Mary Kluttz Connelly
MOUNT ULLA —Mary Helen Kluttz Connelly, 87,
died Monday (Sept. 4, 2000) at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation of
Rowan after three years of declining health and six months of serious illness.
Born March 24, 1913, in Rowan County, Mrs.
Connelly was a daughter of the late Joseph Brunner and Blanche Lippard Kluttz.
Educated in the Mount Ulla schools, she was a lifelong member of St. Luke’s
Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker and a seamstress.
Survivors include husband Vance B.Connelly, whom
she married Jan. 22, 1938; sons Robert C. Connelly, Mount Ulla, Russell E.
Connelly, Bonita, Calif., and the Rev. William V. Connelly, Oakland (Red House),
Md.; daughter Margaret C. Faust, Cleveland, and Amy C. Padgett, Salisbury;
sister Faye Graham, Cleveland; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS — Daniel Kevin Mattingly, 49, 2012
Angela Lane, died Sunday (Sept. 3, 2000) at his home.
Born Aug. 23, 1951, in Jeffersonville, Ind., Mr.
Mattingly was a son of the late Ralph D. and Mildred Fowler Mattingly. He served
with the U.S. Army in Vietnam and had previously been employed by Lincoln Log
Homes.
Survivors include wife Pauline Young Mattingly;
daughter Crystal Mattingly Boyd, of the home; son Nicholas Mattingly,
Sharpsburg, Ga.; brother Ralph T. Mattingly, Hogansville, Ga.; and two
grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 10 this morning at
Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bobby Sutherland officiated.
Callie M. Crisco McIntosh
ALBEMARLE — Callie McIntyre Crisco McIntosh,
92, 4818 Tilly Mill Road, Doraville,Ga., formerly of Albemarle, died Sunday
(Sept. 3, 2000) at Muskogee Manor Nursing Home, Columbus, Ga.
Born May 18, 1908, in Stanly County, Mrs.
McIntosh was a daughter of the late Watt and Lilly Mae Davis McIntyre. A
clothing manufacturer, she owned and operated Callies Dress Shop, Albemarle,
Charlotte, Columbia, S.C., and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Her husband, Claude Victor Crisco, preceded her
in death.
Survivors include husband Robert M. McIntosh,
Salisbury; sons Ned Crisco, Columbus, Ga., and Terrell Crisco, Albemarle;
daughter Claudine Hollingsworth, Atlanta; sisters Sadie Taylor, Asheboro, and
Glennie Herrin Whitley, Raleigh; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

ALBEMARLE — Oleeta Henson Moore, 74, 641 N.

Born Feb. 5, 1926, in Gilmer, Ga., Mrs. Moore was
a daughter of the late Will and Laura Burrell Henson. Office manager for Burrell
Bakery for 27 years, she was a finance officer for the Stanly County Board of
Education and a member of First Baptist Church.

ALBEMARLE — Bennie McKinley “Jack”Morton,
76, 31946-B Old Herlocker Road, died Sunday (Sept. 3, 2000) at Stanly Memorial
Hospital.
Born Aug. 7, 1924, in Stanly County, Mr. Morton
was a son of the late Robert McKinley and Ada Coble Morton. He had retired from
the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

daughters Carolyn Morton, Sandra Efird and Wanda Hicks, all of Albemarle, and
Paula Daniel, Little River, S.C.; brother Vance Morton, Georgia; sisters Betty

LINWOOD — Mildred Bernice Koontz Snider, 77,
died Monday (Sept. 4, 2000) at LexingtonMemorial Hospital, Lexington.
Born Oct. 27, 1922, in Davidson County, Mrs.
Snider was a daughter of the late Emanuel Whitson and Sarah Elverson Koontz.
Retired from R.W. Norman of Salisbury, she was a member of Smith Grove Baptist
Church.
Her husband, Foy “Fat” Ledford Snider, died
March 12, 1995.
Survivors include daughters Betty Shoaf,
Churchland, and Janie Swing, Cary; brothers Jack and Melvin Koontz, both of
Salisbury, Gary Koontz, Linwood, and Walter Koontz, Welcome; sisters Edna

Nursing Home.
Born April 29, 1911, in Stanly County, Mrs.
Thompson was a daughter of the late Daniel and Rosa Morris Blalock. She had
retired from Collins and Aikman Corp., Albemarle, and was a member of Palestine
United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Bennett Lee Thompson, preceded her
in death.

BADIN — Leroy “Tank”Townsend, 67, 903

Born Aug. 30, 1933, in Stanly County, Mr.
Townsend was a son of the late Jerome and Nora Howell Townsend. He was a
graduate of West Badin High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a
member of McDonald ChapelAMEZion Church.
His wife, Mildred Kirk Townsend, preceded him in
death.

nieces and nephews.

FAITH — The funeral will be Wednesday for
Lester Allen Wiggins, 75, Faith, who died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at his home.
Born March 19, 1925, in Forsyth County, Mr.
Wiggins was a son of the late Burnie H. and Ollie Elizabeth Spaugh Wiggins.
Educated in the Forsyth County schools, he had retired as a bus driver for the
Salisbury transit department.
A member of Faith Lutheran Church and Faith
American Legion Post 327, he helped organize the Legion graveside service team.
He was also a member of the Overseas Masonic Lodge 40 and had received his
50-year pin.
A son, James Allen Wiggins, died Oct. 19, 1987.
Survivors include wife Arline Taylor Wiggins,
whom he married Oct. 18, 1947; son RichardAllen Wiggins, Jacksonville, Fla.;
daughter Susan W. Masten, Granite Quarry; brother William Richard Wiggins,
Sanford, Fla.; sister Bernice Alene Gryner, Winston-Salem; half brother Rabron

Williams, 86, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (Aug. 30, 2000) at Liberty Commons
Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 26, 1914, in Rowan County, Mr. Williams
was a son of the late George H. and Bessie Elizabeth Rainey Williams. He was
educated in the Rowan County schools and had retired fromCannon Mills Swink
plant. He was also a member of the Salvation Army.
His wife, Sadie Mae “Billie” Potts Williams,
died Nov. 2, 1975.
Survivors include son Bob Williams, Las Vegas,
Nev.; sisters Irene W. Johnson, Salisbury, Nora W. Nickols, Spencer, Pearl W.
Coleman,Lexington, and Margie W. Williams, Concord; one granddaughter; and two
