CHINA GROVE — Bessie Mae Albright, 67, 4070 Patterson Road, died Sunday (April 8, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Thomas H. Duboyd

The funeral will be Thursday for Thomas H. Duboyd, 90, Brightmoor Nursing Center, who died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at the nursing center.

Born Feb. 11, 1911, in Rowan County, Mr. DuBoyd, a son of the late John and Eliza Duboyd, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He had retired as a delivery person for Morris Florist, Spencer.

Services: Memorial, 7 p.m. Thursday, Mitchell &Fair Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Louis Turner, pastor, Antioch Baptist Church, Granite Quarry. The body will be cremated. Burial, Byers Cemetery, East Spencer.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the home of a nephew, Dewitt T. Turner, 1550 N.Long St.Extension.

 

Belton Koontz

LEXINGTON — Belton Koontz, 76, 3017 Happy Hill Road, died Sunday (April 8, 2001) at his home after an extended illness.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Reeds Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home.At other times the family will be at the home on Happy Hill Road.

Harold A. Lentz

CHINA GROVE — Harold A. Lentz, 94, Salisbury Lutheran Home, formerly of China Grove, died Monday (April 9, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Beulah M. Sides

Beulah Mae Misenheimer Sides, 86, Salisbury, died Sunday (April 8, 2001) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Born Jan. 16, 1915, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Sides, a daughter of the late Charlie Victor and Maggie Blackwelder Misenheimer, was educated in the Cabarrus County schools. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons Ernest Lee Sides, Spencer, and Howard Joseph Sides, Salisbury; daughter Louise Marie Wells, New London; brother Ray Banks Misenheimer, Mount Pleasant; sister Margie Wagoner, Gold Hill; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services:Graveside, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Floyd Sides.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell. At other times the family will be at the home of Ernest Lee Sides, Spencer.

Mildred Stirewalt, Salisbury, died Sunday (April 8, 2001) at her home.

MOORESVILLE — Annette D. Alexander, 66, Mazeppa Road, died Saturday (April 7, 2001).

Paul Eugene Church

MOORESVILLE — Paul Eugene Church, 80, formerly of Mooresville, died Friday (April 6, 2001) at McClearn Hospital, Mount Morris,Mich.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Neill Funeral Home. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Rachel Smith Deaton

MOORESVILLE — Rachel Smith Deaton, 74, 743 E. Iredell Ave., formerly of Shearers Road, died Sunday (April 8, 2001).

Born May 4, 1926, in Kannapolis, Mrs. Deaton was a daughter of the late Wade Arthur and Clara Barnes Smith. She was a member of Mooresville ARPChurch, where she was a deacon and served two terms as president of the Women of the Church.

She had served three terms as president of Swann VFWPost 1072 Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Adah Chapter 28, and was district deputy grand marshal for the 20thDistrict.

Last employed at Mooresville Upholstery Shop, Mrs. Deaton was earlier employed by Roses Department Store, Leonard Jewelry and Anchor-Serium Pharmaceutical. She also taught a cake decorating course at Mitchell Community College in Statesville.

A stepson, Billy Wayne Deaton, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, James “Floyd”Deaton; sons Michael E. Brooks, Dennis A. Deaton and James F. Deaton Jr., all of Mooresville; sisters Eleanor Cranford, Charlotte, and Evelyn Brooks, Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 4 p.m. Tuesday, Mooresville ARPChurch, conducted by the Rev. Gerald R. Hallman. Committal service at 3:30 p.m. at Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: In the church fellowship hall immediately after the service. At other times, the family will be at the home on East Iredell Avenue.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, is in charge.

Arnold Wesley “A.W.”Duncan Jr, 62, Salisbury, died Saturday (April 7, 2001).

Verdie Watson Heinz

ROCKWELL — Verdie Wiley Watson Heinz, 88, Manahawkin, N.J., formerly of Rowan County, died Wednesday (April 4, 2001) at Manahawkin Convalescent Center after a period of declining health.

Born Oct. 23, 1912, in Pine Hill, Mrs. Heinz, a daughter of the late William Hardy and Sarah Winford Thompson Wiley, was educated in the North Carolina schools.

She attended the Salvation Army while living in Salisbury. She had retired as an administrative assistant with the Salvation Army in Philadelphia.

She was preceded in death by her first husband,Raiford Watson; her second husband, Herbert Heinz; and daughter Helen Tyas.

Survivors include sons Hardy Watson, Philadelphia, James Watson, Manchester, Conn., Robert Watson, Tampa, Fla., and Wade Watson, Harrisburg, Pa.; and daughter Joan Crispell, Gainesville, Fla.

Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, conducted by family members.

Visitation:None.

GASTONIA — Selma Thompson Rayfield, 84, 1443 N. Modena St., mother of Joyce Horne, Granite Quarry, died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at her home.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, McAdenville Wesleyan Church. Burial, Hillcrest Gardens, Mount Holly.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Greene Funeral Service, Southside Chapel. At other times, the family will be at the home on Modena Street.
