LEXINGTON — Desi Laguane Hairston, 25, South
Nellis Blvd., Las Vegas, Nev., died Saturday (April 7, 2001) from injuries
sustained in a boating accident on Lake Mohave, Las Vegas, Nev.
Born in Rowan County on Nov. 2, 1975, Mr.Hairston
was a son of Lorene Hairston Daugherty of Elloree, S.C., and Willie Hargrave of
Lexington. He was a graduate of West Davidson High School and was employed with
Safari Apartments in Las Vegas,Nev.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife
Christy Godsey Hairston, of the home; brothers Lazarus Hairston and Keldon D.
Hargrave, both of Lexington; sister Kelcey Deann Hargrave, Lexington; stepfather
Leon Daugherty, Elloree, S.C.; and stepmother Liz Hargrave, Lexington.

KANNAPOLIS — Donna Lynn Jocobi, 35, 4268 Vincent
St., died Wednesday (April 11, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Sept. 7, 1965, in Iredell County, Mrs. Jocobi
was a daughter of Donnie Lee Long and Shelia Galloway Barry, both of Kannapolis.
She was a roving teller with First Union National Bank for Cabarrus and Rowan
counties. She was a member of Highest Praise Family Worship Center, Landis.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include sons
Jason Scott, Jamie Lee and A.J. Brown, all of Kannapolis; brothers Eric Galloway
and Timothy Long, both of Kannapolis; maternal grandmother Artellia Galloway,

Robert Simpson, 72, 728 S. Ellis St., died Wednesday
(April 11, 2001) at Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury.

Robin R. Stafford
KANNAPOLIS — Robin Ramon Stafford, 45, Kannapolis, died Tuesday (April 3, 2001).
Born March 10, 1956, in Forsyth County, Mr. Stafford was a son of the late Horace Wendell and Claudia Ann Mustin Stafford. He was educated in the Forsyth County schools and was a graduate of the N.C. Justice Academy Police Law School.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department for 14 years and was chief of police of Badin Police Department for the past three years.
Survivors include wife Colleen Banner Stafford; brothers Larry Stafford, Kernersville, and Billy Stafford, Florida; and sister Judy Stafford, Kernersville.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Mount Gur Memorial Gardens, Kernersville, conducted by the Rev. Frank O’Rourke. Burial, church cemetery.

Dr. John Zimmerman Jr.
Dr. John W. Zimmerman Jr., 85, 15 Oak Road, died Wednesday (April 11, 2001) at his home.
Born Sept. 8, 1915, in Salisbury, Dr. Zimmerman was a son of the late John W. and Ollie Mae Ripple Zimmerman. He was educated in the Salisbury City schools and was a graduate of Boyden High School. He received his associate’s degree fromCatawba College in 1936 and his doctor of dentistry degree from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1941.
He was a member of the Honorary Dental Society and Omicron Kapa Upsilon.
Dr. Zimmerman practiced dentistry with his father for a short time before serving in the U.S. Army Dental Corps from 1943-1946 during World War II. While serving, he was assigned to the 164th Station Hospital with duty at various locations in the states and overseas duty with the 374th General Hospital on the island of Tinian in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a life member of the Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, Second District Dental Society and was a past president of Rowan County Dental Society.
Dr. Zimmerman retired from practice in 1989 after 48 years of dentistry.
A member of First United Methodist Church and the Golden Rule Men’s Sunday school class, he served on the administrative board. He was also a member of Salisbury Kiwanis Club and Samuel C. Hart American Legion Post.
Survivors include wife Nancy Johnston Zimmerman, whom he married Oct. 1, 1949; son Robert “Bob” Zimmerman, Salisbury; daughter Nan Zimmerman, Salisbury; sister Patty W. Seay, Spencer; and one granddaughter.
Services: Memorial, 11 a.m. Friday, First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas L. Griffis. Private burial at City Memorial Park before the memorial service.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home.
