LEXINGTON — James “Jim”
Biesecker Jr., 87, 209 Bremen Drive, died Saturday (March 31, 2001).
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Piedmont
Funeral Home.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the
funeral home.
C.E. ‘Gene’ Hast
C.E. “Gene” Hast, 71, Salisbury,
died Saturday (March 31, 2001) at his home after a long illness.
Born Dec. 19, 1929, in Malden, Mo.,
Mr. Hast was the son of the late William and Ivy Lemore Hast.
Educated in the schools of Qulin, Mo., he served eight years in the
U.S. Army, retiring as a sergeant first class. He received the
Purple Heart during the Korean conflict. He also served 12 years
with the South Carolina National Guard.
Mr. Hast owned and operated barber
shops in Columbia, S.C., and Centerville, Ala. He later became a
security guard at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga., and at the
KoSa plant in Salisbury, retiring in 1995 after 10 years with the
company.
He was a member of Franklin Baptist
Church and the Mount Tabor Baptist and Stallings Memorial Baptist
senior groups.
Survivors include wife Ruby Kesler
Hast, whom he married Dec. 21, 1969; daughter Lisa Hast, Houston,
Texas; stepson Barry F. Wyatt, Alexandria, Va.; stepdaughters
Cecilia J. Wyatt, Fort Myers, Fla., and Carolyn E. Barrett, Kansas
City, Mo.; brothers A.C. Hast, Imperial, Mo., and T. Ray Hast,
Poplar Bluff, Mo.; sister Gracie Lavigne, DeSoto, Mo.; nine
grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett
Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Seagroves. Burial in Rowan
Memorial Park, with military rites by the Rowan County Veterans
Council.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m. Monday, at the
funeral home.

Albert ‘Kayo’ Smith
LINWOOD — Albert Pearison
“Kayo” Smith, 73, Linwood, died Friday (March 30, 2001) at Rowan
Regional Medical Center in Salisbury after a period of declining
health.
Born May 12, 1927, in Stanly County,
Mr. Smith was the son of the late Albert Curtis and Jeannie O’Neal
Smith. Educated in the Stanly County schools, he was employed with
United Furniture Factory in Lexington until retiring due to ill
health. He was a member of Yadkin Baptist Church.
His wife, Thelma Owens Smith, died
Jan. 15, 1991.
Survivors include sons Wayne Smith,
Lexington, and David Smith, Salisbury; daughter Kaye Smith, Linwood;
brother Richard Smith, Norwood; seven grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Monday,
Yadkin Baptist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. David Ayers.
Visitation: None. Family members will
be at their homes.
