Carol Anne Feigel Bost

Carol Anne Feigel Bost, 50, Salisbury, died Thursday (April 12, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born July 17, 1950, in Syracuse, N.Y., Mrs. Bost was a daughter of the late Mable Hoag and Charles R. Feigel. She graduated from Cororan High School and Chicago Conservatory College of Music and received her teaching certification from Catawba College.

She was a former choir director at Wittenberg Lutheran Church in Granite Quarry and had been administrative assistant of the Theatre Arts Department at Catawba College.

She had also been a soloist at the Christian Science Church for many years and performed regularly with Piedmont Players.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors include husband Nonnie K. Bost, whom she married Sept. 18, 1983; stepdaughter Jodi B. Parks, Lexington; brother Charles R. Feigel, Syracuse, N.Y.; sister Linda Cardner, Petersboro, N.Y.; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Saturday, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Stephen B. Morris. Burial, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Columbarium.

Visitation: None. Evergreen Cremation Services in charge.

Hannah H. Padgett

CLEVELAND — Hannah H. Padgett, 74, Cleveland, died Thursday (April 12, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born May 14, 1926, in Burke County, Mrs. Padgett was a daughter of the late Grace Vance and Lawson P. Henderson. She graduated from Morganton High School and H.F. Long School of Nursing.

She was employed for 27 years as a staff nurse, office nurse, coronary care nurse and nurse clinician at Iredell Memorial Hospital, States-ville. During that time, she received a plaque for Outstanding Nursing Service as head nurse of the coronary care unit.

She had also been an office nurse for Dr. C.W. Applewhite and Dr. John Rosser.

She was chairman and secretary/treasurer of the Nellie Holland Nurses Scholarship Fund for many years and was in the first class of those selected as Great 100 Nurses in North Carolina.

She was a member of Third Creek Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder, Sunday school teacher and choir member and had been moderator of the Presbyterian Women of the Church for many years.

In addition, she was named Lioness of the Year twice and received the John Holder Distinguished Service Award.

Survivors include husband James C. Padgett, whom she married May 14, 1947; son James B. Padgett, Salisbury; and sister Barbara Henderson Thomas, Fort Worth, Texas.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Third Creek Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. David Carriker, pastor, the Rev. Phillip Byrum of Wilson and the Rev. Thomas Sherrod, chaplain of Iredell Memorial Hospital. Burial, Cleveland Town Cemetery.

Guy Robert Rayfield

GASTONIA — Guy Robert Rayfield, 88, 1443 N. Modena St., died Wednesday (April 11, 2001) at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Guy was the father of Joyce Horne of Granite Quarry.

Services: 3 p.m. today, McAdenville Wesleyan Church, McAdenville. Burial, Hillcrest Gardens, Mount Holly.

Visitation: 2 p.m. today at the church. Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Joe Dudley Roberts

Joe Dudley Roberts, 80, 102 Pond View Drive, formerly of 408 N.Chapel St., Landis, died Thursday (April 12, 2001) at Hefner VAMedical Center after a period of declining health.

Born July 29, 1920, in Rowan County, Mr. Roberts was a son of the late Bessie Litaker and Claude Albert Roberts. He graduated from Landis High School and retired from the maintenance department at Cannon Mills.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Landis, and the Church Council.

Survivors include wife Sarah Coan Roberts, whom he married Feb. 3, 1951; daughter Janie R. Rollins, Salisbury; brother Roy B. Roberts, Landis; and sisters Della Mae Dayvault, Concord, and Nelle Lovette, Myrtle Beach.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Graham Nahouse. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, is in charge.

Robert Simpson

Robert Simpson, 72, 728 S. Ellis St., died Wednesday (April 11, 2001) at Hefner VAMedical Center after two weeks of serious illness.

Born March 11, 1929, in Chester County, S.C., Mr. Simpson was a son of the late Veniest Heath and Dock Simpson. He attended J.C. Price High School and retired from Southern States.

He attended Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by stepdaughter Evonne Washington.

Survivors include wife Louise Pharr Simpson; and sister Essie Rucker, Chester, S.C.

Services: 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. William D. Turner. Burial, 1 p.m. Monday, U.S. National Cemetery, Brenner Avenue, with military rites by the Salisbury-Rowan Veterans Council.

Visitation: 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

 

John Henry Spencer

John Henry Spencer, 85, 504 Wesley Drive, died Thursday (April 12, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 4, 1916, in Rowan County, Mr. Spencer was a son of the late Edna Albright and Frank Spencer. He graduated from Boyden High School.

He worked for Southern Railroad in the Spencer Shops before owning and operating Spencer’s Toy and Paint Store in Salisbury.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the National Federation of the Blind and the Rowan Ramblers.

His wife, Myrtle Boger Spencer, died Aug. 1, 1998.

Survivors include son John Spencer Jr., Boiling Spring Lakes; daughter Jean S. Loflin, Kingsport, Tenn.; brother Bobby Spencer, Social Circle, Ga.; sisters Sara Gemayel, Spencer, Judy Thompson, Summerville, S.C., and Mary Coble, China Grove; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Carl Sachtleben, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Rena Mae Arey Stokes

GOLD HILL — Rena Mae Arey Stokes, 81, formerly of Gold Hill, died Friday (April 13, 2001) at Genesis Elder Care, Salisbury.
