Born June 12, 1930, in Chesterfield, S.C., Mrs.
Blakeney, a daughter of the late William and Mary Kirkland, attended Dunbar High
School.
Retired from Hill Top Living Center, Lexington,
she was overseer of A Wall of Fire Ministry, Salisbury, for over 30 years.
Survivors include husband Edward Lee Blakeney;
stepson Bobby Miller, Pittsburgh, Pa.; daughter Shelia B. McClain, Salisbury;
two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Stewart Crisp, 85, 715 W. Ryder Ave., who died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000)at

Born July 15, 1915, in Cleveland County, Mrs.
Crisp was a daughter of the late Quince and Frances Malisa Bolick Stewart. She
was educated in the Cleveland County schools and had retired from China Grove
Cotton Mills after 40 years.
She was a lifelong member of South China Grove
Baptist Church, where she was active in all phases. She was also active in the
community.
Her husband, James Kelly Crisp, died Oct. 12,
1977.
Survivors include daughters Velma C. Trexler,
Spartanburg, S.C., Joyce C. Michael and Lou C.Kimball, both of China Grove, and
Frances C. Allen, Pacolet, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Born April 21, 1931, in Stanly County, Mr.
Faulkner, a son of the late Glady Glen and Ruth Lee Bailey Faulkner, was a
graduate of Endy school. Retired, he was a self-employed bricklayer and roofer.

Born June 14, 1911, in Elberton, Ga., Mrs.
Henderson, a daughter of the late James Asbury and Annie Hutto Edwards. Retired,
she was an inspector for a garment manufacturer in Elberton, Ga.
She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and a
former member of Francis Asbury Methodist Church, Elberton, Ga.
Her husband, James Edward Henderson, died July 1,
1984.

Gilbert Berndt Nelson
MOORESVILLE — Gilbert Berndt Nelson, 69,
Mooresville, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical
Center.
Born Dec. 1, 1930, in Summerville, Mass., Mr.
Nelson was a son of the late Julius Berndt and Martha Fadden Nelson. He retired
as an industrial engineer in 1984 from Burlington Industries after 15 years. He
also retired as a chief master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, having served
for 21 years.
He worked with The Little Theatre and was a
member of the Elks Lodge, Toastmasters and Mooresville Masonic Lodge 496.
Survivors include wife Ann Harris Nelson, whom he
married April 7, 1951; daughter Jackie N. Sigmon, Sherrills Ford; sons Gary B.,
Roger H. and Christopher S. Nelson, all of Mooresville; six grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.

Born Nov. 20, 1930, in Mecklenburg County, Mrs.
Nesbit, a daughter of the late Roy and Ella Mae Canipe Perrell, was educated in
the Mecklenburg County schools. A Baptist, she retired from Fiber Industries,
now KoSa.
Survivors include husband James Curtis Nesbit;
sons Wade Nelson Nesbit, Concord, and James Michael Nesbit, Salisbury; daughter

Rowan Regional Medical center after a period of declining health.
Born Dec. 24, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Owen, a
daughter of the late David William and Catherine Cope Miller, was educated in
the Rowan County schools and Catawba College. A secretary, she had worked for
the Rowan County schools, Stanback Co., Bamby Bakery and Shaw Transfer Co.
She was an active member of Haven Lutheran
Church, WELCA, Margaret Hartman Circle and Walt Wagoner Sunday school class. She
had also taught Sunday school and weekday church school. She was a member of the
Homemaker’s Extension Club.
Her husband, William A. Owen Jr., died Jan. 15,
1993.

Born April 1, 1908, in Stanly County, Mrs.
Plowman was a daughter of the late Israel and Sarah Catherine Hatley Furr. She
was a homemaker and a member of Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church.
Her husband, the Rev. K.L. Plowman, and a son,
Lloyd Plowman, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons Ray Plowman, Mount

RICHFIELD — Jennie Basinger Polizzi, 72,
Richfield, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital,
Albemarle.
Born Oct. 4, 1927, in Stanly County, Mrs. Polizzi,
a daughter of the late Walter and Iris Culp Basinger, was a home health care
aide. She was a member of Luther’s Lutheran Church.
Her husband, John Polizzi, died July 31, 1983.
Survivors include daughter Lydia P. Vesce,
Wanaque, N.J.; brother Emanuel Basinger, Richfield; sisters Stella B. Kirk,

Harris was a daughter of the late Nellie Moore and Charlie Parks. She was a

Far Rockaway, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie
Marsh Harris.

Son of the late Will and Lillian Woods Lockhart,

conventions. He had pastored three churches, including Fairview Heights Baptist

Martin was a son of the late Jesse Napoleon and Elizabeth Garrett Martin. He was
a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from Consolidated Freight in
1998.
He was a member of the Consolidated Freightways
Retiree Association, Derita Masonic Lodge 715 and past patron of the Derita
Order of the Eastern Star.
