KANNAPOLIS — Fire damaged a house after a Kannapolis man left his grill burning on the front porch.
The Kannapolis Fire Department was called to 706 Sloop Ave. at 4:10 p.m. Saturday. Assistant Chief Danny Scott said the fire began after homeowner Craig Brown left a propane grill burning on the porch. It ignited vinyl siding and caused between $10,000 and $15,000 in damage.
Another weekend fire partially damaged a double-wide mobile home at 6575 Charlie Walker Road, just outside of Kannapolis. Reported at 1:37 a.m. Sunday morning, that fire caused about $3,000 in damage, the Cabarrus County fire marshal’s office reported. A smoke detector alerted the four family members living in the rental property, and a bystander helped get a 6-year-old child out of the house safely.
Helen Lewis owns the rental property. The fire marshal’s office declined to release names of the family until the fire’s cause is determined.
