Velma Pressley Adams
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Velma Pressley Adams, 87, 203 W. 18th St., who died Monday (April 2, 2001)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Oct. 28, 1913, in Union County, Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late Thomas Franklin and Amanda Haigley Pressley. She retired in 1976 from Cannon Mills Co.
A member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church, she was in the Senior Citizens Club and Charming Years Club. She was a Sunday school teacher in the preschool department for many years.
Her husband, Jesse Clifford Adams, preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Frank Adams, Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday,North Kannapolis Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Coy Privette. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Frank Adams, 109Kimball St.

Josephine “Jo” Stroud Beam, 58, 3800 Cauble Road, died Wednesday (April 4, 2001) at her home.

Grimes Baxter Beck, 76, Salisbury, died Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

T. Scot Brown Hairston
Thomas Scot Brown Hairston, 40, 402 E. Horah St., died Monday (April 2, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Jan. 31, 1961, in Salisbury, Mr. Hairston was a son of the late Willard Hairston and Isabelle Brown. He was educated in the Salisbury schools and a 1979 graduate of Salisbury High School. He was a former member of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church.
Survivors include brothers Willard Brown, Charlotte, and Michael, Phillip and Byron Brown, all of Salisbury; sisters Jeanette, Gloria and Terri Brown and Carolyn Brown Dunston, all of Salisbury; and cousin reared in the home Barbara Ann Phillips.
Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Mitchell and Fair Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Calvin L. Miller, pastor, East Stonewall AME Zion Church, Charlotte. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation: 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Michael Brown, 1502 W. Horah St.
Crystal Tucker Kiker
CHINA GROVE — Crystal Lynn Tucker Kiker, 30, 420 Sylvan Road, died Monday (April 2, 2001).
Born April 3, 1970, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Kiker was a daughter of Irene Tucker Wilkes of China Grove and the late James A. Warr. She was employed with Big Elm Nursing Center, Kannapolis, for many years. A member of Second Baptist Church, Kannapolis, she was active in all phases of church activities.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include stepfather Eugene Wilkes, China Grove; husband Jeffery Kiker; daughters Jennifer Carter and Ashley and April Kiker, all of the home; brother Jimmy Tucker, China Grove; sisters Susan Hager, Kannapolis, and Amanda and Danielle Wilkes, both of China Grove; maternal grandmother Mable Morris, China Grove; and maternal great-grandmother Pearl Tucker, Kannapolis.
Services: 4 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Gary Scoggins. Burial, Cross Freewill Baptist Church cemetery, Kannapolis.

Rodrigo Nunez Lopez was dead at birth Monday (April 2, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Rachel Shankle Lowder
Rachel Christine Shankle Lowder, 81, 710 Julian Road, died Tuesday (April 3, 2001)at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury.
Born May 15, 1919, in Stanly County, Mrs. Lowder was a daughter of the late Clarence Raymond and Annie Letha Barrier Shankle. She retired as a hosiery inspector from Wiscassett Hosiery Mill.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Norwood, the Adelaide-Harris Sunday School Class and a former class secretary.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday,First United Methodist Church, Norwood, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Black. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle.
Visitation: The body may be viewed at Hartsell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Ollie Petrea Rogers
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Ollie Frances Petrea Rogers, 81, 900 Laura Ave., who died Monday (April 2, 2001) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville.
Born Aug. 22, 1919, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Rogers, a daughter of the late John Victor and Mary Frances Clayton Petrea, was a member of Unity United Methodist Church. She retired from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1 wash cloth department.
Survivors include husband Carl Howard Rogers; sons Boyd and Eddie Rogers, both of Davidson; daughters Phyllis Craft, Davidson, and Judy Haigler, Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
