Thomas L. Carrick Jr.
BADIN — Thomas Lester Carrick Jr., 54, 71 Cedar St., died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born May 16, 1946, in Stanly County, Mr. Carrick was a son of the late Oralee Huneycutt and Thomas Lester Carrick. He was a graduate of North Stanly High School and attended college in Scotland. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was employed with Guard One as a security guard.
Survivors include daughter Becky Carrick, Badin; son Mark Carrick, Badin; and sister Carol Carrick, Montgomery County.
Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Friday, National Cemetery,VA Medical Center, Salisbury.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home of friend Ted Romaine, 171 Spruce St., Badin.
John Daniel Guiton Jr.
The funeral will be Friday for John Daniel Guiton Jr., 70, 335 Rosemont Road, who died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Aug. 31, 1930, in Cumberland County, Mr. Guiton, a son of the late John Daniel and Mary Guiton, was educated in the Cumberland County schools. He retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon Mills and was of the Baptist faith.
A son, Johnny Lee Guiton, preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife Bonnie K. Brown Guiton; sons Carl W. Guiton, Advance, and John David Guiton III, Salisbury; daughters Mary Guiton Barnes, China Grove, Caroline Guiton Clonch and Kelly Guiton Robison, both of Salisbury, and Dora Guiton Lackey, Mount Ulla; stepdaughters Teresa Poplin, Faith, and Terry Cantrell, Salisbury; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Harry Hensley. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Claude Calvin Hodge
CHINA GROVE — Claude Calvin Hodge, 77, formerly of 2880 N.C. Highway 152 East, died Wednesday (April 18, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation,Salisbury.
Born June 9, 1923, in Rowan County, Mr. Hodge, a son of the late Jesse C. and Eula Ann Surratt Hodge, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He retired after 48 years from Fieldcrest Cannon Plant 1, sheet bleachery department. A T5 corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II, he served in England, France, Belgium and Germany.
A charter member of Price of Peace Lutheran Church, he was the first church treasurer, a member of the council, and treasurer of the Lutheran Brotherhood, Sunday School, Sunday School Project Fund and the Air Conditioning Fund. He was also a charter member of Bostian Heights Fire Department, where he served for 24 years. He was assistant chief for many years.
His wife, Nadine Parish Hodge, died May 11, 1994.
Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home chapel, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Maurice Staley and the Rev. Bruce Sheeks. Burial,Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Roger Lane McHone
The funeral will be Friday for Roger Lane “Mac” McHone, 67, 120 N. Oakhurst Drive, who died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at his home after a period of declining health.
Born Feb. 11, 1934, in Cabarrus County, Mr. McHone was a son of the late Plato W. Scott and Janie Elise McHone Scott. He retired in 1986 after 33 1/2 years from the U.S. Air Force. While in the service, he became a certified chef and food instructor. He served during the Korean War and in Vietnam.
After he retired from the military, he worked part-time as an armed security guard. He was a member of Salisbury Elks Lodge.
A son, Roger McHone Jr., preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife Virginia Kervin McHone; sons Michael McHone, Pompano Beach, Fla., and Bryson McHone, Salisbury; daughters Kathy Wensil and Belinda Artz, both of China Grove, and Sheila Royall, Salisbury; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services: 3:30 p.m. Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, Kannapolis. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery, Concord, with full military rites by the U.S. Air Force.

Emmer Russell Smith
NEW LONDON — Emmer Lee Russell Smith, 82, 44511 Old Whitney Road, died Thursday (April 19, 2001) at his home.
Born July 30, 1918, in Stanly County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Aaron Russell and Mary Mauldin Russell Pennington. She worked at Anchor House Seafood Restaurant, owned by her son Tony Smith of Rockwell. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearlie Asbury Smith; sons Wayne, Joe, Wade, Claude “Dobbin” and Baby Boy Smith; and a daughter, Mary Morris Smith.
Survivors, in addition to son Tony, include sons David and Robert Lee Smith, both of New London; daughters Ruby Eudy, New London, Nick Smith, Richfield, Kay Kriechbaum, Eden, and Karen Stevenson, Julian; sister Ethel Ball, Belmont; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and caregiver Jessica Harrison.
Services: 4 p.m. Saturday, Open Door Baptist Church, Richfield, conducted by the Rev. Charles Goodman. Burial, Parker Memorial Baptist Church cemetery, Richfield.
