billy J. Anthony and four step-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. today at the chapel at the Hefner VA Medical Center. Arrangements are being made by the memorial chapel.
Arthur L. Carey
LEXINGTON — Arthur Lawrence Carey, 82, of S. N.C. Highway 150, died Friday (Aug. 3, 2001) in Lexington Memorial Hospital after declining in health for several months.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at National Cemetery, led by a chaplin. Burial at the cemetery with military rites by the Rowan Veteran Council.
Visitation: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel and other times at the home.
Karr Earnhardt
Karr Woodson Earnhardt, 84, of 4340 Stokes Ferry Road, died Thursday (Aug. 2, 2001) at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte after an extended period of declining health.
Born April 24, 1917, in Rowan County to the late Samuel Council and Fannie Lee Poole Earnhardt, he was educated in Rowan County schools.
Mr. Earnhardt was employed for 44 years for Harris Granite Co., Collins Granite Co. and Matthews Co. He was a member of Dunn’s Mountain Baptist Church.
His wife Frances Leonard Earnhardt preceded him in death Feb. 20, 1979.
Survivors include step-daughter Peggy D. Earnhardt of Salisbury, brothers James Earl and J.W. Earnhardt, all of Salisbury, sisters Doris E. Spry and Kate Oddie, both of Salisbury, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Sunday at Summersett Memorial Chapel, led by Dr. Donald Godfrey, minister of Dunn’s Mountain Baptist Church. Burial at Rowan Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Alton A. Graham
HARMONY — Alton Alexander Graham, 88, Harmony, died Thursday (Aug. 2, 2001) at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Statesville, following a period of declining health.
Born June 22, 1913, in Iredell County, Mr. Graham was a son of the late James Sharpe and Bella Turner Gaither. He was a farmer who retired from FCX in Statesville and was a member of Piney Grove AME Zion Church.
Survivors include wife Mary Gray Gaither; sons Horace A. Gaither, Harmony, Alton Gaither II, Mount Airy, James Gaither, Maiden, Earl N. Gaither, High Point, and Carl C. Gaither, Mocksville; daughters, Edith Dobbins, Mary “Poochie” Templeton and Teresa Goode, all of Harmony, and Alma Reid, Troutman; 24 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. today, Piney Grove AME Zion Church. The body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Burial, church cemetery.

MOORESVILLE — Connie P. Goans died Thursday (Aug. 2, 2001) after a sudden illness.
Service: Private burial Monday followed by a celebration of her life at 1 p.m. at Myers Park Baptist Church in Charlotte.
Visitation: Immediately following the service Monday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cavin-Cook funeral home.

Carl Ingram
CHINA GROVE — Carl Lee Ingram, 63, of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of China Grove, died Thursday (Aug. 2, 2001) in Texas.
Born Jan. 17, 1938, in Rowan County, he is the son of the late Myrtle Arant and Daniel Gaither Ingram.
Mr. Ingram was educated in Rowan County, was an electrician and member of the Pine Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons Carl L. Ingram of Tennessee and Terry D. Ingram of Salisbury, daughters Sarah I. Bickish of China Grove and Carla I. Swinson of Salisbury, sister Bess I. Dellinger of Charlotte and 16 grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at West Lawn Memorial Park, led by the Rev. Buddy Hoffner. Burial at the park.
Visitation: 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Sarah I. Bickish, 427 Cove Lane.

LEXINGTON — Louise Everhardt Kivett, 72, of Golden Age Nursing Home, formerly of Hillside Drive, died Friday (Aug. 3, 2001) at the nursing home.
Service: 4 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel, led by the Rev. Jill Alventosa-Brown. Burial at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Visitation: 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
John M. McLain
KANNAPOLIS — John Marvin McLain, 92, formerly of 905 East 13th St., died Friday (Aug. 3, 2001) at Brian Center in Concord after declining health for two weeks.
Born May 29, 1909, in Alexander County, he was a son of the late Walter and Hattie Lackey McLain. He was employed by Cannon Mills Plant No. 1 in the No. 1 weave room for 40 years, retiring in 1971.
He was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, choir member, Sunday school teacher and was active in other phases of church activities since 1931. Mr. McLain was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served with the Seabees in the Construction Battalion.
He was a resident of Kannapolis most his life.
Mr. McLain is preceded in death by wife Lillian Suther McLain who died Aug. 21, 1985.
Survivors include son John Sandie McLain of Kannapolis, daughter Becky McLain Reid of Kannapolis, half-sister Ruth Lackey of Bennettsville, S.C., three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Service: 4 p.m. Sunday at North Kannapolis Baptist Church, led by the Rev. David Myers and the Rev. Coy Privette. Burial at Carolina Memorial Park

Eva Moore
Eva White Moore, 94, of 625 W. Bank St., died Wednesday (Aug. 1, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Calvary Baptist Church, led by the Rev. Leamon E. Brown, pastor. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation: 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. There will be no viewing at the funeral home.

Leroy Reese
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Leroy Reese, 63, Brooklyn, NY, died unexpectedly Thursday (Aug. 2, 2001) at the Interfaith Medical Center.
Born July 8, 1938, in Salisbury to the late Ed and Nathalee Byrdine Reese. He graduated from J.C. Price High School and Livingstone College.
He was a counselor for black veterans for social justice, former member of Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ and Veteran of the U.S. Army and Army National Guard.
He was preceded in death by brother James “Pete” Reese
Survivors include brother Robert L. Reese of Salisbury and sister Maggie Reese Witherspoon of New Jersey.

Trenton Runyon
FAITH — Trenton Lee Runyon, 2-months-old, died Thursday (Aug. 2, 2001) at his family’s residence.
Born May 23 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of Roseanna Lea Runyon and Terry Lee Harris Jr.
Survivors include grandparents Franklin and Freda Runyon of Faith, Sherry L. Harris of China Grove and Michael L. Watts of China Grove; great-grandparents Ada Jacobs of Scarboro, W.Va., Frank Runyon of Flint, Mich., Spencer and Joyce Hall of China Grove and Charles and Ella Corner of Mt. Hope, W.Va.; and sister Hailey Moore of China Grove.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, led by the Rev. Dallas Bennett, pastor of Eastwood Baptist Church.
