Salisbury, who died Tuesday (April 24, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center.
Dr. Ronnie Simpson and the Rev.
Johnny Morton officiated at the 2 p.m. service at Brightlight Baptist Church.
Burial was at Stanly Memorial Gardens, Albemarle.

Vera Faggart
KANNAPOLIS — Vera Pence Faggart,
96, 205 E. C St., died Thursday (April 26, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center in
Concord.
Born June 24, 1904, in Salisbury,
she was the daughter of the late James Henry and Sarah Bernhardt Pence. A
retired seamstress and dress designer, she worked for many years in the sewing
room at Cannon Mills.
She was a member of Trinity
United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Exodus Sunday School Class
and the Wesley Fellowship. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club at
the YMCA. During World War II, she was a member of the War Mothers Club.
Her husband, William Dixon
Faggart, died April 30, 1993.
Survivors include daughter Doris
Faggart Gillon of Kannapolis; sons the Rev. William Harold Faggart of New London
and Melvin Faggart of Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. today at Trinity
United Methodist Church, led by the Rev. Don Shuman and Sarah Weaver. Burial in
Carolina Memorial Park.

James F. ‘Jim’ Glenn
KANNAPOLIS — James F. “Jim”
Glenn, 85, Kannapolis, died Friday (April 27, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center
in Concord from injuries sustained in a fall.
Born Oct. 8, 1915, in Madison
County, Ga., he was the son of the late James E. and Willie Kidd Glenn. In his
early years, Mr. Glenn owned and operated Midway Shell in Kannapolis. He had
worked for several area service stations over the years. He retired in 1990 from
NAPA Auto Parts.
He was one of five organizing
members of Shadybrook Baptist Church, where he was active with the RAs. He also
served as church historian and was a former Sunday school teacher. He was also a
member of the Cabarrus Rescue Squad.
His wife, Katherine C. Glenn,
died in July 1977.
Survivors include daughter Brenda
G. Sloop, Concord; five grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Annie Brown Butler. She
was educated in the Greenwood County schools. Retired from Stayon Manufacturing
Co., she had also worked in the cafeteria at West Rowan High School. She was a
member of Thyatira Presbyterian Church, where she was active with the Women of
the Church.

Litaker; son Wayne Litaker of Ellenboro; daughters Diane L. Tilson of Boone and
Carol L. King of Salisbury; sisters Jesse Mae Price, Christine White and Sandra

Clifton ‘Tip’ Miller
SPENCER — Clifton “Tip”
Wilson Miller, 86, Spencer, died Thursday (April 26, 2001) at his home after
three weeks of illness.
Born in Rowan County on May 28,
1914, he was the son of the late Readie Lemley and Charles Max Miller. He was
educated in the Rowan County schools. Mr. Miller worked for Southern Railway and
Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co.
He was a member of Calvary
Lutheran Church, where was active with the Senior Men’s Bible Class. President
of the Lutheran Men in Mission, he served on the church council and represented
the church on the Spencer Community Council.
Mr. Miller was a member of the
Life Underwriters Association, Spencer Masonic Lodge, York Rite Bodies, Oasis
Temple, Rowan Shrine Club, Spencer Civitan Club and the Spencer Order of the
Eastern Star. He was a charter member of the Spencer Moose Lodge and a lifetime
member of the Spencer Lions Club.
He did volunteer work with the
N.C. Transportation Museum, Spencer Care Community, Meals on Wheels and the
Rowan Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. He received the Mayor’s Appreciation
Award for his service to the community and was named an Outstanding Senior
Citizen by the Spencer Jaycees.
Mr. Miller served as grand
marshal for the SteamFest Parade.
His wife, Hazel Mae Beaver,
preceded him in death.
Survivors include son Charles
Robert “Bob” Miller, Salisbury; daughter Sylvia Bailey, Salisbury; brothers
Charles Max Miller Jr. and Grover C. Miller, both of Salisbury; sisters Mary
Helen McCoy, Ruth M. Shuping and Sara Jo Teague, all of Salisbury; four
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Clement Hill McCombs, 58,
formerly of 701 W. Horah St., died Wednesday (April 25, 2001) at Autumn Care of
Salisbury after 10 years of declining health.
Born Oct. 20, 1942, in Salisbury,
he was the son of Mildred Hill McCombs Rucker of East Spencer and the late
Abraham McCombs. A 1961graduate of Price High School, he also attended
Livingstone College.
He was formerly employed by Fiber
Industries and the N.C. Department of Transportation, where he was a
construction foreman. He was a member of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church,
where he served as an usher.

Sharyne McCombs Black, Bowie, Md.; brother Eugene McCombs, Washington, D.C.; and
two grandchildren.

Sherrill, 82, 109 E. 31st St., died Friday (April 27, 2001) at Rowan Regional
Medical Center, Salisbury, after two days of illness.
Born Oct. 28, 1918, in Cabarrus
County, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice Kimball Johnson.
Educated in the public schools of Mecklenburg County, she had retired from
Cannon Mills.
She was a member of Columbus
Chapel AME Zion Church in Davidson, where she was a member of the stewardess
board, the board of trustees, the deaconess board and the Women’s Home and
Overseas Mission. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Bennett L.
Johnson American Legion Post 413 and the China Grove Nutrition Site.
Her husband, Willie Sherrill,
died April 14, 1993.
Survivors include stepdaughter,
Elizabeth Smith, Washington, D.C.; brother Charlie Johnson, Charlotte; seven
grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
