CHINA GROVE — The Town Council will consider relaxing the mandatory water restrictions during its meeting Tuesday night.
Earlier this month, Landis, which supplies water to China Grove, relaxed its restrictions. Landis residents can now water lawns and gardens two days per week.
The council will also consider participating in a county-backed water line that could prevent future shortages. Salisbury would extend its lines southward and sell water.
Both China Grove and Landis have been asked by Rowan County officials to make a decision on participating in the project by mid-May. The overall project is expected to cost around $7 million, with the county paying the major share.
China Grove’s projected cost for the first phase of the project is estimated at $348,000. The town would have to buy at least 300,000 gallons daily from Salisbury. The second phase is projected to cost $371,000 and would provide China Grove with a capacity of 2 million gallons daily.
Other items on the agenda:
- Benchmark planners will make a presentation on a proposed annexation.
- Police Chief Michael Bentley will discuss requested policy changes.
- The board will study a budget amendment and will consider giving the town manager the authority to sign checks.
- Public comment is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
The council meets at 7 p.m. at 205 Swink St.
