Rose Carpenter Almond
NEW LONDON —Rose Ann Carpenter Almond, 90, 28597 Austin Road, died Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2000)at Stanly Manor, Albemarle.
BornDec. 11, 1909, in Aqua-dale, Mrs. Almond, a daughter of the late Rheuben Henry and Ada Ann Bryant Carpenter, was a retired homemaker. She was a member of Friendship United Meth-odist Church, Albemarle.
Her husband, Josie Clarence Almond, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters Libby Ruth Almond Morrison, Mount Pleasant, Jo Ann Almond Miller, New London, and Janice Almond Hudson, Belmont; sisters Plina Carpenter Howard and Ruby Carpenter Pennington, both of Albemarle, and Mary Neil Carpenter Poplin, Matthews; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Friendship United Methodist Church, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. Michael Harrill, the Rev. John Bigelow and the Rev. Mark Denton. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Jo Ann Almond Miller, 28708 Austin Road.

Faye Stirewalt Andrew
FAITH — The funeral will be Friday for Faye Stirewalt Andrew, 88, formerly of Faith, who died Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2000) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury after a year of declining health.
Born Oct. 25, 1911, in Rowan County, Mrs. Andrew was a daughter of the late William Bickley and Margaret Bame Stirewalt. She was a graduate of Farm Life School, China Grove, and attended Catawba College, Salisbury.
A homemaker, she assisted her her late husband, Robert Mark “Bob” Andrew, in the operation of R.M. Andrew Candy Co. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Granite Quarry, and the Sadie Lyerly Bible class.
Her husband died Aug. 20, 1985.
Survivors include daughter Bitsy Andrew Dupree, Faith; and two grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Shiloh United Methodist Church, Granite Quarry, conducted by Dr. Kay Gottula. Burial, Faith Lutheran Church cemetery, Faith.

Catherine L. Brotherton, 59, 211 Ridge Ave, No. 365, died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Wilma Efird Burleson
ALBEMARLE — Wilma Efird Burleson, 79, 701 N. Pine St., Foley, Ala., formerly of Albemarle, died Monday (Sept. 4, 2000) at Mercy Medical Hospital.
BornJune 15, 1921, in Mount Pleasant, Mrs. Burleson was a daughter of the late Jason and Ella Burris Efird. A homemaker, she was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.
Her husband,William Haulie Shue, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Patsy S. Dyer, Foley, Ala.; stepdaughter Linda Jackson, Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters Fanny Almond, Gold Hill, and Aileen Huskey, Charlotte; brothers Wayne Efird,Locust, Gene Efird, Stanfield, and Getus Efird, Bartow, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Thaxton DeWalt
MOCKSVILLE —The funeral will be Friday for EvelynThaxton DeWalt, 74, formerly of Holman Road, who died Monday (Sept. 4, 2000) at Winston-Salem Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
Born Jan. 6, 1926, in Roanoke, Va., Mrs. DeWalt, a daughter of the late Exander and Alice Price Thaxton, was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church, Reidsville.
Her husband, Bennie Lee “Amos” DeWalt, died May 9, 1998.
Survivors include sons James, Floyd and Kenneth DeWalt, all of Harmony, Donnell DeWalt, Stoneville, and Alex DeWalt, Salisbury; daughters Edith Harris, Salisbury, Mattie Johnson, Yadkinville, and Louise and Mona Lisa DeWalt, both of Mocksville; brother James Thaxton, Washington, D.C.; 28 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS — Lena Coleman Green, 88, 600 Dixon Ave., died Thursday (Sept. 7, 2000) at her home.

Shirley Nichols Quick
The funeral will be Saturday for Shirley Nichols Quick, 53, Camden, N.J., formerly of Salisbury, who died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000) at Virtua West Jersey Hospital, Camden, N.J., after several years of declining health.
Born Jan. 10, 1947, in Salisbury, Mrs. Quick, a daughter of the late Clifford and Zona Bell Nichols, was educated in the Salisbury schools. She was formerly employed as a nurse at Marwood Nursing Home,Philadelphia, and retired in 1999 from the food department of the Salvation Army Meals on Wheels in Camden, N.J.
Mrs. Quick was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Lindenwald, N.J.
Survivors include husband of 26 years Ernest Quick; son Artis Nichols, Camden, N.J.; stepson Calvin Quick; daughter La-Tisha Quick, Camden, N.J.; stepdaughters Darlene Day, Sheralyn Green, Sarahlyn Williams and Maureen Quick; brothers Vernie Clement and Marvin C. Nichols, both of Salisbury, and Clifford Allen Nichols, Badin; sisters Linda Hogan and Brenda Chunn, both of Salisbury, and Diane Chunn, Mocksville; and 10 grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, New Bethel Baptist Church, Mocks-ville, conducted by the Rev. Thomas White Jr., pastor, and El-Veta Westcott. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery, Salisbury.
Visitation: The body may be viewed at Mitchell &Fair Funeral Service, Salisbury, from 12-8 p.m. Friday, and 12-1 p.m. Saturday, at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of sister Diane Chunn, 585 Boxwood Church Road, Mocksville.

Nolan Hardin Safrit
KANNAPOLIS —The funeral will be Friday for Nolan Hardin Safrit, 77, 511 Spring Garden Ave., who died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.
Born Sept. 20, 1922, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Safrit was a son of the late Henry Wakefield and Cora Kyles Safrit. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
A member of Earle Street Church of God, he retired in 1975 fromCannon Mills Co.
Survivors include wife Christine Farrell Safrit; sons William Hardin Safrit, Stanley, James Calvin Safrit, Concord, and Timothy Wayne Safrit, Kannapolis; daughters Kay Frances Hardy and Doris Dudley Smith, both of Concord, and Mary Alice Huneycutt, Oakboro; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Martha Sherrill
WOODLEAF — Martha Gunter Moore “Mama Doll” Sherrill, 89, Woodleaf, died Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.
Born April 10, 1911, in Madison County, Mrs. Sherrill was a daughter of the late William Riley and Lillie Loretta Thomas Gunter. Educated in the Madison County schools, she worked as a caregiver. She was a member of Needmore Road Baptist Church and the Adult Women’s Bible class.
Her first husband, William Jasper Moore, died Aug. 16, 1943; her second husband, Gibson McLloyd Sherrill, died May 30, 1951; a son and daughter died in 1945.
Survivors include son BenHarvey Moore, Woodleaf; daughters Bertha Mae Moore Upright and Mary Sue Moore Leonard, both of Salisbury; brother Samson Gunter, Cooleemee; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Needmore Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Howard Wagoner. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Elnora Swinson Sifford
ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Friday for Elnora Swinson Sifford, 79, formerly of 5103 Phaniels Church Road, who died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at Transitional Health Care Service,Kannapolis.
Born May 17, 1921, in Stanly County, Mrs. Sifford, a daughter of the late Lee and Gordy Swinson, was educated in the Stanly County schools. She retired fromCannon Mills and was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Gilmer Lewis Sifford, died Aug. 10, 1998.
Survivors include son Wayne Sifford, Rockwell; brothers Roy Swinson, Holden Beach, and Duby Swinson, Greensboro; sisters Bill Barbee, Kannapolis, Beulah Stallings, Huntersville, Ethel Orr, Salisbury, Pete Nance, Derita, and Betty Hill, Lexington; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
