KANNAPOLIS — West Avenue was awash in watercolors.
About a dozen local artists took part, and hundreds browsed and bought their works in Kannapolis’ first Art Festival in the Village on Saturday.
Painters of the oil and watercolor varieties, an artist who did architectural renderings of local buildings and a Cannon Village potter set up booths on the closed-off street.
Visitors to the village got to see the potter perform Raku, a form of firing pottery that originated in China in the 14th century.
Local restaurants offered a variety of food to accompany the art work.
Between 500 and 700 people attended the festival, which lasted from 6 to 10 p.m., including the crowds who browsed after leaving shows at the Gem Theater.
A second festival is planned for Oct. 21 to coincide with the Mill Village Tour of Homes and a piano concert at the Gem.
