Bonnie Kepley Eagle

Bonnie Sue Kepley Eagle, 57, Mooresville Highway, died Friday (April 13, 2001) at her residence.

Born Oct. 25, 1943, in Salisbury, she was the daughter of Walter A. Kepley, Salisbury, and the late Beatrice Link Kepley. A graduate of Boyden High School and Catawba College, she was formerly employed by N.C. State University in Raleigh. She was a member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church and attended Landmark Church.

Survivors, in addition to her father, include brother Walter A. “Buddy” Kepley Jr. of Salisbury.

Services: 6:30 p.m. today at Summersett Funeral Home, led by the Rev. Benny Hillard, pastor of Landmark Church. Burial at Rowan Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Monday.

Visitation: Following the service until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of W.A. Kepley, 1601 Mooresville Highway.

LaTonya Yvette Gray

LaTonya Yvette “Ton” Gray, 34, formerly of 522 Laurel Point Circle, died Thursday (April 12, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born April 11, 1967, in Salisbury, she was the daughter of Calvin “Bull” Jackson of East Spencer and the late Mary Gray. A graduate of the Rowan County school system, she was last employed at the Rowan County Vocational Workshop. She formerly attended Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Survivors, in addition to her father, include stepmother Betty Jackson of East Spencer; brother Calvin Jackson of East Spencer; sisters LaNiece Gray of Salisbury, and Wanda Jackson and April Jackson, both of East Spencer; and grandfather Daniel Gray, Salisbury.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home, led by the Rev. Gary Withers. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of her grandfather at 320 W. Harrison St.

 

Winfred Cleo Love

CONCORD - Winfred Cleo Love, 66, formerly of Lexington, died Thursday (April 14, 2001) at Avante of Concord Nursing Center.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis, led by the Rev. Kenneth Deal and the Rev. Jake Shumaker. Burial at Sunset Cemetery in Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Wallace B. McCool

KANNAPOLIS — Wallace B. McCool, 83, 2606 Pennsylvania Ave., died at his residence on Friday (April 13, 2001).

Born Oct. 18, 1917, in Noxapater, Miss., he was the son of the late Albert Holland and Sarah Talitha Johnson McCool. He had retired in 1979 from the N.C. Employment Security Commission.

He was a member of Royal Oaks Baptist Church, where he formerly taught Sunday school. A U.S Navy veteran of World War II, he was a past commander of Beaver-Pittman American Legion Post 115. He was also a member of Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge and the Royal Oaks Optimist Club, where he had served as the first and 25th president.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sarah Pennington McCool; daughter Barbara Nell McCool of Salisbury, Md.; and sister Sarah Helen Poston of Kannapolis.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Royal Oaks Baptist Church, led by the Rev. Leon Smith. Burial at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Lady’s Funeral Home.

Glenn Edward Myers

MOUNT AIRY — Glenn Edward Myers, 75, 837 Hollysprings Church Road, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Born April 28, 1925, in Surry County, he was the son of the late Robert Glenn Myers and the late Tiny Mae Brown Myers Williams. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.

Formerly employed with Walls Jewelers and Marion Jewelers, he had retired from North Carolina Foam Industries. He was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Etta Mae Johnson; daughters Renee Hylton of Mount Airy and Tonya Smith of Pilot Mountain; brothers Homer Myers of Charlotte, Wayne Myers of Spencer and Benny Myers of Salisbury; and five grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 1 p.m. Monday at Skyline Memory Gardens, led by the Rev. Bill Guthrie.

Visitation: Noon Monday at the cemetery’s mausoleum.

Leonard ‘Slim’ Reid

Leonard Lee “Slim” Reid, 77, 419 E. Bank St., died Friday (April 13, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after being seriously ill for six weeks.

Born April 4, 1924, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Berdie Mae Clodfelter and the late James H. Reid. He was educated in the Rowan County and Salisbury schools.

Mr. Reid had retired from Fieldcrest Cannon, Plant No. 7. He was a former deacon and church maintenance man for the United House of Prayer for All People. A veteran of the Korean conflict, he served with the U.S. Army.

Survivors include wife Annie M. Pearson Reid; sons Eric D. Reid and Jeffrey Reid, both of Salisbury; and Apostle T. Reid of Atlanta; daughters Sheibra Reid of Orlando, Fla., and Donna Reid of Oxon Hill, M.D., nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: Noon Tuesday at United House of Prayer for All People, led by Elder A.M. Oakley, pastor, and Apostle H.E. Howell. Burial at National Cemetery on Brenner Avenue.

Visitation: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

James Allen Smith

KANNAPOLIS — James Allen Smith, 67, 1500 Cooper Ave., died Saturday (April 14, 2001)at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Scott Duke Spivey

NORWOOD — Scott Duke Spivey, 28, 151 Central Ave., died Friday (April 13, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle.

Albemarle survivors include father Robert Fred Spivey, brothers Robert Paul Spivey and Randy Glen Spivey and paternal grandmother Ida Spivey.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle, led by the Rev. Ronnie Vaughn and the Rev. Bobby Blake. Burial at Norwood Cemetery.

Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Myrtle Newell Trexler

ROCKWELL — Myrtle Newell Trexler, 90, Rockwell, died Friday (April 13, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born Oct. 13, 1910, in Alamance County to the late Anna Hopkins and William D. Newell, she was educated in the Guilford County schools. Mrs. Trexler had retired from food service at Rockwell Elementary School and Pfeiffer College. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Burten “Bert” B. Trexler, died Jan. 1, 1997.

Survivors include sister Hazel Nuckles of Hampton, Va.

Services: 3 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, led by the Rev. Bruce Sheeks, pastor. Burial in church cemetery.

Visitation: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at Powles Funeral Home.

Memorials: Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2070 Emmanuel Church Road, Rockwell, NC 28138.
