A Salisbury Police officer responding to a call Tuesday collided with another vehicle, causing over $20,000 in damage.
Officer J.M. Robertson, 22, was traveling 45 mph down Statesville Boulevard toward West Innes Street when he neared the intersection of Brenner Avenue.
Another vehicle, driven by JoyThomas, 43, 111 Maupin Ave., approached the same intersection from Brenner Avenue.
According to the crash report, Thomas had a green light and the officer had a red light.
Thomas told investigating sergeant Alan Armour “she didn’t hear a siren and never saw the vehicle she collided with.”
As a result of the collision, the patrol car spun around counterclockwise and Thomas’ car was pushed into the westbound lane of Statesville Boulevard and struck two other cars.
The report indicated the officer was initially traveling 45 mph but had slowed to the posted speed of 35 mph when the collision occurred.
Thomas and her 11-year-old daughter were taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center. Her daughter, Danielle, has been treated and released and Joy Thomas was listed in good condition this morning.
“The investigation is continuing and the city risk management officer will be looking into it as well to determine if there is negligence,” Deputy Chief Mark Wilhelm said this morning.
Wilhelm was not sure exactly how long Robertson has been on the force but did say “he is a fairly new officer with the department.”
No charges will be filed.
