James ‘Butch’ Grubb Jr.

TARRANT, Ga. — Private services will be held in Salisbury, N.C., for James A. “Butch” Grubb Jr., 49, Tarrant, formerly of Salisbury, who died Wednesday (April 25, 2001) at Cooper-Green Hospital, Birmingham, after a brief illness.

Born June 16, 1951, in Salisbury, N.C., Mr. Grubb was a son of the late James A. and Lois Hartley Grubb.

Survivors include Melodye Grubb, Tarrant; Steve and Ardith Grubb Hinson, Gold Hill, N.C.; and James Bryce Grubb Fuller, Mount Holly, N.C.

John’s-Ridout’s Mortuary, Birmingham, is in charge.

‘Dickie’ Jones

LEXINGTON — Frank Howard “Dickie” Jones Jr., 55, Green Meadows Drive, died Thursday (April 26, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after a year of illness.

Services: 4 p.m. Saturday, Davidson Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Green Meadows Drive.

Teresa D. Kennerly

MOUNT ULLA — Teresa Donahue Kennerly, 37, 1240 Belk Road, died Thursday (April 26, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born June 13, 1963, in Iredell County, Mrs. Kennerly was the daughter of Linda Whitaker, Mocksville, and Doyle Donahue, Kannapolis. She was a homemaker.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband Ronald Kennerly; brother Darrell Donahue, Old Town, Maine; stepparents C.L. Whitaker, Mocksville, and Myra Donahue, Kannapolis; half sisters Wendy Garner, Cornelius, Daphne Toppas and Debra Smith, both of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Donna Cornatzer, Advance; and half brothers Johnny Poplin, High Point, and Monte and Ronnie Whitaker, both of Mocksville.

Services: 4 p.m. Saturday, Centenary United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Champion and the Rev. John Cole. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Neill Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

 

Ruth Lanning Leonard

LEXINGTON — Ruth Mae Lanning Leonard, 95, 230 Allen Yountz Lane, died Thursday (April 26, 2001).

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Arcadia Church of Christ.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Allen Yountz Lane.

CHINA GROVE — Helen Litaker, 1855 Brown Road, died Friday (April 27, 2001) at her home.

Susan Gill Miller

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Saturday for Susan Cheryl Gill Miller, 49, 1306 Holshouser Road, who died Wednesday (April 25, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Sept. 23, 1951, in Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Miller was a daughter of William and Geneva Landis Gill, Brownsville, Texas. A homemaker, she was educated in the Michigan schools.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband Marvin Lee Miller; and sisters Peggy Avalos, Brownsville, Texas, and Carol Miller, Baton Rouge, La.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, West Park Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Carver and the Rev. Larry Bolick. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home on Holshouser Road.

 

Clifton Wilson Miller

SPENCER — Clifton Wilson Miller, 86, Spencer, died Thursday (April 26, 2001) at his home.

Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Telatha Blair Minter

The funeral will be Sunday for Telatha Blair Minter, 59, 301 Clancy St., who died Monday (April 23, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two weeks of illness.

Born Oct. 30, 1941, in East Spencer, Mrs. Minter, a daughter of the late Robert and Bessie Barber Blair, was a 1961 graduate of Dunbar High School, East Spencer. She was last employed at Young and Hinkle Furniture Plant, Lexington.

Survivors include husband John A. Minter; son Timothy J. Minter, Woodleaf; daughters Pamela M. and Sharon D. Minter, both of Salisbury; brother Robert Blair; and sisters Janet B. McNeely, East Spencer, and Sandra Faye Bellamy, Lexington.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Charles Jacobs Jr., pastor, Yadkin Grove Baptist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

 

William ‘Jake’ Morgan

The funeral will be Saturday for William Junior “Jake”Morgan, 58, Salisbury, died Wednesday (April 25, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born July 13, 1942, in Rowan County, Mr. Morgan was a son of the late Jake and Nellie Ludwick Morgan. He was a 1961 graduate of East Rowan High School.

A certified welder for 35 years, he worked for Miller Equipment for 18 years; at Southern Engineering, Charlotte, for 10 years; and was presently employed at Morton Metalcraft Industries, Welcome. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include wife Alma Morgan, whom he married July 5, 1964; son Sankey Morgan, Salisbury; daughters Jean and Maxine Morgan, both of Salisbury; and two grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Lyerly Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. John Jones and the Rev. Dale Eagle. Burial,Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home.

 

Nathan William Noor

LEXINGTON — Nathan William Noor, 13, Ronald Avenue, died Thursday (April 26, 2001) at his home after a year of serious illness.

Services: Mass of Resurrection, 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. Albert Gondek and the Rev. Joseph Keheller. Burial, St. Timothy Episcopal Church, Winston-Salem.

Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Davidson Funeral Home.

Thelma R. Solomon

CHINA GROVE — Thelma Rinehardt Solomon, 88, 914 S. Main St., formerly of Mooresville, died Wednesday (April 25, 2001) at her home.

Born Sept. 16, 1912, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Solomon was a daughter of the late Durand and Rosa Porter Staley. She was a homemaker.

Her first husband, Coyte Rinehardt, died in 1979; her second husband, Clyburn Solomon, died in 1996; and a daughter, Shirley R. Stutts, died in 2001.

Survivors include stepson James Solomon, China Grove; daughters Linda Waddell, Woodleaf, and Frankie Dean Johnson, Lake Wylie, S.C.; brothers Harvey Staley, Great Falls, S.C., and James Staley, Sparta; sister Ethel Amo, Melborne, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, South China Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Derald Adams. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville.

Visitation: 6-7:30 tonight, Neill Funeral Home, Mooresville.

 

Forest Arthur Stoner

The funeral will be Saturday for Forest Arthur Stoner, 83, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (April l 25, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born Aug. 17, 1917, in Rowan County, Mr. Stoner, a son of the late Peter Thomas and Regina Kesler Stoner, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He retired after 61 years as a salesman with Rusher Tire.

He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, where he had formerly been a choir member, a council member, a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent.

A fireman, he was on the board of directors with Union Volunteer Fire Department. In 1975, he was named fireman of the year.

Survivors include wife Virginia Lyerly Stoner, whom he married Dec. 1, 1934; son Gene Stoner, Salisbury; daughter Vivian Sprinkle, Salisbury; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m.Saturday, St. Matthews Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Jeffcoat. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 9275 Brinkle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

 

Shyana S. Thompson

ALBEMARLE — Shyana Skie Thompson, infant daughter of Dustin Allen Thompson and Starr Melody Whitley, Albemarle, died Thursday (April 26, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Saturday, Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: None.
