Harvey Lee Campbell

ADVANCE — Harvey Lee Campbell, 53, N.C. Highway 801 North, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) in the Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

Son Duone L. Campbell lives in Mocksville.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Tabernacle United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Marvin Harper. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. Graham Funeral Home, Mocksville, is in charge.

 

Akins Chastain

KANNAPOLIS — Arthur Akins Chastain, 70, 206 N. Ridge Ave., died Monday (April 16, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after eight years of declining health and six weeks of serious illness.

Born Aug. 21, 1930, in Madison County, Ga., Mr. Chastain was a son of the late Mary Akins and Allen Hubert Chastain. He worked at Cannon Mills, Plant 1, payroll department, and at Plant 6 for 35 years until retiring due to disability.

Mr. Chastain was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, an RA leader and a training union leader. A volunteer at the YMCA, he was nominated for N.C. Citizen of the Year for youth activities.

Survivors include wife Janet Lefler Chastain; sons Charles Chastain, Russellville, Ark., and Mark Chastain, Kannapolis; daughters Lisa Stowe, Concord, and Elaine Price, Kannapolis; sisters Sarah Spry, Rowenia Linker and Betina Ludwig, all of Kannapolis; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Tim Jernigan. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: First Baptist Church, Library Fund, 101 N. Main St., Kannapolis NC 28081.

 

Bobby ‘Felix’ Furr

NEW LONDON — Bobby “Felix” Furr, 68, 44009 Woodhurst Road, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at his home.

Born Sept. 13, 1932, in Stanly County, Mr. Furr was a son of the late Walter Lee and Flora Belle Eudy Furr.

A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he owned and operated New London Alternator and Starter Service for 25 years before his retirement. Mr. Furr was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

Survivors include wife Dorothy Lee Furr; sons Jerry Furr, Statesville, and Jimmy W. Furr, Albemarle; daughter Betty Lowder, Charlotte; brother Walter Lee “W.L.” Furr, Charlotte; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Friendship United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Harrell. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times, the family will be at the home.

 

Napoleon ‘Pole’ Krider

GRANITE QUARRY — The funeral will be Thursday for Napoleon “Pole” Krider, 70, 814 Dunns Mountain Road, who died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a serious illness of several days.

Services: 4 p.m. Thursday, New Zion Baptist Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Paul Jones, pastor. Burial, church cemetery, with military rites by the Salisbury Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury.

 

Fred A. Passmore Jr.

DAVIDSON — Fred A. Passmore Jr., 54, Davidson Road, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Statesville.

Son Charlie Robinson lives in Kannapolis.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home chapel, Mooresville, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Robinette, the Rev. Elwood Ammons and the Rev. Carl Fosdick. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Nancy Teal Poole

KANNAPOLIS — Nancy Carolyn Teal Poole, 67, 117 Kidd St., died Monday (April 16, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Oct. 2, 1933, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Poole was a daughter of the late Jadie F. and Sudie Gainey Teal.

She worked at Terry Products Inc. for many years and later in the dietary department at the former Cabarrus Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Poole was a member of Glorietta Baptist Church, Concord, where she served as secretary of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class for many years.

Survivors include husband Ray Poole; daughter Sue Kirk, Concord; sister Mary Teal Mills, Concord; brother Bobby R. Teal, Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bill Nix, the Rev. Buddy Strickland and the Rev. Yates Brooks. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Catharine A. Stirewalt

GLADWYNE, Pa. — Sister Catharine Amelia Stirewalt, 92, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at Lutheran Deaconess Community Center in suburban Philadelphia.

Miss Stirewalt grew up in Concord, and lived with her family in Salisbury, N.C., for six years in the 1930s.

Services: 1 p.m. today in the chapel of Lutheran Deaconess Community Center, Gladwyne. Graveside service, 4 p.m. Wednesday, Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, New Market, Va.

 

Phyllis Dills Welch

Phyllis Dills Welch, 56, Salisbury, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.
