Annette Alexander

MOORESVILLE — Annette Dishman Alexander, 66, of Mazeppa Road, died Saturday (April 7, 2001).

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is in charge of arrangements.

 

Donald Franklin Brandt

EDGEWOOD, Ky. — Donald Franklin Brandt, 65, of Edgewood, died Thursday (April 5, 2001) at St. Elizabeth North Hospice.

A member of Covington Masonic Lodge 109, Mr. Brandt served his electrician apprenticeship with the Southern Railroad in Salisbury, N.C. He was a woodworking craftsman and builder. He retired in 1997 after 25 years with Signode Co., where he was an industrial electrician. He attended Immanuel United Methodist Church. He restored historical vehicles, loved outdoor work and golf and was a collector of railroad and World War II memorabilia.

Survivors include wife Charlotte K. Brandt; mother Helen I. Brandt, Salisbury; son Michael K. Brandt, New York, N.Y.; daughters Cathey Don Terrigno, Bridgeton, N.J., and Marion Carol Bertke, Florence, Ky.; brothers Charles F. Brandt, Mason, Ohio, and Thomas E. Brandt, Spencer, N.C.; sisters Elizabeth Earnhardt, Raleigh, N.C., and Faye L. Jacobs, Charlotte, N.C,; and seven grandchildren.

Service: 12 p.m. Monday, Immanuel United Methodist Church. Burial, Highland Cemetery.

Visitation: 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at the church.

Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Eudy Cooke

ALBEMARLE — Mary Margaret Eudy Cooke, 84, of 321 Henning Dr., died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 6, 1916, in Stanly County, Mrs. Cooke was a daughter of the late Daniel Albert and Emma Smith Eudy. She was a retired private duty and nursing assistant.

A member of Poplin Grove Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by husband William G. Cooke.

Survivors include daughter Meneika Cooke, Albemarle; brother Philas Eudy, Lexington; one granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Poplin Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Terry Burris and the Rev.David Alexander. Burial, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery, Oakboro.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of granddaughter Tammy Page Whitley, 346 Hwy. 200 North, Stanfield.

 

William B. Duncan

KANNAPOLIS — William Brice Duncan, 84, of 526 Eastway Ave., died Friday (April 6, 2001) at the Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Jan. 13, 1917, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mr. Duncan was a son of the late Walter Timmons and Numa Bell Smith Duncan. He was retired from Cannon Mills.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Sellers Duncan, and a son, Michael Eugene Duncan.

Survivors include daughter Betty Duncan Woodie, Salisbury; sons Danny Lee Duncan, Kannapolis, and William Brice Duncan, Jr., Salisbury; 11 grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Willie Rash. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

 

Violet Honeycutt Eagle

WINSTON-SALEM — Violet Honeycutt Eagle, 68, of Winston-Salem, died Friday (April 6, 2001) at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

Born Oct. 24, 1933 in Rowan County, Mrs. Eagle was a daughter of the late Jasper Clay and Margaret Ludwick Honeycutt. She retired from BellSouth after 31 years of service. She was a lifetime member of Bell Telephone Pioneers, Salem Council.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Claude D. Eagle; daughter Leanne E. Allen, Mocksville; son Claude D. Eagle, Jr., Winston-Salem; sisters Roberta Honeycutt Ragan, Salisbury, and Nolie Ann Honeycutt Myers, Kannapolis; brother David Richard Honeycutt, Rockwell; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home chapel, conducted by Jack Stoner. Burial, Westlawn Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

 

Della Litaker

KANNAPOLIS — Della Mae Earley Litaker, 81, of 513 West 8th St., died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, following six months of declining health.

Born Jan. 15, 1920, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Litaker was a daughter of the late Charlie Lee and Emma Belle Dayvault Earley. A retired employee of Cannon Mills, she attended Lane Street Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by husband John Litaker.

Survivors include stepson Glenn Litaker, Kannapolis; sisters Voida Hilton and Mary Price, both of Kannapolis; brothers Gene Earley of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Joe Earley, Landis, Charles Earley, Salisbury, and George Earley of Kannapolis; and two step- grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Lady’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gene Edwards. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Farris Lee Miller

MOORESVILLE — Farris Lee Miller, 80, of Market Road, died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born May 4, 1920, in Iredell County, Mr. Miller was a son of the late George and Margaret Ervin Miller. He was a retired owner and operator of Miller and Son Grocery on N.C. Highway 21. He attended Liberty Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

Survivors include sons Doyte Lee Miller, Troutman, Robert Allen Miller, Mocksville, and David Miller and Dickie Lynn Miller, both of Kannapolis; daughter Hope M. Lowe, Kannapolis; brothers Troy Miller, Archie Miller, Eugene “Peanut” Miller and William “Bill” Miller, all of Mooresville; sister Margaret Miller Darr, Mount Mourne; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Liberty Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Robinette and the Rev. Blain Keaton. Burial, Iredell Memorial Gardens, Statesville.

Ada Louisa Rummage

GREENVILLE — Ada Louisa Rummage, 87, of 116 Maxwell Circle, died Friday (April 6, 2001).

A native of Franklin County, Tenn., Mrs. Rummage was the wife of the Rev. Roy Jackson, a former minister in Gold Hill.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Wood Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Aaron J. Rummage, the Rev. Robert Smith and the Rev. Morley Hutchings. Burial, 3 p.m. Tuesday, Gold Hill Wesleyan Church cemetery.

KANNAPOLIS — Robin Ramon Stafford, 45, died Tuesday (April 3, 2001).

Mattie H. Stirewalt

ALBEMARLE — Mattie Harward Stirewalt, 73, of 31979 Farmwood Lane, died Saturday morning (April 7, 2001) at her home.

Born Aug. 14, 1927, in Stanly County, Mrs. Stirewalt was a daughter of the late Grady and Jane Elizabeth Tucker Harward. She was a retired seamstress and pianist for Mount Pleasant Church of God, where she was a member.

She was preceded in death by a grandson Aaron Efird.

Survivors include sons Thomas Stirewalt, Stanfield, and David Stirewalt, Albemarle; daughters Mary S. Gibson, Norwood, Sylvia S. Baucom, Kannapolis, and Sherry S. Parker, Janet S. Efird, Martha Thornton and Ginger Harris, all of Albemarle; brothers Wilfred Harward and Joe Harward, both of Norwood, and Keith Harward, Albemarle; sisters Veigh Lambert, Norwood, and Kaye Lambert, Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gary Bragg and the Rev. Frank Thompson. Burial, Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery, Norwood.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jewel Page Stogner

Jewel Page Stogner, 79, of Salisbury, died Friday (April 6, 2001) at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation after two months of declining health.

Born Aug. 6, 1921, in Stanly County, Mrs. Stogner, a daughter of the late Nezzie Harrington and John F. Page, was educated in Rowan County schools. A homemaker, she kept children in her home for 30 years until her retirement in 1993. She was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, where she taught in the primary and nursery departments for more than 50 years.

She was preceded in death by husband Marvin Everett Stogner on March 22, 1969.

Survivors include daughters Darcell Mangam, Salisbury, and Jennell Deziel, Granite Quarry; sister Sue P. Kirby, Granite Quarry; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Monday, Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert Heard and the Rev. James Stokes. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial, City Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. today, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Darcell Mangan, 110 Pinewood Drive.

Reece ‘R.C.’ Taggart Jr.

OAKLAWN, Ill. — Reece C. “R.C.” Taggart Jr., 85, of Emerald Park Health Care in Oaklawn, died Friday (April 6, 2001) at Christ Hospital, Oaklawn.

Born May 26, 1915, in Abbeville County, S.C., Mr. Taggart was a son of the late Tiney Stewart Taggart and Reese C. Taggart.

He was educated in public schools of Abbeville County, S.C., and finished masonry trade at J.C. Price High School in Salisbury, N.C.. He was a shipping clerk for Southern Railroad in Salisbury and in Chicago, Ill. He was a fuel helper for Home Fuel and Supply Co. in Chicago and owned and operated a newstand.

He was a member of Progressive Baptist Church in Chicago and a former member of First Calvary Baptist Church in Salisbury. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include son Ronnie Taggart, Chicago, Ill.; daughters Doris Ann Hall, Bowling Brook, Ill., and Theresa Taggart, Chicago; sisters Pernell T. Shaw, Chicago, and Volora T. Boger and Theresa T. Cowan, both of Salisbury; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of Theresa Cowan, 1304 West Horah Street.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
