Nora Smith Harris

MOORESVILLE — Nora Smith Harris, 81, Mooresville, died Sunday (April 22, 2001).

Services: Graveside, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Willow Valley Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Mooresville ARPChurch. The Rev. Gerald R. Huffman will officiate.

Visitation: At the church after the memorial service.

Mary Lou B. Hatley

STANFIELD — Mary Lou Brooks Hatley, 93, Love’s Chapel Road, died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at Britthaven of Piedmont, Albemarle.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Love’s Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Leslee Wray.

Visitation: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. At other times the family will be at the home of niece Jackie Furr, 575 Big Lick Road.

 

Annie Lue Jordan

KANNAPOLIS — Annie Lue Jordan, 73, 1285 W. A St., died Friday (April 20, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Dec. 15, 1927, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Daisy White. She retired from Cannon Mills Co.

Survivors include daughter Mae Willie Connor, Woodleaf; three grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Rose Hill Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Harry Gaston Jr. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 30 minutes prior to the service.

Jack Junior Loflin

The funeral will be Wednesday for Jack Junior Loflin, 74, 101 Waccamaw Drive, who died Saturday (April 21, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 19, 1927, in Salisbury, Mr. Loflin, a son of the late Jack and Beulah B. Davis Loflin, was educated in the Salisbury schools. He was employed by Cartex Mills. A veteran, he served in the U.S.Navy during World War II.

A grandson preceded him in death.

Survivors include son Eddie Loflin, Greensboro; daughters Susan Kimmer and Judy Goodman, both of Salisbury, and Paula Swinton, Jacksonville; brother Arnold Loflin, Salisbury; and nine grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Wednesday, National Cemetery, VA Medical Center. Military rites by Rowan Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home.

Debra Lee Mitchell

CLEVELAND — Debra Lee Mitchell, 44, 13945 Statesville Blvd., died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born April 29, 1956, in Washington, D.C., she was a daughter of Carol Jane Pugh of Pompano Beach, Fla., and the late Norman Barbour. She graduated from high school in 1974.

Survivors include husband Lawrence Lee Mitchell, Cleveland; sons John Arnez Jr., Michael Arnez and Tommy Craig, all of Salisbury; brothers John Barbour, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Matthew Barbour and Daniel Barbour, both of Spencer; stepmother Mona Devendorf, Spencer; and three grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. today, Summersett Funeral Home.

Ellen Overcash

Henry Ellen Overcash, 62, 1206 Gladstone Road, Lancaster, S.C., formerly of Woodleaf, died Saturday (April 21, 2001) at Springs Memorial Hospital, Lancaster.

Born Oct. 10, 1938, in Rowan County, Miss Overcash was a daughter of James R. Overcash, Lancaster, S.C., and the late Mary Barnes Overcash. She attended Second Baptist Church in Lancaster.

Survivors, in addition to her father, include sister Sylvia O. Timmons, Lancaster; and brother James R. Overcash Jr., Brentwood, Tenn.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. JimSpencer. Burial,Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Doris Lee Chalk Parker

The funeral will be Wednesday for Doris Lee Chalk Parker, 73, 1714 N. Clay St., who died Friday (April 20, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after two weeks of serious illness and several months of declining health.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Southern City Tabernacle AMEZion Church, East Spencer, conducted by the Rev. Rollins Graham. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Anne Link Barnhardt, 70, Salisbury, died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at her home.

David M. Barringer

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral is today for David Michael Barringer, 57, Manor House, Concord, formerly of Kannapolis, who died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born March 16, 1944, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Barringer was a son of the late Hiller Davis and Callie Winecoff Barringer. He was a lifelong member of Center Grove Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Sunday School Class and Lutheran Brotherhood.

Survivors include brother John D. Barringer, Kannapolis; and sisters Betty Rapp, Kannapolis, Phyllis Safrit, Concord, and Ruby Nadine Barringer, Manor House, Concord.

Services: 4 today, Center Grove Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Zach Harris III. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 3-4 today at the church.

Mary Benfield Davis

The funeral will be Tuesday for Mary Sue Benfield Davis, 59, Salisbury, who died Saturday (April 21, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after four months of serious illness.

Born June 29, 1941, in Davidson County, Mrs. Davis, a daughter of the late George Vander and Mary Lisa Roberts Benfield, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a homemaker and member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church.

Her husband, Samuel Lee Davis, died Nov. 8, 1999.

Survivors include sons Ronnie Davis and Hal Harrison, both of China Grove; daughters Charlotte Khan, Rockwell, Dana Brandt, Seattle, Wash., Teresa Butler, Albemarle, Connie Honeycutt, China Grove, Elizabeth Byerly, Thomasville, and Vickie Lomax, Spencer; brothers Jessey Benfield and Vander Benfield Jr., both of Salisbury; and 13 grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oakland Heights Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Edward Bitner. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. The body will be cremated after the service.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Charlotte Khan, 107 Red Bird Lane, Rockwell.

Esther H. Eigner

LEXINGTON — Esther Hairston Eigner, 99, 1350 Giles Road, died Friday (April 20, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Yadkin Star Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: In the church fellowship hall after the service. At other times the family will be at the home on Giles Road. The body may be viewed at Morrison-Studevent Funeral Home from 1-8 today and from 8:30 a.m.- 12 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Olean Myers Holder

The funeral will be Tuesday for Olean Myers Holder, 79, 330 W. Ridge Road, who died Saturday (April 21, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after three months of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.

Born Nov. 18, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Holder was a daughter of the late Willis Millard andBeulah Rufty Myers. She was a graduate of Cleveland High School and Salisbury Business College.

She was employed by SHKress &Company and later worked with the family business, Cross Roads Grocery. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church.

Her husband, Clarence Mastin Holder, died in December 1994.

Survivors include son Clarence “Mike” Holder Jr., Owenton, Ky.; daughters Barbara H. Sain, Bonnie Holder and Jane H. Moore, all of Salisbury; brothers Wade, Donald and Larry Myers, all of Salisbury; sisters Nancy M. Trexler, Nellie Myers, Mary M. Whitler and Betty Myers, all of Salisbury; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Enon Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Trexler, pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on West Ridge Road.

Judge M. Honeycutt

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Tuesday for Judge Marion Honeycutt, 81, 1409 Sherwood Drive, who died Saturday (April 21, 2001) at his home.

Born March 28, 1920, in Union County, Mr. Honeycutt, a son of the late Adam P. and Sarah Ann Baucom Honeycutt, was educated in the Union County schools and was a graduate of Burton College.

He was a retired insurance agent and had formerly been employed by Cannon Mills Co., Douglas Aircraft Co., Pilot Life Insurance Co., and K-Town Furniture.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, during World War II he was a sergeant in the 314th infantry, Anti-Tank Co., 79th Division in the European theatre for 13 months until he was wounded. He received the EAMET Medal with three bronze stars; Bronze Star Medal; Combat Infantry Badge; and the GoodConduct Badge. He was a member of Poston Perkins VFWPost 8989.

A Baptist, he held many positions in the church, including Sunday school superintendent, Training Union director, chairman of the deacon board and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and was a scout leader with Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include wife of 61 years Louise Simpson Honeycutt; daughter Joyce Marion Honeycutt Holman, Kannapolis; sons Larry Wayne Honeycutt, Charlotte, and Timothy Brian Honeycutt, Kannapolis; sisters Elise Fincher and Lola Honeycutt, both of Kannapolis, and Lynea Keziah, Monroe; brothers Houston and Ralph Honeycutt, both of Monroe; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Eastwood Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev.Dallas Bennett and the Rev. Victor Trivette. Burial,Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Sherwood Drive.

Rosie Medlin-Payne

MOORESVILLE — Rosie Ellen Medlin-Payne, infant daughter of Carrie Ann Payne and James Kiney Medlin Jr., died Saturday (April 21, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Services: Memorial, 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home chapel.

Visitation: 2 p.m Sunday at the funeral home.

 

Bertha Goins Ritchie

ALBEMARLE — Bertha Ann Goins Ritchie, 78, 234 N. Fifth St., died Sunday (April 22, 2001) at her home.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, Norview Gardens, Norwood.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on North Fifth Street.

 

Glenna W. Treece

GOLD HILL — Glenna Marie Wagoner Treece, 82, formerly of Gold Hill, died Saturday (April 21, 2001) at Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home after four years of declining health.

Born July 9, 1918, in Stanly County, Mrs. Treece was a daughter of the late George Frank Wagoner and Minnie Blackwelder Wagoner of Misenheimer. She was a graduate of Richfield High School and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, where she received a degree in early childhood care.

She was employed by Rowan Industries, Rockwell, and was a foster mother for the Rowan County Department of Social Services for eight years. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church for many years, where she taught Sunday school. In her later years she attended Grace Bible Church,Rockwell.

An infant son, Gary Wallace Treece, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughter Renda Treece Barrier, Salisbury; sons Troy L. Treece, Gold Hill, and Curtis A. Treece, China Grove; sister Connie Wagoner Carter, Charlotte; brother Warren H. Wagoner, Misenheimer; and five grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Grace Bible Church, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Don Lyerly and the Rev. Alan Misenheimer. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.
