Anne Link Barnhardt

The funeral will be Wednesday for Anne Link Barnhardt, 70, Salisbury, who died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at the home of a daughter. She had been in declining health for two months.

Born March 29, 1931, in Rowan County, Mrs. Barnhardt, a daughter of the late Robert R. and Pearl Breedlove Link, was educated in the Salisbury city schools. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, William Donald Barnhardt, died Oct. 14, 1983.

Survivors include daughters Patricia B. Jordan and Terri B. Reeves, both of Salisbury, and Cindy B. Eddleman and Cathy L. McCarthy, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; brother Alton R. “Sonny” Link, Salisbury; sisters Evelyn L. Jarrett, Salisbury, Barbara L. Evans, Prestview, Fla., and Gail L. Redman,Cleveland; and nine grandchildren.

Services: The body will be cremated. Private graveside services will be held Wednesday at Rowan Memorial Park. The Rev. Kristin Lassiter, associate pastor, First United Methodist Church, China Grove, will officiate.

Visitation: None.

LEXINGTON — Harold Berrier, 80, 1169 Becky Hill Road, died Sunday (April 22 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Services: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sheets Memorial Baptist Church. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Becky Hill Road.

Mollie J.M. Cannon

KANNAPOLIS — Mollie James Martin Cannon, 89, 609 Old Centergrove Road, died Monday (April 23, 2001) at her home.

Frank ‘Buddy’ Elliott

GRANITE QUARRY — The funeral will be Wednesday for Frank “Buddy” Vernon Elliott, 71, Granite Quarry, who died Friday (April 20, 2001) at his home.

BornJuly 11, 1929, in Rowan County, Mr. Elliott, a son of the late Odel and Grace Condrey Elliott Christie, was a graduate of Boyden High School, Salisbury.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed as a deputy sheriff in Williamsburg, Va., for 25 years. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Survivors include an uncle and two aunts.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Shiloh United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Hoyle, former pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30-2 p.m. Wed-nesday at the church.

Robert Propst, 68, Salisbury, died Tuesday (April 24, 2001) at his home.

Beulah ‘Mammie’ Scott

MOCKSVILLE — Beulah “Mammie” Scott, 99, 181 Angel Road, died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at her home after a short illness.

A Davie County native, Mrs. Scott was a homemaker.

Her husband, John Arthur Scott, died in 1982. Four sons also preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons John C., Clyde E. , James N. and Dwight Scott, all of Mocksville; daughters Helen L. Scott, Winston-Salem, and Shirley S. Steele, Mocksville; sisters Ira Ijames, Mocksville, and Alberta Foster, Long Island, N.Y.; 36 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Graham Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Wilford Bailey. Burial, Mainville AMEZion Church cemetery.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The body may also be viewed Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

 

Ralph ‘Buddy’ Stoner

The funeral will be Wednesday for Ralph Eugene “Buddy” Stoner, 61, Salisbury, who died Monday (April 23, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after four years of declining health and three weeks of serious illness.

Born Jan. 25, 1940, in Rowan County, Mr. Stoner was a son of the late John David and Anna Kesler Stoner. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.

He retired in 1997 after 20 years from Fieldcrest Cannon Swink Plant, where he was a weaver. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.

Survivors include wife Barbara Drye Stoner, whom he married July 1, 1962; daughters Pam Bollinger, Salisbury, and Penny Hall, China Grove; brothers Harold and Ned Stoner, both of Salisbury; sisters Pearl Poole, Gold Hill, and Daisy Fesperman and Dot Stoner, both of Rockwell; two grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Services:4 p.m. Wednesday, Liberty United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mark Helms, pastor, and the Rev. Curtis Davis, pastor, Westside Baptist Church, Kannapolis. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

CHINA GROVE — Edna Reynolds Tutherow, 93, 260 Cherry St., died Monday (April 23, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Robert Maxwell West

MOUNT ULLA — Robert Maxwell West, 88, Centenary Church Road, died Monday (April 23, 2001) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

BornJan. 30, 1913, in Mount Ulla, Mr. West was a son of the late Robert Nathan and Mary Louella Hoover West. He was a graduate of Mount Ulla High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1939-1946 in Burma, China, India and South Africa.

For many years he worked for B.W. Stutts Construction Co. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Pyatt West, and a son, Curt Warfield West.

Survivors include son Leonard Maxwell West, Salisbury; daughter Gail Elizabeth West, Mount Ulla; brother William W. West, Mount Ulla; and sister Jennie W. Woods, Salisbury.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Centenary United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Champion. Burial, church cemetery.

Misty Lynn Gordon

ALBEMARLE — Misty Lynn Gordon, 17, 16362 Canyon Court, died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Annunciation Catholic Church.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the Canyon Court home of her aunt and uncle, Betty and Norman Lester Jr., with whom she made her home.

 

Lillie Mills Laney

KANNAPOLIS — Lillie Mills Laney, 89, Kannapolis, died Monday (April 23, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Sept. 15, 1911, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mrs. Laney was a daughter of the late Gus and Roxie Jordan Mills. She retired in 1972 after 45 years fromCannon Mills Co. Plant 4 weave room.

She was preceded in death by husband Charles W. Laney in 1970; a daughter,Leo Starnes; and sons Charles, Ralph and John Laney.

Survivors include son Douglas B. Laney,Kannapolis; daughters Nancy M. Benton,Bethune, S.C., and Joyce L. Gainey and Patsy L. Hartsell, both of Kannapolis; 26 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday,Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Sam Whittington. Burial, Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove.

NellKendrick Nance, 70, Salisbury, died Monday (April 23, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

James Thurlen Pruitt

James Thurlen Pruitt, 63, 3515 Hickory Place, died Saturday (April 21, 2001) at his home after an extended illness.

Born Nov. 18, 1937, in Davie County, Mr. Pruitt, a son of the late Thurlen and Katherine Harrison Pruitt, was a graduate of the Davie County schools.

He was employed by HBD Industries and was a member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Constance Claybrooks Pruitt; daughters Belinda Vaughters, Salisbury, Tchaundia Pruitt, Manassas, Va., and LaFreda Pruitt, of the home; brother Fred Pruitt, Sacramento, Calif.; sisters Doris Manigault, Greensboro, and Katrina Walker, Salisbury; and two grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James L. Stowe. Burial,Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2:30-3 p.m. Thursday at the church.
