Kathleen R. Webb

ROCKWELL – Kathleen R. Webb, 84, Rockwell, died Sunday (April 29, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Gaynell Farmer Smith

KANNAPOLIS — Gaynell Elizabeth Farmer Smith, 83, 529 Annex Ave., died Sunday (April 29, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a short illness.

Born Nov. 10, 1917, in Davidson County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late James E. and Mary Connell Farmer. She was a member of West Point Baptist Church, where she worked with the youth and taught Sunday school for many years. She had retired in 1970 from Cannon Mills sewing room, where she was a towel folder.

Her husband, Carl Wilson Smith, died in 1999.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Randal D. Dockins. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

 

Lee P. Thompson Jr.

CHINA GROVE — Lee Pembleton Thompson Jr., 78, 12 Walnut St., died Sunday (April 29, 2001) at his home.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

Irene Earnhardt

CHINA GROVE — The funeral will be Tuesday for Irene Deborah Earnhardt, 81, 875 Patterson St., who died Saturday (April 28, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after several years of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.

Born April 16, 1920, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Earnhardt was a daughter of the late Uza and Jennie Overcash Earnhardt. She was a 1938 graduate of Winecoff School and a member of Center Grove Lutheran Church, Kannapolis. She had retired from Cannon Mills.

Survivors include brother Aaron Wilkie Earnhardt, Concord; and caregiver Phyllis Spry, China Grove.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Center Grove Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Zachariah Harris III. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 5-6:30 today, Lady’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis.

Rachel Troutman Kiser

KANNAPOLIS — Rachel Troutman Kiser, 84, 606 N. Poplar Ave., died Sunday (April 29, 2001) at Universal Health Care, Concord.

Born Jan. 14, 1917, in Rowan County, Mrs. Kiser was a daughter of the late Nat Alexander and Martha Emma Taylor Troutman. She had retired due to ill health from CannonMills Co., Plant 1, washcloth department.

Her husband, James L. Kiser, died March 25, 1999.

Survivors include sons James L. Kiser Jr., Trinity, and Terry Kiser, Kannapolis; brothers Hubert G.Troutman, North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Harry A. Troutman, Rockwell, Raney E. Troutman, Landis, and Ralph Troutman, Peachland, S.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Billy Rintz. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of son Terry Kiser, 2410 Westminister Drive, Concord.

Walter Robert Russell

KANNAPOLIS — Walter Robert Russell, 85, 5041 Wig St., died Saturday (April 28, 2001) at his home.

Born Feb. 29, 1916, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Russell was a son of the late James and Willie Torrence Russell. He had retired from Cannon Mills. He was a member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Happy Land Singers.

Survivors include wife Willie Mae McCleave Russell; sisters Octie Russell, Margaret Hamrick, Mary Russell Davis and Earlene Russell Alexander, all of Kannapolis; and brothers Hubert and Harry Russell, both of Kannapolis, and Lloyd Russell, Greensboro.

Services: 3 p.m., Wednesday, Bethpage Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Alexander Porter. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Clark Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

 

James Lee ‘Jim’ Webb

The funeral will be Wednesday for James Lee “Jim” Webb, 48, Salisbury, who died Saturday (April 28, 2001) at Mariner’s Hospital, Key Largo, Fla., while on a scuba diving trip.

Born June 15, 1952, in Rowan County, Mr. Webb was a son of William Thomas and Dorothy Witherspoon Webb of Salisbury. He was a 1971 graduate of East Rowan High School. Employed by Pepsi Bottling Co., Winston-Salem, he had formerly worked for Abex/Federal Mogul for 17 years.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he was active in the Adult Sunday School Class and the Men’s Choir. An usher, he had also served on the church council and the property committee.

A member of Hickory Hill Hunting Club, he coached for the East Rowan Little League for several years. He was a PADIcertified diver.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Jane Lowery Webb, whom he married July 20, 1974; son Joshua L.Webb, of the home; daughter Jancie L. Webb, of the home; brother Paul Webb, Salisbury; and sisters Pat W. Sledge, Lexington, and Mary W. Taylor, Cleveland.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. William S. Ketchie. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home, and 1-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of his parents.

Memorials: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul’s Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

 

Eva Lambert Wilson

MOORESVILLE — Eva Lambert Wilson, 89, Sinclair Lane, died Saturday (April 28, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Burial, Fair View United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
