Eva Carter Brewer
KANNAPOLIS — Eva Carter Brewer, 83, formerly of 1413 Pleasant Ave., died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) at Concord Nursing Home, Concord, after a period of declining health.
Born Dec. 6, 1916, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Lola Bissell and Wilson Carter.
She was employed with Cannon Mills, Plant 1, for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the former Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church.
Her husband, James Loyd "Buck" Brewer, died Aug. 27, 1999, and a daughter, Barbara Shirlene Lambert, died Jan. 10, 1995.
Survivors include son Terry W. Williams of Kannapolis, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
Services: 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Whitley's Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dean Mitchem. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Jean Lowder Crooks
Jean Lowder Crooks, 60, Winston-Salem, died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) at her home.
Born Nov. 4, 1939, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Lee Haynes Lowder. She was employed by Food Lion.
Survivors include sons Tommy, Tony and Timmy Crooks, all of Winston-Salem, brother Charles Lowder of Salisbury and eight grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, noon today, Chestnut Hills Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dale Robertson.

Lewis Alonzo Efird
OAKBORO — Lewis Alonzo Efird, 82, 12012 E. 10th St., died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Born June 30, 1918, in Albemarle, he was the son of the late Zula Hatley and Shuford Lonzo Efird.
Retired from Van Ply Inc., where he was sample room supervisor, he was a member of
Barbee's Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters Melba Barbee, Oakboro, Reba Helms, Charlotte, and Shelia Taylor and Sharon Thompson, both of Oakboro; son Roger Efird, Oakboro; sister Jewel Burrie, Oakboro; brother Kermit Efird, Norwood; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. Joe Smith.
Burial, Smith's Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

Adrian Michael Harrell
KANNAPOLIS — Infant Adrian Michael Harrell, 4 months, 638 Rainbow Drive, died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.
Whitley's Funeral Home is in charge.
Albert 'Al' Hays
The funeral for Albert "Al" Hays, 66, 661 Pinewood Ave., will be held at 3 p.m. today at Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home. Robert Reese will lead the services.
The location of the funeral was given incorrectly in previous obituaries.
Mr. Hays died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be held at 2:30 today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rowan Memorial Park.
Edwin Johnson
MOCKSVILLE — Edwin Johnson, 83, Farmington Road, died Friday at Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Winston-Salem, after being in declining health for several months.
Born Feb. 25, 1918, in Davie County, he was the son of the late Marion Hauser and Wesley Johnson. A 1935 graduate of Farmington High School, he owned and operated a retail grocery and service station in Farmington.
He was a lifelong member of Farmington United Methodist Church and a member of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department.
His wife, Esther Wood Johnson, died Feb. 2, 1995.
Survivors include sons Gene Johnson of Winston-Salem and Ed Johnson Jr. of Yadkinville, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 4 p.m. Sunday, Farmington Community Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dianne Marsden.

Nellie Bowman Koontz
Nellie Marie Bowman Koontz, 52, Arrington Drive, Lexington, died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after an illness of five months.
She was born in Patrick County, Va., on Aug. 11, 1948, the daughter of Millard H. and Carrie Goin Bowman. She was employed with Duracell Battery for 35 years.
Survivors include brothers Willie, Robert and Junior Bowman, all of Lexington, and sisters Vivian Whitley of Thompsons Station, Tenn., and Polly Sloan of Mount Airy.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Davidson Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Ricky Brown. Entombment at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Ruby Galloway Pennell
TAYLORSVILLE — Ruby Galloway Pennell, 65, 226 Rocky Face Church Road, died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
She was born Oct. 19, 1934, in Pickens, S.C., the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Kinsey Galloway of Rosman and the late Elmer Enis Galloway. She was educated in the Transylvania County Schools.
Mrs. Pennell worked part-time for Hospice of Alexander County after retiring from Clayton Marcus, where she had spent 18 years. She was a member of Rocky Face Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Carroll Chappell.
Survivors include husband Ned Pennell; sons Christopher Barry Chappell of Kannapolis and Jimmy D. Pennell of Wittenburg; daughter Bronwyn Chappell Goodman and Carmen Lynn Chappell, both of Kannapolis, and Glenda Chappell Bingle of Pisgah Forest; brothers Wallace Galloway of Brevard and Robert, Paul and Carl Galloway, all of Rosman; sisters Reba Morgan and Clara Morgan, both of Rosman; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. today, Rocky Face Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ronald Brookshire and the Rev. Buster Treadaway. Burial, church cemetery.

Marlan 'Dawn' Russell
NEW LONDON — Marlan
"Dawn" Gossage Russell, 62, 36415 Petal Road, died Friday (Sept. 29) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Born Sept. 28, 1938, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Marian Francis and Vernon Clay Gossage. Mrs. Russell was a seamstress at Perfect Fit Industries.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Ray Russell.
Survivors include daughters Robin Honeycutt of Albemarle and Cheryl Lineweaver of Winchester, Va.; sons Robert
"Bobby" McKessor of Albemarle and Jamie McKessor of the home; brother Dale Clay Gossage of Jacksonville; and 12 grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle.
Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
James W. Snider
James W. Snider, 53, Columbus, Ga., died Sept. 18 at Fountain City Nursing Home in Columbus. He was a former resident of Salisbury.
Born in Charleston, S.C., on Nov. 12, 1946, he was the son of Cookie Snider of Columbus, Ga., and the late J.W. Snider. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include sister Silvia Edge of Columbus, Ga., and daughters Jennifer Snider of Clemson, S.C., and Shea Snider of Salisbury.
Services were held Sept. 21. A memorial service will be held Oct. 8, a Sunday, at Milford Hills Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Allen.
