Rosa R. Beck

LEXINGTON — Rosa Rickard Wilkerson Beck, 90, formerly of Joe Moore Road, Thomasville, died Monday (July 30, 2001) at Britthaven of Davidson, Lexington, after two years of declining health.

Graveside services were held this morning at Floral Gardens Cemetery, High Point.

Visitation: At the home of daughter Louise Beeson, 4512 Colonial Club Drive, Thomasville.

Davidson Funeral Home is in charge.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

 

Wanda George

CHINA GROVE — Wanda George, 51, 345 Brown Road, died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center,Concord.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Grose Griffin Jones

Grose Griffin Jones, 86, The Laurels of Salisbury, died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at the nursing center after several months of declining health.

Born May 26, 1915, in Lincolnton, Mr. Jones was a son of the late Arthur and Jenny Macbee Jones. He was educated in the Lincoln and Rowan county schools and was a graduate of Price High School.

Formerly employed with Southern Railway, he retired as a baseball attendant for the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a Jehovah’s Witness.

Survivors include sister Patricia Burch, Lincolnton.

Mitchell and Fair Funeral Service is in charge.

 

Alma F. Owens

LEXINGTON — Alma F. Owens, 91, formerly of Giles Road, died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at Golden Age Nursing Home.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, No Creek Primitive Baptist Church, near the Fork community in Davie County.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of son Edwin Owens, 2233 Giles Road.

 

Dawn Summitt Powlas

CLEVELAND — Dawn Summitt Powlas, 70, Cleveland, died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at her home.

Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Johnny L. Rogers

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Johnny Lee Rogers, 51, 1090 Ebenezer Road, who died Thursday (July 26, 2001) at his home.

Born July 3, 1950, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Rogers was a son of Eveleen Ashby, Kannapolis, and the late John Leonard Rogers.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include daughters Melissa Rogers, Rockwell, and Carolyn LaFevers, Kannapolis; son Glenn Douglas Rogers, Kannapolis; and four grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Thursday, Greenlawn Cemetery,China Grove, conducted by the Rev.Curtis Parker.

Visitation: At the cemetery after the service.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Keller Shaffer

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Thursday for Robert Keller Shaffer, 60, Rockwell, who died Monday (July 30, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, after several years of declining health.

Born Oct. 11, 1940, in Mercer County, W.Va., Mr. Shaffer was a son of the late Frank Keller and Bessie Mae Pettrey Shaffer. He was educated in Princeton, W.Va., and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Employed with Wall Rope Industries, Granite Quarry, from 1961 to 1994, he retired as a supervisor.

Survivors include wife Reba Lee McPherson Shaffer, whom he married Jan. 23, 1961; sons Robert Keller Shaffer Jr., Salisbury, and Joseph Bryan Shaffer, Elkin; daughter Kimberly Dawn Shaffer, Salisbury; brother Jerry Wayne Shaffer, Elkview, W.Va.; sisters Ruth Walker, Dundalk, Md., and Barbara Engi, Bordentown, N.J.; and six grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Powles Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Lewis Hall, pastor, Rockwell Church of God. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home.

Memorials: American Kidney Foundation, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.
