Terry Ray Alexander

CONCORD — Terry Ray Alexander, 41, Concord, died Thursday (Sept. 7, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Odell Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Todd Marlow, pastor. The body will be cremated.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Sunday, at the church.

Memorials: Odell Baptist Church, 6320 Davidson Highway, Concord, N.C. 28027.

Evergreen Cremation Services, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Quinton Harvey Burris

ALBEMARLE — Quinton Harvey Burris, 60, 32146 Highway 740, died Friday (Sept. 8, 2000) at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born July 22, 1940, in Badin, Mr. Burris was a son of Faith Lee Rinehart Burris, Albemarle, and the late Quinton Harvey Burris. He was employed with Collins &Aikman and with the city of Albemarle as a maintenance worker.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include brothers David Burris, Albemarle, and Jim Burris, Atlanta; and sister Martha Burris Kepley, Albemarle.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. Robert Romanello. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home.

 

Mildred Jones Casper

GOLD HILL — Mildred Lucille Jones Casper, 71, Gold Hill, died Saturday (Sept. 9, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Dorothy Adcock Chapman

KANNAPOLIS — Dorothy Lee Adcock Chapman, 76, 1211 Laura Ave., died Friday (Sept. 8, 2000) at her residence after four years of declining health.

Born Dec. 27, 1923, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Chapman was a daughter of the late Dora Helms and Jesse Lee Adcock. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she had retired from Linn Mill as a spinner. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.

Her husband, Melvin “Mutt” Chapman, died March 6, 1984.

Survivors include sons Melvin Doug Chapman and Darryl Craig Chapman, both of Kannapolis, and Richard E. Chapman, Salisbury; daughters Phyliss Gibson, Kannapolis, and Geraldine Christy, China Grove; brother Ralph Adcock, Hickory; sister Lois Davis, John’s Island, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services:4 p.m. Monday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home-Landis, conducted by the Rev. Sherman Branch Jr. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home.

Memorials:Hospice of Cabarrus County, 1060 Diploma Place S.W., Concord, N.C. 28027.

 

Brenda Fay Foreman

KANNAPOLIS — Brenda Fay Foreman, 45, 2403 McGill St., died Friday (Sept. 8, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born July 15, 1955, in La Plata, Md., she was a daughter of Claude Junior DePew, Bunnell, Fla. and Kay Frances Willett, Kannapolis. She was employed with Crown Convenience Store, Concord.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include daughter Melanee Cox, Kannapolis; sons William “Billy” Eric Foreman Jr. and Gerald “Jerry” Ellis Foreman, both of Port Tobacco, Md.; sister Elesia Ferguson, Las Vegas; brothers Randy DePew and Tony DePew, both of Waldorf, Md., and Clarence Hale; and one grandchild.

Services: Memorial, 7 p.m. Monday, amphitheater at Dan Nicholas Park, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Andrea Redard.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Harold Ray Payne

CHINA GROVE — Harold Ray Payne, 72, 94 Central Ave., died Friday (Sept. 8, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Nov. 19, 1927, in Gaston County, Mr. Payne was a son of the late Maude Lee Cloninger and Bynum Oscar Payne. Educated in the Kannapolis schools, he was a maintenance worker at Dixie Yarns. He was a member of South China Grove Baptist Church.

His wife, Olyve Hauss Payne, died April 12, 1993.

Mr. Payne is survived by a brother, Charles Payne, Kannapolis.

Services:11 a.m. Monday, mausoleum at West Lawn Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Derald Adams.

Visitation:7-9 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove.

Nelle A. Simpson

Nelle A. Simpson, 92, Salisbury, died Friday (Sept. 8, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury after three weeks of serious illness.

Born Jan. 4, 1908, in Guilford County, she was a daughter of the late Meta Howerton and Thomas Page Simpson. Educated in the Guilford County and Salisbury schools, she was a 1925 graduate of Boyden High School. She also graduated from Salisbury Business School.

A bookkeeper for Nehi Bottling Co. in her early years, she was later a retail buyer for Oestreicher Clothing Store for 32 years before retiring.

She was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, where she taught the Homemakers Sunday School Class for a number of years. A leader in forming the Young at Hearts group, she was a member of the church choir and superintendent of the primary department.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Mark Anders, pastor of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times the family will at the home of a niece, Mary Ruth Spry.

Memorials: Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, 817 S. Main St., Salisbury, N.C. 28144.

 

Ruth Cline Hopkins

GOLD HILL — Ruth Cline Hopkins, 70, Gold Hill, died Saturday (Sept. 9, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
