GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Catawba College’s baseball team lost a marathon contest, but came back to win the second game of a doubleheader here Saturday.
Tusculum edged coach Jim Gantt’s Indians 11-10 in 15 innings in the first game of the South Atlantic Conference twin bill. Catawba led 8-5 going into the ninth inning.
Catawba charged back to win the second contest 12-2 behind the four-hit pitching of Brian Hatley.
O.J. Lennon led the Indians in the first game, going 4-for-7, and Todd Smith, Blair Reynolds and Dennis Love each had three hits. Spencer Southard hit a home run.
Lennon went 3-for-4 for Catawba in the second game, and Israel Morrow and Chad Hill each went 3-for-5.
The game was called after six innings under the 10-run-lead rule.
Hatley walked two and struck out six while improving his mound record to 4-3.
Catawba is 29-21 overall and 10-10 in the SAC.
n Legends turn back Intimidators 2-0
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lexington Legends got three-hit pitching from Nick Roberts and defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 2-0 in South Atlantic League baseball here Saturday.
Roberts (2-0) struck out nine batters and walked none while handing Kannapolis its first shutout defeat of the season.
The Intimidators, now 7-3, have an open date today, then return to Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium to play the Charleston (W.Va.) Alley Cats at 6:35 p.m. Monday.
