Ruby Prevette Cross

LEXINGTON — Ruby Ruth Prevette Cross, 67, 104 W. Eighth Ave., died Wednesday (Aug. 1, 2001) at her home.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Lexington City Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Eighth Avenue.

Memorials: Family Services of Davidson County, 235 E. Center St., Lexington, NC 27292.

 

Wanda Martin George

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Friday for Wanda Martin George, 51, 345 Brown Road, who died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born April 27, 1950, in Iredell County, Mrs. George was a daughter of Max M. and Rosa Lee Brotherton Martin, China Grove. She was a graduate of South Rowan High School and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

A transportation freight broker for Robert Bare &Associates, she was a member of Women of American Bowling Congress.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband Andres “Andy” George; daughters Angela Catherine Reeves, Lexington, and Jennifer Cannon Dowell, Woodleaf; stepsons Juan George and Charles Dickson, both of Atlanta, Ga.; stepdaughters Ivonne Shay and Barbara Hopper, both of Spencer; brothers Tommy and Douglas Martin, both of China Grove; and three stepgrandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. David Little. Burial, West Lawn Memorial park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Max and Rosa Martin, 220 Brown Road.

Eva White Moore

Eva White Moore, 94, 625 W. Bank St., died Wednesday (Aug. 1, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, after several months of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.

Born July 21, 1907, in Charlotte, Mrs. Moore, a daughter of the late Eli and Rachel Branch White, was educated in the Charlotte and Rock Hill, S.C., schools. She was a domestic worker.

A member of First Calvary Baptist Church for more than 60 years, she was a member of Dorcas Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Unit 1. She was a Royal Ambassador.

Her husband, George Moore, died in 1970.

Survivors include daughter Beatrice W. Farrow,Washington,D.C.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mitchell &Fair Funeral Service is in charge.

 

Scott Ray Ours

NEW LONDON — Scott Ray Ours, 65, 351 Pine Ridge Road, died Wednesday (Aug. 1, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home,China Grove, is in charge.

 

Dawn Summitt Powlas

CLEVELAND —The funeral will be Friday for Dawn Elizabeth Summitt Powlas, 70, Cleveland, who died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at her home after three months of serious illness.

Born March 5, 1931, in Rowan County, Mrs. Powlas, a 1950 graduate of Boyden High School, Salisbury, attended Salisbury Business College. She retired as a district secretary from Nationwide Insurance after 32 years.

A member of Lebanon Lutheran Church, she was church secretary and treasurer and was a member of LCW Circle 2 and the Joy Group. She was also a member of West Rowan Seniors.

Survivors include husband Ray Eugene Powlas, whom she married Dec. 24, 1952; son Robert Eugene Powlas, Cleveland; daughters Judy Lynn Powlas Knight, Kannapolis, and Patricia Dawn Powlas Wilhite, Cleveland; half brothers Chalk and Jimmy Tyree, both of Salisbury; and four grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Lebanon Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carroll Robinson. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home,Salisbury.

Memorials: Rowan Regional Home Health and Hospice, for Hospice House, 825-A W. Henderson St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

 

Kit Reside

LEXINGTON — Kit Reside, 50, Green Meadows, died Wednesday (Aug. 1, 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Services: Noon Monday, Davidson Funeral Home chapel. Burial, 2 p.m. Monday, National Cemetery,Salisbury. Military rites by VFW Post 3074.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.At other times, the family will be at the home in Green Meadows.

Memorials: Humane Society of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1791, Lexington,NC 27293; or donor’s choice.

 

Robert ‘Bob’ Scott

LEXINGTON — Robert “Bob” Eugene Scott, 54, Ervin Drive, died Tuesday (July 31, 2001)at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Services: The body has been cremated. No services are planned.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the home on Ervin Drive.

Davidson Funeral Home is in charge.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.
