Howard K. Allison

MOCKSVILLE — Howard Kermit Allison, 85, Powell Road, died Monday (April 9, 2001) at his home.

Born Sept. 20, 1915, in Transylvania County, Mr. Allison was a son of the late Edward A. and Florence Powell Allison. He was employed by Heritage Furniture Co. for 28 years and was a member of Gospel Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Miriam Pittman Allison; sons Ray K. and Kenneth L. Allison, both of Mocksville; daughters Linda G. Davis and Lucy Goforth, both of Mocksville; brothers Auther E. and Charles H. Allison, both of Old Fort; sister Helen Watts, Asheville; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 7 p.m. Thursday, Gospel Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kevin Hobson, the Rev. Jack Johnson and the Rev. Jim Gryder. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Davie Funeral Service.

Lucy Ruth Ellen Britt

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Lucy Ruth Ellen Britt, 73, 1018 Hoke St., who died Tuesday (April 10, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Feb. 10, 1928, in Anson County, Mrs. Britt was a daughter of the late Marshall Martin and Eva Viola High Preslar.

Survivors include husband Richard Allen Britt; daughters Gail Cress and Kathy Powell, both of Kannapolis, and Sue Honeycutt, China Grove; sons Larry Britt, Kannapolis, and Mike Britt, Mount Pleasant; sisters Annie Byrd, China Grove, and Oralee Morton, Albemarle; 11 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tom Widden. Burial,Cabarrus Memorial Gardens, Concord.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Hoke Street.

 

Lucetta Meeks Brower

Lucetta Meeks Brower, 97, Salisbury, died Tuesday (April 10, 2001) at the home of son James Henry “Pete” Brower Jr., Salisbury, after a period of declining health.

Born Oct. 15, 1903, in Anson County, Mrs. Brower was a daughter of the late Harvey and Minnie Pigg Meeks. She was educated in Anson County and retired from Cartex Mills.

She was a member of North Main Baptist Church and the Caswell Dorcus Sunday school class.

Her husband, James Henry “Pete” Brower, died June 13, 1992, and a daughter, Zanie Thompson, died Oct. 21, 1991.

Survivors, in addition to her son, include daughter Christine Mize, Salisbury; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, North Main Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Dale Robertson, pastor, and the Rev. J.A. “Pete” Richardson. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Pete Brower Jr.

‘Red’ Cranford Jr.

LEXINGTON — Claude Wade “Red” Cranford Jr., 73, Ridge Road, died Tuesday (April 10, 2001) at Lexington Memorial Hospital after nine months of illness.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Pilgrim Reformed United Church of Christ. Burial, church cemetery. Military rites by Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home.

Terry Allen Kilby

LEXINGTON — Terry Allen Kilby, 47, Riverview Road, died Tuesday (April 10, 2001) at his home after nine years of declining health.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Davidson Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Madison Heights Freewill Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Riverview Road.

 

Jesse Terrell Morton

ALBEMARLE — Jesse Terrell Morton, 66, 17658-A Efird Road, died Tuesday (April 10, 2001) at Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Martin Lutheran Church. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Terra Morton Drake, 17658-A Efird Road.

Reese C. Taggart Jr.

The funeral will be Thursday for Reese C. “R.C.”Taggart Jr., 85, Emerald Park Health Care, Oaklawn, Ill., who died Friday (April 6, 2001) at Christ Hospital, Oaklawn.

Services: 6 p.m. Thursday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Leamon Brown. Burial, 11 a.m. Friday, National Cemetery, Salisbury. Military rites by Rowan Veterans Council.
