Patricia Cureton
Patricia Ann Ramos Cureton, 58, 425 Robinson Road, died Monday (April 16, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 27, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Cureton was a daughter of the late Alberta Tanner and Niclos Ramos. Educated in the Philadelphia schools, she graduated from Kensington High School for Girls. She was a homemaker.
A member of New Hope AME Zion Church, she was an usher, treasurer of the Parent Body Missionary Society and secretary and treasurer of Class 1. She was on the Zoning Board of the town of East Spencer and was a teacher assistant at the Dunbar Center.
A son, Terry Cureton, died in 1991.
Survivors include husband Judson Cureton; sons Judson Cureton Jr. and Shelton Cureton, both of the home; brother Nicloa Joseph Ramos, Salisbury; sisters Linda Ramos, Salisbury, and Ramona Estelle Williams and Aline Jacqueline Ramos, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, New Hope AME Zion Church, conducted by the Rev. Retoy Gaston. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home.
Mitchell and Fair Funeral Service is in charge.

Roger Lane “Mac” McHone, 67, 120 N. Oakhurst Drive, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at his home.

Bessie Allen Scott
KANNAPOLIS — Bessie Mabel Allen Scott, 91, formerly of 1303 Cooper Ave., died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at Universal Health Services, Concord.
Born Aug. 12, 1909, in Madison County, Ga., Mrs. Scott was a daughter of the late George Juel and Nora Ida Lee Adams Allen. She retired from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1 sewing room in 1971. She was a member of Shadybrook Baptist Church.
Her husband, Daniel J. Scott, died Oct. 3, 1973. She was also preceded in death by son George Troy Scott.
Survivors include daughter Ida Marie Ward, Kannapolis; son Charles Roy Scott, Kannapolis; sister Dorothy Beard, Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Charlie Littlejohn and the Rev. Rick Felts. Burial, Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home of Ida Marie Scott, 1303 Cooper Ave.

Vance James Smith
OAKBORO — Vance James Smith, 72, 1056 Misty Lane, died Monday (April 16, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Smith worked for 29 years at Cannon Mills Plant 1 in Kannapolis.
Services: 4 p.m. today, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Phillip Hunter. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle. Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle is in charge.

Phyllis Dills Welch
Phyllis Dills Welch, 56, Salisbury, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born Nov. 17, 1944, in Macon County, Mrs. Welch was a daughter of Opal Evans Dills, Salisbury, and the late Fred Dills.
She was educated in Rowan County schools and at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. She worked for Cone Mills and later was employed in health care services. She was a member of Homeland Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include daughters Carla Schenk, Spencer; Renee Clements, Salisbury; and Carrie Rex of the home; brother Douglas Dills, Salisbury; sisters Freida Heitman, Salisbury, and Jo Ann Gregory, Mocksville; and three step-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Homeland Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Johnny Cook, pastor, and the Rev. Bill Roberts, associate pastor. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Lyerly Funeral Home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home of Carla Schenk.
