Sue Killian Dellinger

KANNAPOLIS — Sue Killian Dellinger, 85, 1907 Carolina Ave., died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at Concord Nursing Center.

Born March 11, 1915, in Lincoln County, Mrs. Dellinger was a daughter of the late Eph F. Killian and Lily Hayes Killian.

A resident of Kannapolis for most of her life, she was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College. She was retired from the Cannon Mills Plant 1 sewing room, where she served for 45 years. She was a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: daughter, Emily Long, Kannapolis; son, Clyde Dellinger, Concord; brother, E.F. Killian Jr., Denver; and three grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Wes Judy. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Melvin Luther Furr

ALBEMARLE — Melvin Luther Furr, 72, of N.C. Highway 49, New London, died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born March 15, 1928, Mr. Furr was a son of the late Luther D. and Maggie Bell Biles Furr. He was retired from Albemarle Spinning.

A veteran of the U. S. Navy, he served during World War II, and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife, Jane Furr, of the home; son, Dwight Furr, Mount Pleasant; daughters, Vivian Estridge Kelly, Singapore, Melba Furr, Albemarle; brother, Roy I. Burris, Mount Pleasant; sisters, Doris Morgan, Mae Morgan, Sue Morris, all of Richfield, Sarah Carter, Kannapolis, Nell Moucka, Concord, and Marie Cauble, Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Antioch Baptist Church, Richfield, conducted by the Rev. Gene Sides and the Rev. Jason Lee. Burial, church cemetery. Military graveside rites by the Stanly county Disabled American Veterans.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Hartsell Funeral Home,

Betty Jean ‘Jeanie’ Harris

SILER CITY— Betty Jean “Jeanie” Driscoll Harris, 51, of 18 Pine Forest Drive, died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Born Aug. 17, 1949, in Rowan County, Mrs. Harris was a daughter of Betty Driscoll Waddell of Salisbury and the late John Richard Driscoll.

She was a graduate of Boyden High School and Wingate College and retired from the Farm Credit Bureau in Asheboro.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the administrative board.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include: husband, Richard Byrd Harris Jr.; son, Parker Trent Harris, Siler City; stepfather, Robert L. Waddell, Salisbury; brother, Rick Driscoll, Spencer; sister, Diane Wike, Rockwell; stepbrother, Thomas P. Waddell, Downington, Pa.; stepsisters, Carol Arp, Davenport, Iowa, and Beth Waddell, Charlotte.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, First United Methodist Church, Siler City, conducted by the Rev. Joe Casteel. Burial, Chatham Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. today, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Bobby Kay Hedrick

MOORESVILLE — Bobby Kay Hedrick, 68, 197 Mazeppa Road, Mooresville, died Sunday (Sept. 3, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born July 13, 1932, in Catawba County, Mr. Hedrick was a son of the late Marcus Burette and Eula Martin Hedrick.

He was a job superintendent with Barger Construction Co. for 41 years.

Survivors include: wife, Marie Newton Hedrick; sons, Randy Lee Hedrick, Charlotte, and Karl Lynn Hedrick, Mooresville; brothers, Harold Hedrick, Statesville, Jacky Hedrick, Catawba; sisters, Florence Lytton, Salisbury, Kitty Bryant, Syracuse, N.Y., Norma Jean “Deanie” Hedrick, Raleigh; Judi Willis, Catawba; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Vanderburg United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Gerald Davis and the Rev. Derry Barnhardt. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m.Tuesday, Neill Funeral Home.

Henry Lee King

Henry Lee King, 60, Salisbury, died Sunday (Sept. 3, 2000) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

Jim Woodrow Myers

LEXINGTON — James “Jim” Woodrow Myers, 88, Brookstone Retirement Center, formerly of Park Circle, died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at the retirement center.

Born July 24, 1912, in Darlington County, S.C., Mr. Myers was a son of the late Cyrus Myers and Meta Parker Myers. He was retired from Erlanger Mills and was a member of North Lexington Baptist Church.

His wife, Mary Belle Burkhart Myers, died Dec. 3, 1996.

Survivors include: son, James Myers Jr., Lexington; daughters, Mary Frances Crowell, Mocksville, Meta Emma Carter, Lexington, and Ellen Kay Smith, Southmont; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday, North Lexington Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Robert Floyd. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Meta Carter, 203 Maxwell Drive.

Memorials: North Lexington Baptist Church, 201 Mize Road, Lexington, NC 27295.

 

Isiah ‘June’ Tucker

Isiah “June” Tucker Jr., 67, 807 Washington St., East Spencer, died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born Jan. 29, 1932, in East Spencer, Mr. Tucker was a son of the late Lucille Singleton Tucker and Isiah Tucker.

He was a graduate of Dunbar High School and had retired from Frito-Lay.

A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of the J.C. Price American Legion Post 107 and was a former member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include: wife, Paula Mitchell Tucker of the home; sons, Joel Lamont Tucker and Da-Vonta Tucker, both of the home; daughters, Makisha Tucker, Audrey Tucker and Brenda Blackwell, all of Salisbury, Vanity Tucker, of the home, and Izella Tucker, Alexandria, Va.; brother, Wallace “Bubba” Tucker, Alexandria, Va.; sister, Dottie T. Faggart, Greensboro; 10 grandchildren; and 12 grand-children.

Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Albert Carr Williams

KANNAPOLIS — Albert Carr Williams, 64, 2122 Lane St., died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000) as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Born April 5, 1936, in Wayne County, Mr. Williams was a son of the late W.F. and Vivian Carr Williams. He was self-employed as a carpenter.

Mr. Williams attended Lane Street Baptist Church and was a member of the Kannapolis Moose Lodge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

His wife, Betty Daniels Williams, died in July 1999.

Survivors include: brother, W. Frank Williams, Mount Olive; sisters, Joyce Correll, Goldsboro, Sarah Frances Grant, Mount Olive, and Barbara Sasser, Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Tyndall Funeral Chapel, Mount Olive. Burial, Grant’s Chapel Church Cemetery, Seven Springs.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. today, Tyndall Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Sarah Frances Grant, 128 N.C. Hwy. 403, Mount Olive.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Dan Mattingly

KANNAPOLIS — Daniel Kevin Mattingly, 49, 2012 Angela Lane, died Sunday (Sept. 3, 2000) at his home.
