Laura Harrison Copley
Laura Harrison Copley, 86, Salisbury, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.
Born Sept. 11, 1914, in Rowan County, Mrs. Copley was a daughter of the late Annie Neely Nail and Robert Samuel Harrison. She graduated from Boyden High School and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church and the VFWAuxiliary.
Her husband, James Otis Copley, died Oct. 18, 1985.
Survivors include brother Robert C. Harrison, Granite Quarry, and sister Mary H. Benson, Wilkesboro.
Services: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Kelley, pastor of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial, Old Historic Salisbury National Cemetery.
Visitation: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home of Robert Harrison in Granite Quarry.

Napoleon ‘Pole’ Krider
GRANITE QUARRY — Napoleon “Pole” Krider, 70, 814 Dunns Mountain Road, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. He had been seriously ill several days.
Born Nov. 27, 1930, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Krider was a son of the late Julia Thompson and Hezekiah K. Krider. Educated at Granite Quarry School, he owned and operated H.K. Krider &Sons, Inc. Scrap Metal.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church, Salisbury, where he was an usher and a member of the Gospel, Senior and Men’s choirs.
He was also a member of the Granite Quarry Men’s Club, Eureka Lodge 45 Scottish Rite Masonry, J.C. Price American Legion Post 107, American Metal Association of America, Charlotte Minority Business Association and Rowan County Chamber of Commerce.
He was listed in “Who’s Who in Executive Professionals” and was a recipient of the local Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award.
Survivors include wife Catherine Swann Krider; son Charles Krider, China Grove; daughters Doris Krider, Salisbury, and Cynthia Krider of the home; grandson Kevin D. Krider, who was reared in the home; sister Margaret Ross, Salisbury; five additional grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

William H. Leonard
MOCKSVILLE — William Howard Leonard, 51, 466 Green Hill Road, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Sept. 21, 1949, in Davidson County, Mr. Leonard was a son of the late Ida Bates and Roy Baxter Leonard. He was self-employed as a logger.
Survivors include wife Shirley Morgan Leonard; son Howard T. Lowe, Spencer; daughter Debbie Jones, Mocksville; sisters Ella Mae Curry, Virginia Leonard and Susie Leonard, all of Lexington; and two grandchildren.

‘Jim’ Allen Smith
KANNAPOLIS — James Allen “Jim” Smith, 67, 1500 Cooper Ave., died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born April 6, 1934, in Carleton County, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Mabel Henderson and John Smith. He was employed by A&F Vending Co. for 20 years.
Survivors include son Adam T. Smith, Kannapolis; daughter Tonya Burleson, Stanfield; brother Lyle Smith, Canada; and two granddaughters.

Arnold Riley Williams
Arnold Riley Williams, 71, Salisbury, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at his home after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 8, 1929, in Rowan County, Mr. Williams was a son of the late Nora Rary and E.P. Williams. Educated in the Granite Quarry schools, he was employed by the Rowan County ABC Board for 27 years. He had retired as manager of the China Grove ABC store.
He was a former member of the Spencer Moose Lodge and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include wife Velma Welch Williams, whom he married Aug. 15, 1970; stepsons Billy and Roger Fortner, both of Salisbury, and Kenneth Ray Fortner, Vancouver, Wash.; brothers Carl and Benny Williams, both of Salisbury; sister Mildred W. Mesimer, Salisbury; six step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Chris Blackburn. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park. Military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

MOORESVILLE — Boyd Anthony “Tony” Wright, 40, Ashcraft Drive, died Friday (April 13, 2001) at his home.
Born March 30, 1961, in Iredell County, Mr. Wright was a son of Barbara Hastings Wright and Boyd R. Wright, both of Mooresville. He was previously employed by University Hospital, Charlotte.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include brother Samuel Wright, Mooresville; sister Susan Flick, Benbrook, Texas; and half sister Sandra Fay Hinkle, Reno, Nev.
