Susie Branch

Susie Branch, 78, Salisbury, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at her home.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Nadyne Waters Burris

NORWOOD — Nadyne Waters Burris, 80, 125 Bennett St., died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at Stanly Manor, Albemarle.

Born Feb. 13, 1920, in Tattnall County,Ga., Mrs. Burris was the daughter of the late Robert Richard and Lanie Kicklighter Waters. Retired from Collins &Aikman, Albemarle, she was a member of Norwood First Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Wade Ezekiel Burris, died Aug. 28, 1995.

Survivors include daughters Cathy Burris Smith, Norwood, and Susan Hutchens, Nashville, Tenn.; sons Randall Burris, Granite Quarry, and Stephen D. Burris, Albemarle; sisters Inez “Sug” Collins, Philadelphia,Pa., and Grovia “Pete” McQuaig, Blackshear,Ga.; brother Winton Waters, Glennville,Ga.; and 10 grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Roland S. Banks.The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, Norview Gardens.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Edward Funeral Home.

 

Lester Eugene Frye

MOCKSVILLE — Lester Eugene Frye, 90, of U.S. Highway 601 South, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at his home.

Born March 1, 1910, in Yadkin County, Mr. Frye was a son of the late John Lewis and Rhoda Potts Frye. He retired from Burlington Mills.

His wife of 64 years, Naomi C. Frye, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons John L. and CalvinE. Frye, both of Mocksville, Robert L. Frye, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Roger D. Frye, Rockwell; daughters Nellie F. Couch, Annie F. Call, Betty F. Trivette, Ruth F. Smith, Sue F. Cauble, Linda F. Gaither and Bonnie F. Lambert, all of Mocksville; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 5 p.m. Wednesday, Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jim Gryder and Kyle Swicegood. Burial, Calvary Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 3-5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials: Calvary Baptist Church,Cemetery Fund, 1663 U.S. Highway 601 S., Mocksville, N.C. 27028; or donor’s choice.

 

Thomas Alfred Gaines

GRANITE QUARRY — No services will be held for Thomas Alfred Gaines, 66, 955 White Rock Ave., who died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury, after several weeks of illness.

Born Jan. 8, 1934, in Statesville, Mr. Gaines, a son of the late Lawrence A. and Mattie Jones Gaines, was a graduate of J.C. price High School, Salisbury.

A veteran of the Korean War, he retired from the U.S. Navy and the VA Medical Center in Salisbury. He was a member of J.C. Price American Legion Post 107 and a participant of the J.C. Price High School Alumni.

Survivors include stepmother Mary Bates Gaines, Salisbury; foster son Larry Gaines, Granite Quarry; brother Alphonso Daniels, Philadelphia, Pa.; and sister Glenna M. Hinton, East Orange,N.J.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Mary Hope Hackett

Services will be held at a later date for Mary Hope Hackett, 84, Salisbury, who died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks after a period of declining health.

Born Feb. 12, 1916, in St. Antony, Iowa, Miss Hackett was a daughter of the late HughThomas and Minnie Boger Hackett. She was a graduate of Liscomb High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Iowa. Retired, she was an anesthetist for Mercy Hospital, Marshalltown, Iowa.

She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and belonged to several groups with Spencer Presbyterian Church, Spencer.

A sister is among her survivors.

Services: A memorial mass of resurrection will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at a later date. Burial at Union Lutheran Church cemetery.

Frank O. Hooper

KANNAPOLIS — Frank O. Hooper, 78, 2413 Earley Circle, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Della Correll Morse

MOORESVILLE — Della Correll Morse, 96, Mooresville, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) at Genesis ElderCare, Mooresville.

Mrs. Morse was bornSept. 27, 1903, in Woodleaf. She had retired from the textile industry.

A member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, she was in the Women’s Society and a recipient of the Life Membership pin. She also was a counselor of the youth and a Sunday school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Fred” Morse; son JohnnyMorse; and a grandson.

Survivors include son Basil Morse, Oviedo, Fla.; daughter Lenora Rock, Concord; sister Sammie Driver, Charlottesville, Va.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Broad Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Macdonald. Burial, Lexington City Cemetery, Lexington.

Visitation: 1 p.m. today in the church’s Covenant classroom.

Curtis Lee Ramsey

LAURINBURG — Curtis Lee Ramsey, 81, 1220 Charles Drive, father of Janet Eury of Salisbury, N.C., died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) at his home.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First United Methodist Church. Burial, Hillside Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Opal H. Raymer

LEXINGTON — Opal Burton Huston Raymer, 84, 1526 New Cut Road, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at Centerclair Inc.

Born June 23, 1916, in Nicholasville, Ky., Mrs. Raymer was a daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Wills Huston. She was a homemaker and member of Epworth United Church of Christ, Lexington, Ky.

Survivors include husband Paul R. Raymer; and brother John Huston, Lexington, Ky.

Services: Memorial, 4 p.m. Wednesday, Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mark Gray.

 

Lorraine Mize Stilwell

The funeral will be Wednesday for Lorraine Mize Stilwell, 83, Salisbury, who died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) at Autumn Care of Mocksville after several years of declining health.

Born Sept. 30, 1916, in Danville, Va., Mrs. Stilwell, a daughter of the late John R. and Alice McDaniel Mize, was educated in the Salisbury City schools. She was formerly employed with Cannon Mills.

A lifelong member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, she was active in church work as long as her health permitted. She was a member of Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFWPost 3006 Ladies Auxiliary.

Her husband, Everett Ray Stilwell, died June 18, 1980.

Survivors include brothers Henry C. Mize, Salisbury, and Ernest Mize, Charlotte; and sister Dorothy Anderson, Tocoma, Wash.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Mark Lowman and the Rev.Tommy Conder.

Visitation: 12:45-1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of brother Henry C. Mize, 1231 Statesville Blvd.

Memorials: Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 500 Park Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144.
