ALBEMARLE — Arnold Lee Boger, 75, 16328 St.
Martin Road, died Monday (Sept. 4, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born July 7, 1925, in Stanly County, Mr. Boger
was a son of the late William M. and Omer Cruse Boger. He retired as the
owner/operator of 52 Food Market and Albemarle Meat Center and was presently
employed by Corner Super Market.
He was a member of First Street United Methodist
Church. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include wife Jean Pennell Boger; sons
Mike Boger, Albemarle, and Jerry Boger, Oakboro; daughter Tammy Deese,
Albemarle; brothers Jack Boger, Matthews, and William Boger, New London; sisters
Helen Wagoner, New London, and Mildred Barringer, Lynchburg, Va.; and five

after eight months of illness.
Born June 26, 1914, in Mecklenburg County, Mr.
Corl retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 2 spinning department, Concord. He served
in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Lane Street Baptist
Church, Kannapolis.

MOCKSVILLE — Burton Atlee Hedrick, 82, Duke
Whittaker Road, died Monday (Sept. 4, 2000) at his home.
Born Dec. 27, 1917, in Wevaco, W.Va., Mr. Hedrick
was a son of the late Clennie B. and Tressie Mae Smith Hedrick. He retired after
40 years from Gravely Tractor and was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church.
His wife, Bertye Marie McDonald Hedrick, died in
June 2000, and a daughter, Nancy Griffith, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons Burton A. Hedrick Jr.,
Wilmington, and Otis and Larry Hedrick, both of Mocksville; daughters Virginia
Carol Sampson, Loretta Smith and Stella and Connie Hedrick, all of Mocksville,

SPENCER —Virginia Lanning Hunnicutt, 80, died
Monday (Sept. 4, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Jan. 28, 1920, in Rowan County, Mrs.
Hunnicutt, a daughter of the late Phillip Early and Lillian Ball Lanning, was a
graduate of Spencer High School. She had retired from Norman’s of Salisbury.
She was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church, the
Hocutt Sunday School Class and the WOA. She was also a member of Eastern Star
Chapter 31 of Spencer.
Survivors include husband Boyd B. “B.B.”Hunnicutt;
daughters Joyce Lemly, Spencer, and Becky McCall, Salisbury; sisters Vera
Parrish, Salisbury, and Louise Hawley, Toledo,Ohio; four grandchildren; and four

A Davie County native, Mrs. Hunter was a daughter
of the late John and Clorena Scott. She retired from the Davie County School
System and was a member of Mainville AMEZion Church.

Born July 28, 1920, in Glendale Springs, Mr.
Miller, a son of the late Ron H. and Laura Bell Miller, retired from a paving
company. He was a member of West Park Baptist Church.

ADVANCE —Pauline Barnhardt Carter Shank, 79,
Indian Hills Road, died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at her home.
Born Sept. 26, 1920, in Davie County, Mrs. Shank
was a daughter of the late J.C. and Bessie Hendrix Barnhardt. She was a 1938
graduate of Shady Grove High School and also graduated from Forsyth Tech as a
licensed practical nurse.
She had retired from Davie County Hospital and
had been active with CAP. A lifelong member of Fork Baptist Church, she was
active as church secretary and had perfect attendance in Sunday school for 38
years.
Her first husband, Clarence Ray Carter, died Jan.
6, 1975, and her second husband, Lloyd Dewitt Shank, died Feb. 1, 1997.
Survivors include sons Leon, Kenneth and Paul E.
Carter, all of Advance; daughter Linda C. Howard, Mocksville; sister Wilma
Smith, Mocksville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Brenda Challis Smith, 52, 325 Skysail Road, died
Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem.
Born May 26, 1948, in Norton, Va., Mrs. Smith, a
daughter of Edith Stidham Challis, Salisbury, and the late John R. Challis, was
a graduate of North Rowan High School, Spencer. She received a bachelor of arts
degree in psychology from Catawba College and earned her masters in social work
from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She served various positions with the Rowan
County Department of Social Services, where she had retired after 20 years. She
was a former president of North Carolina Social Services Association and past
president of North Rowan Parent Teacher Association.
She was a member of Trading Ford Baptist Church,
where she was active in teaching Sunday school, directing and assisting with
vacation Bible school and as a member of the Annie Queen Circle and Choir.

CLEVELAND — Edward “Chico” Alonzo Tabor,
64, 13040 Statesville Blvd., died Sunday (Sept. 3, 2000) at Rowan Regional
Medical Center, Salisbury, after an extended illness.
Born May 15, 1936, in Iredell County, Mr. Tabor,
a son of the late Charlie Holsey and Alice Young Tabor, was educated in the
Iredell County schools. He was a resident of Washington, D.C., for 41 years and
worked for the United States Department of Commerce for 32 years. He was
protocol of the Motor Vehicle Poole.
After returning to North Carolina, he owned and
operated Safety Cab No. 16 in Salisbury. He was a member of Highland Acres
Church of Christ.
Survivors include wife Shirley Morrison Tabor;
sons Edward A. Tabor Jr., Waldolf, Md., and Carl Harell, Fort Washington, Md.;
daughters Carol Dunlap, Taylorsville, Robin Summers, Winston-Salem, and Michele

FAITH — Joan Holshouser Wilhelm, 70, Faith,
died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born May 9, 1930, in Rowan County, Mrs. Wilhelm,
a daughter of the late Homer A. “Hootsie” and Ferne Robertson Holshouser,
was a 1948 graduate of Granite Quarry High School. She retired in 1999 after 25
years from Norandal, where she was an insurance and retirement benefits clerk.
Mrs. Wilhelm was a member of Faith Baptist Church
and had been a member of Faith American Legion Auxiliary Post 327 for 50 years
and a past president. She was also a member of La Societe De Femmes.
Survivors include husband Bill Wilhelm, whom she
married Nov. 1, 1952; son George A. Wilhelm, Faith; daughter Gloria Ann Wilhelm,
Faith; brother Gray Holshouser, Salisbury; sister Madge H. Sifford, Rockwell;
and two grandchildren.

James Edmon ‘Jim’ Wilson
CLEVELAND — The funeral will be Thursday for
James Edmon “Jim” Wilson, 93, Cleveland, who died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at
his home.
Born June 28, 1907, in IredellCounty, Mr. Wilson
was a son of the late Walter Jackson and Columbia York Wilson. He was educated
in the Iredell County schools and was a retired farmer.
His wife, Hazel Correll Wilson, died Jan. 29,
1969, and a son, Flake Edgar Wilson, died May 20, 1986.
Survivors include daughter Colleen W. Belk,
Cleveland; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
